Carolyn Devonshire

I almost thought she was the one that made
Neil Diamond sings like a confetti parade
You know that sweet Carolyn thing, why not
She has the warmest soul, this sweet griot
This investigator of mysteries, and writer
Of myth and pale anthropological history
This lady, this encourager, this fresh sister
That brings a solace to each swift anxiety
This humanitarian, this dreamer, this friend
I say nothing when I read her poems again
Lest words reduce her to something defined
For words only say correctly that she is kind

And she drives the land from post to post
Bringing care and playing nurse and host
To every prayer balming pain, to each need
That plays her like winds play a reed
And make her sing her gentleness, sweet
And succulent songs, darling of gentleness
God, how your love in human form bleat
With ravishing light, and milky tenderness.

Premium Member - Give Me the Eternity -

The longing for a deep red ruby
creeps like an ivy in my heart
Love me today - love me tomorrow
Sparks sensors from a sensitive heart
          Give me the eternity
Like a lost child you take my hand
Heart demons in angels inner circle
brought me into beautiful golden moonlight
Take me with you ... in perfection ... the divinity
          Hot bodies close together
The silence encourager ... weak breath
A deep red ruby is perfect - a beauty
The eternity - how long is that

Premium Member Ain't No Humble In a Hustlin Heart

Pride is a motivator, a stimulator of scarlet soul
an accelerator to the next glorious goal
generator of newcoming awakening
cultivator out cunning the unkind
cutting away all the doubts and flouts, leaving the babel and rabble behind,
a slayer of beasts and witches,
pulverizer of all that threatens my wishes,

Pride is an educator, a teacher whom need not flatter
or conspire to push passion higher,
a preacher promisin that you can be better than you thought you were,
transformer from the mediocre to a raw reformer
makin my heart the perfect love performer
romanticizer of the love battles that my Lady and I thunder
reinforcer of our durable dreams, encourager for our beautiful hunger,

Pride has weather, moving me to smile at the wind and bear the barbs of error,
an innovator of my instincts, reflector of bleeding color
It compells me to be a competitor, a finisher, and a star runner,
my blessings won't bow to humble hoaxes
my talent cannot tolerate the tamming of tragedies
my courage will not cower with the false virtue of humble hypnotism
ain't no way a honkeytonk humbler gonna wear away my sway,
my faith will not stumble upon the stones of humble wastelands,
I wasn't born to walk with humble eyes,
I'm alive to thrive with a sacred strive,
in pride I hear the voice of my Creator say, be great or die!

Premium Member Introverted Encourager

Introverted
Christian, puzzle-solving, athletic, musician
Who loves his bride, his children, his lineage.
I think love is the key to most locks, joy is attainable, peace is achievable.
I feel blessed to be alive, lucky to be in love, amazed by warmth of friendship.
I fear being trapped, being paralyzed, being insignificant.
I would like to see Paris art museums and 30 MLB stadiums. And grandchildren!
I am a California resident; home of Yosemite, Disneyland, Golden Gate bridge.

Yarns Of A Seafaress

Hemingway's famous "Old Man and the Sea"
Simply couldn't hold a candle to me
I caught Ahab's great white whale
Did some surfing on his tail
Made him jump through hoops 'fore I set him free

In Scotland I gave Nessie a big scare
As with my huge net, the beast I did snare
I held on as Nessie tugged
Then set her free as I shrugged
To tell the truth, Nessie hadn't a prayer

And now I've set my sights on the Kraken
Oh yes, I'm more than a fishing bumpkin
And so for Norway I sail
    To prove women aren't frail
This giant squid is simply a munchkin

This wonderful poem epitomizes Carolyn's love for everything about the sea.
She has so creatively and entertainly regaled us with her delightful writes based on
her own personal sea adventures that have become and will remain classics.
I can picture Carolyn standing on the prow of a boat, her hair streaming in the wind,
as it charges full steam ahead as she seeks further swashbuckling challenges beyond
the horizon. She has been a supporter and encourager to me not only in poetic matters but personal matters as well. I pray that her well of verse will never run dry!

