Gogyohka is a poetry form developed by Enta Kusakabe
in Japan and translates literally to "five-line poem."
It is an off-shoot of the tanka form. It has no syllable rules,
and does not usually rhyme. Preferably, each line would be
a separate, usually short, phrase.
days become short
and carry cold promise
the curve of your breast
anchoring my memory
in sunshine
time, that unrepentant thief
steals the roses from my cheeks
leaving wrinkles in their place
my only recourse is
to turn mirrors to the wall.

so hard

in myself
on the edge
of darkness

Unrested mornings
Sometimes want to linger
Maybe spend the day
Under the covers
To read a novel about another life
Spirea stirs
From gusts of wind 10 MPH
Calm, stillness, stirring from down under
Brown thrasher
Hops out, flies
Sun's out
In patches
Dries rain's moisture
Quietly housewife got the lease
Dancing dog
Depth and expanse of river
With raindrops fluctuates
Continuously flows
Steadily drawn
To a never full body
Cerulean above
Fan brushed with fossil, ash, silver and cloud
Zephyr's northwesterly cold
Hemlock seeds and broom sage tassels fly
November surprises
Distended cheek
Like a chipmunk
Filled with acorns
Only 'tis

Gogyohka--A Poetry Form
1. It is short, based on Haiku and Tanka
2. Five lines or sometimes 4 or 6(exceptions)
3. At least one phrase or breath per line
4. No restraints on number of words or syllables
5. Theme unrestricted
Winds stir
Nature's acorn crop
Pines sigh, oaks rustle
Hurricane's outer bands
