Best Emphysema Poems
I Love You
Smokers of the world unite
Keep that ciggie burning bright
Nick O’Teen is having fun
Clogging, blackening the lung
Don’t you know that it aint smart
To let that fiend into your heart
There won’t be any looking back
After fatal heart attack
And when the girl that you adore
Says she’ll kiss your lips no more
She’s looking for a smoke free zone
Leaves you standing all alone
When you're just a year from death
Pleading, begging your next breath
Even though you've never seen her
Meet your new friend Emphysema
So smokers of the world unite
Keep that ciggie burning bright
You'll never have a friend so true
When every drag says, I love you
This mixed message was brought to you by
The Devil Himself Hua hua hua hua
Emphysema is like
living underwater,
Surrounded by an ocean
of air,
Which just can't get
where it needs to be
Even if you lie quietly
In your home, your lair
You wake up gasping
As if you ran
Up three flights of stairs
And there are many moments
When you have terrible scares
It's uncurable
It's progressive
It's fatal,
And but a matter of time
you have left
And anybody's guess
Of how many years
you will have lost as a victim
To it's nasty theft
Inhalers, pills,
Nebulizer machines,
You'll do anything to breath
You'll go to any means
Some, like me
Find solace
Only in their sleep,
Others, I suppose,
Only when they weep
But it's the hand
God dealt me
And I accept it
For what it is
And long ago
came to grips
With what I face
in life
And hospital
visits
As familiar as
would be a wife
No one lives forever,
Save Jesus and Dracula,
And I have the advantage
One really quite spectacular
For I have a gauge
A hint of things to come
Makes every joy I taste
More savory than for some.
Hearing the words "touch and go,"
I sink into a quagmire of despair
Slipping and sliding on tears of fear
In a swamp of memories
I've but one brother, one sister
Artie's Covid battle unleashed ills
Pandora's Box opened to pneumonia
COPD and emphysema
Now the reaper knocks upon his door
I pray he does not answer
Separated by a thousand miles
I long to see his smile again
To hear his laugh just one more time
I'd follow hope's long road anywhere
Wrap him in the comfort of prayer
Use my shield of love to protect him
His chances tenuous at best
Anxiety chases dreams away
Lord, let me embrace him once more
Before You carry him home
To All My COPD Friends
Let me share an experience with you
That brought my life better quality
It is a surgery that is fairly new
And with God’s help it saved me
I began to feel my life slipping by
As if there would be no tomorrow
Deep inside I just wanted to cry
And I didn’t want anyone to know
There are so many others suffering too
With this terrible condition besides me
I understand what they are going through
As if your life is surrounded with misery
I actually thought that I was going to die
I was put on 24/7 oxygen and moving slow
I was thinking I had to plan to say goodbye
To my life around me and everyone I know
This is what I discovered that I could do
I found some folks refer to it as the LVP
A lung valve procedure - the breakthrough
For those who have emphysema or COPD
I want to encourage others to give it a try
To breathe again and continue to grow
It is certainly worth it for you to comply
Your improvements will begin to show
I want to be your sneak preview
Of enjoying life again with energy
The biggest reward I’ll give you a clue
Is being able to live and love my family
Those who need this I hope you qualify
It is such a blessing and the way to go
Even if it isn’t forever we’ll know why
We gave it our all and went for the gusto

There may be "Advantages" to smoking!
But, I can't think of any today!
It puts a great strain on your wallet,
but, it's really your lungs, that will pay!
Your clothes and breath will give you away!
They have that "Special" smell!
If you smoke in your car and your home,
they have that "smell" as well!
Young folks think, it's a sign of class,
and maturity, in a way.
Unfortunately, too late, they're gonna find
it takes their breathe away!
Yes, smoking, in time, will destroy your lungs!
But, you still could be all right!
You just, have to wear, an oxygen tank,
24/7 - all day and all night!
Eventually, you'll find it a chore, to walk
or go up and down the stair.
You must ride around on a scooter,
or maybe a nice wheelchair!
Why people smoke, is a mystery, for sure!
Since the redeeming features could be:
Cancer, Emphysema, Bronchitis,
and most likely, C.O.P.D.!
There is no law against, smoking,
and there is no "Advantage", that's true!
So, STOP, if you do - Don't start, if you don't!
The decision is up to you!
THINK ABOUT IT PEOPLE!
Emphysema…
So very deadly
Battle to breathe, loss of breath
Ultimate death by…