A Tribute To Lyric Man

Dave's poem, "Cheerleader Or Critic"
recently made poem of the week.
So if at times you need an encourager,
this poem's for you, so take a peek.

Lyric Man will always see
the best of you, in your poet's pen.
And when other's put you down,
like him, "Just take it with a grin."

"Why not me," is his motto,
to help lift a poet's soul.
To help another along life's path,
seems to be his goal.

Lyric Man, you are a poet's friend.
Thank you for being mine.
And to all others on the Soup,
you're always so caring and kind.

Denial

Did you feel my dear poor fate
As you denied me the sweet apple
I would break down under its weight
And at me will laugh the people

Did you feel my dear sweet bird
As you did not whistle as expected
I will no more visit your courtyard
And keep off writing feeling neglected

We don't know if tomorrow we will be alive
Still we do such and such plan with all fervour
All along displaying very positive vibe
This is the hope, our evergreen encourager

Denial is a defense of the psychic self
Acquired from many a childhood trauma
To tackle minor failures it does help
Done excessively it may transfer one to 'luna’

It is best to cast away the needless curtain
Make flowers bloom in a garden friendly
Stay honest and impartial always for certain
Denial we won't have to resort to necessarily

Forever Missed

Screaming at the sky at night; staying up until dawn
Wishing I was here with you; can't believe you're gone.
It's like a sharp knife digging deep into my very heart
My will, my joy, my life, my smile is slowly coming apart.
You're here so close to me and yet so far away.
The pain of not being able to reach out to you is growing every day.
You see me and I see you but yet never speaking face to face.
You were my all, my joy, my encourager, my friend, my Grace.
I wish I could be near you; I want to put away all this pain.
I'll love you forever; I want you to know this, but how?
I'll miss you forever; I wish I could be with you now.

My Thoughts

My thoughts,my healer and believer
My thoughts, my salvation-my thoughts
My strength,my way forward
My thoughts, my success my internal life and encourager

My thoughts, my protector-my listener
My thoughts, my comfort zone and happiness
My thoughts, my life-my spirit and soul

My thoughts my forgiver-my love
My own;my dream and peace
I am me in you my forgetter
My pushing and believing

My thoughts myself, I am me in you
I am loved, cherished, respected and found
Am well known my thoughts-my thoughts
I survive in you my thoughts

I laugh, smile and free my thoughts
My thoughts
My thoughts.

Premium Member When I Am Alone Do I Follow God Alone--

WHEN I AM ALONE DO I FOLLOW GOD ALONE--

In the public I may worship
With my fellow Christians
In the public may pay some titles and offerings (you see the envelope)
But in private;
What do I get;
How is my worship
Do I go off into my closet and praise the Lord

May sing in the choir
Ever so loud and anointed, beautiful
But when I’m along do I sing His songs aloud
Maybe a deacon, an usher too
Encourager but have I ever encouraged me too

I just no longer want to just get by;
With a bible in my hand and scriptures memorized
Am I true to my heart and myself?
And I commit alone with just me and Jesus

I am found grand in the public’s eyes
Praising God all the time;
But when I’m alone do I follow Him

Beautiful person I may seem to be
Smiling joyful bountifully
But alone I am troubled
All you see is my shadow
And as I smile looking in
Do I still believe in HIM
My God, Your God Our God
When I’m amidst fellow Christians
Do I serve HIM also when I am alone?
Do I get off work, turn on the TV and watch for hours?
Do I play those games that people play?
Do I get on the phone and backbite?
Do I gorge on food until midnight?
Do I anything and everything but tell the Lord God goodnight?
Do I just do anything good or ungodly?
And when I rise to I say Thank You God for another new day?
Do I pray, do my devotion as I should?

I am found grand in the public’s eyes
Praising God all the time;
But when I’m alone do I follow Him alone
Just as I said when I’m alone do I follow Him alone?
