Type casting Pirates of Penzance
Lining up those who’ll sing and dance
Some aced the illusion
Others beyond delusion
Laughing so hard I wet my pants

A little light entertainment on another wistful people distancing day...
The Owl and the Puddycat went to sleep
tucked up cosy and warm
Till Little Boy Blue come blasting his horn
causing a raucous storm
The Cat and the Fiddle
both jumped sky high
Mary and her Little Lamb, startled
began to cry
Jack and Jill both tumbled downhill
their pail of water rolled on overspill
Baa, Baa Black Sheep trembled with fear
He guessed it was time for wool being sheared
The Queen of Hearts dropped all her tarts
Twenty four blackbirds bit the crust
they were lucky, weren’t they just
Little Jack Horner, tucking into his pie
bit hard on the thumb he’d mistook for a plumb
screaming “what kind of fool am I"
Yankee Doodle from his pony vaulted
lost the feather he’d put in his cap
as the poor scared pony bolted.

Freeview, satellite and cable TV
So many stations
But none of them free
Now what shall I watch
There’s such a huge choice
Sorry must dash
Must watch the voice
Cartoons and soaps
Documentaries and films
Might watch Ghost
Depends how I feel
Don’t miss a series ever my friends
Rewind it or pause it
And play it again
Comedy classics
And music to please
Some of these videos
Make you happy
At the touch of a button
Your screen flickers on
Hey’ isn’t this TV, so much fun
There are plenty of channels
A variety to watch
How about some sport
But it comes at a cost
Football or cricket, boxing excites
Gymnastics and racing
Are sure to delight

Cheap entertainment
We didn’t need computers
To keep us entertained
We didn’t need no Donkey Kong
We had that Ludo game
We didn’t need no gadgets
To count the steps, we’ve gone
We just had a skipping rope
And the salt and pepper song
We didn’t need no fancy gym
Helping us keep fit
We just had a hoola hoop
A-spinning on our hip
We didn’t need no High-Tec firm
Selling expensive things
We were quite contented
With a yoyo on a string
We didn’t need a mobile phone
Forever on our faces
We’d get out, walk about
And explore some brand-new places
Cerulean stage,
Cumulous actors rehearse:
Performance of clouds.
Sue constantly gobbles her food
Then belches, it sounds rather rude
Next thing she starts farting
Foul stench is departing
From parties folk now Sue exclude
I’m having a party tonight
Sue pleaded to have an invite
I put black charcoal powder
In her portion of chowder
Sue’s buttocks stayed clenched very tight!
Sue purchased some charcoal biscuit
The charcoal really did its bit...
At a dinner party
She’s no longer farty
And chooses where she wants to sit!

Excitement explodes with anticipation today,
Colorful flyers say the circus is coming to town
With animal acts, clowns, and music so gay.
Soon the big top will be going up, a holiday
Only the most disgruntled will wear a frown,
Excitement explodes with anticipation today.
We can hardly wait for sounds of the midway,
Streets come alive with performers renown
With animal acts, clowns, and music so gay.
With the circus comes dreams of running away
It is not a time for anyone to be feeling down,
Excitement explodes with anticipation today.
Inside the tent the band will swing and sway,
Aerial acts, jugglers, and a midget knockdown
With animal acts, clowns, and music so gay.
The barker always takes time to have his say
A lady on an elephant in a lovely satin gown
Excitement explodes with anticipation today,
With animal acts, clowns, and music so gay.

O'er the years my spouse and I have enjoyed Broadway Revues,
And the stars of song and dance on an occasional ocean cruise.
But none will compare to the shows we love the best of all,
Those priceless plays and concerts in the school assembly hall!
We encouraged our little girls in their philharmonic pursuit,
One mastering the clarinet, the other the melodious flute!
We relished each delightful musicale, concert and revue,
Where they proudly performed as their musical confidence grew.
The girls gave us grandkids that have brought us so much joy,
And now we have had their choirs and concerts to enjoy!
(The girls now suffer the din of the squawking clarinet,
Babble of budding actors and the raucous bleat of cornet!)
Our social life was on the skids till great-grandkids arrived.
Thanks to them our entertainment options have been revived!
Lord willing, we'll be privileged to enjoy another generation,
As they perform the arts to complete their cultural education.
Alas, the children's school years have passed so very fleet,
But in that short span they've made our lives more complete!
Tho' the footlights are dimmed and the curtain has been drawn,
Another generation will take the stage and the show will go on!

Entertainment in My Youth
By Franklin Price
revised and reformatted to poetic prose
(an experiment for me)
5/28/2017
Entertainment came quite easy, I could do it for myself. The public library had lots of books, they stored them on the shelf. I could check them out, and from them, could travel anywhere. See the world through reading and never leave my chair.
I could go outside and eat an orange, or I could ride my bike. A safer place it was back then; could go anywhere I liked. Could go across the river, a week-end show to see, a dime spent on a Saturday was admission there for me. Cartoons and several serials; Flash Gordon comes to mind. Still in downtown Cocoa, the building you will find. Movies shown no longer, plays are there for you to go. The State Theater still entertains; so go enjoy the show.
After the show was over, to Goulds old store we went. Such a magic place for kids, some allowance there we spent. Had military equipment and special things galore. If we had been the least bit rich, we may have bought the entire store.
If we were lucky, when we left, to cross to the Island side, the draw bridge would be opening and the tender let us ride. We stood in the middle as the bridge swung half around, blocking the cars, passing the boats to far off places bound.
At night we had a radio; no TV 'til fifty-three. We would gather close and listen to special programs there for me: The Shadow knew, Lone Ranger too, fights on Friday night. The music of the Grand Old Opry made listening just right. We played some games both board and card; the donkey's tail did pin. I was the youngest, not as smart, sometimes they let me win: Monopoly, Checkers, Old Maid, and cards of War. The table's space was not enough so we played them on the floor.
If we needed money there was a jelly factory near. The product made from guavas; the need for them was clear. The trees grew wild, or maybe not ,with buckets we would go; fill them up and take them to the factory for some dough.
Much more entertainment I could tell you without fail. Some things we did there, in the past, may now get days in jail. So I think I'll stop for now and let you imagine all the rest. My childhood life was more than good, it was the very best.
Entertainment comes in every shape and form.
From plays on stage, to theatre co-ops, to movies, these are the norm.
Remembering movies like Mary Poppins to Cleopatra.
Productions crews, make films from theatre, to television soap operas.
Nowadays you rarely see any moral induced movies,
Violence, killing, perversions, all made for audiences they’re trashy.
Us older folks, who went to movies in the sixties rarely saw smut.
Not needed then to show great actors talents, now it’s all we got.
On billboards, coming attractions, you see such a strange diversion.
All it does is show how man is set on screen perversion.
A famous western writer said once, “It has no place in moral society.”
The movies of today show all kinds of social notoriety.
Longing for the good ol’ days, elders wish they’d return.
This is what we crave, a good old fashion western, where a station is burned.
Indians, cowboys, like John Wayne and Gary Cooper, in their prime.
Now perversions, subjected to the way of the land, good movies are not in this time.
A wholesome society, one with a moral compass, is the order of the day.
We should boycott this smut, and make movies the right way.
What a message to our children, rebellion and chaos is the tragedy.
Let me have Gary Grant, Bob Hope, and the golden era of comedy.

The dazzle in lights
A Broadway moment full of entertainment being a sight
Dance numbers to get the audience and TV Viewers in the mood
Dramatics that catch you off guard, but know how to soothe
The Tony Awards has everything to prove
It’s a talent night being on the move
Hand me my Tony Award
But the Tony Awards on Sunday will be a night
For me, my Great Uncle Eubie Blake who composed the music for “SHUFFLE ALONG” is up for a Tony
However, I promise I won’t be long
SHUFFLE ALONG has hit Broadway numerous times, but it was and still is pure acting and dancing that has kept the shuffle in being no rush
But a time in not being silent in a hush
I see in the background plenty of kissing and lots of mush
The cast simply said, “Lets take our time and let the music take us back as we move laid back”
Jazz had a swing and everyone in clubs were doing their thing
Oh Shuffle Along
Jazz with a pizzazz
A wonder being yonder
On June 12, Sunday, watch the Tony Awards on CBS 2
You too will be shuffling along too.