Finding Presence
Night sky beckoning dawn
Gentle sensations
Early morning walks
Empty avenues
Central Park breezes
Village cobblestone streets
Wet with glistening reflections
Accompany the seeker’s every move
Citified whispers
Discordant choruses
The street cleaner
The sliding steel-front security doors
Excited canines straining leashes
Open casements echoing emphysema-regrets
Merging with the early morning smells and start-up images
City’s reality mix awakening
Conscious-walking shakes loose somnolence
Opening eyes to the gargoyles atop historic landmarks
Their stoic residence mirrored in all-glass surroundings
Urban growth towering over huddling addicts of all types
Weary of sleepless nights
Enjoined by occasional pouting mannequins
Dressing light-starved windows
Poised to portray tourist-trap knockoffs
Rayon for silk
Fantasy for verity
Predatory “going out of business” choices ubiquitous
Shut down shops—beaten
Barely open shops—clinging
Wanderers drifting listlessly
Rising early by guilty conscience
Some prodding their welfare bodies to move
Others fearing unfaithful one-nighters become known
Old widows lean from their tenement windowsills
Having endured another sleepless night of heat
Too poor to leave the city
Too proud to ask of children
Soon
Sunrise bathes the grayness with color
Subway entrances congest
Yellow cabs begin cacophonous warm-ups
Like an orchestra of out-of-tune instruments
Their blasts are met with the inescapable “Taxi!” “Taxi!”
Deli workers spread cream cheese
Warm Bear Claws
Brew bad coffee
Wish their customers “have a good one”
Keeping secure their jobs
For another day
Returning home
Five flight walk up
One’s feet beg relief from the morning roam
A pull on the carton of OJ
A flip-on of the two-burner
The water to boil
A drop into the drug-from-the-dumpster-couch
Chock-Full-Of-Nuts in waiting
Want ads front and center
A few deep breaths
Just another day
Surviving the city
To the ground, plastics, papers and metals
To the mixture, scrap, damaged tires and dirty pieces of cloth
Amid natural ecosystems
From whose laxation natural escapes
The flammable methane gas
Triatomic is the altered range of oxygen by the action
Of electric shocks on the heights
Whose total damage, with inventing the steam engine
And the development of the industry, then started
The harbinger that future generations
Would live in fear of climatic cloister
Sometimes the abuse, it seems that conforms
When in the forests, indiscriminately to millions
Killing pathogens, exacerbate emphysema
Of the Blue planet, whose fury is magma itself
That spares nothing and all-consuming in vindictive eruptions

PUFF THAT MAGIC DRAGON.
In rain or sleet or hail.
Work and food and drink can wait.
One -two -three inhale!
PUFF THAT MAGIC DRAGON.
Its wonders never cease.
Calming nerves & desire to eat.
With its carcinogenic feats.
PUFF THAT MAGIC DRAGON.
No matter what the cost.
Cancer, birth defects, emphysema.
Thousands of lives are lost.
PUFF THAT MAGIC DRAGON.
This tiny paper roll.
Dictates the human body
To obey its every rule.
PUFF THAT MAGIC DRAGON.

The coal pits of yester-year in Wales..........
"Good morning Mrs Williams",
Good morning Mr Grey.
I see David's growing real fast,
Yes! He's starting work today.
Well you are twelve years old now son,
And you're working on the face.
Just listen to what the others say,
For the pit's a deadly place.
You'll need to see the foreman,
Mr Morgan is his name.
His eldest lad died down the pit,
What an awful bloody shame.
We need to get your Davey lamp,
Your hobnails and your pick.
Hey Dad, my hands are sweating now,
And I'm feeling real sick.
Don't worry Son, I'm at your side,
You'll soon be feeling well.
I could never let you come to harm,
Coz' your Mam would give me hell.
Just step into the lift now boy,
Close your eyes and breathe in slow.
To the blackness never seen up top,
Then the Davey's welcome glow.
The stench of urine, sick and sweat,
As the lift comes to a stop.
The eeriness of years gone by,
Made me wish I'd stayed up top.
After many years of mining,
With my lungs beyond repair.
The dust has left its horrid mark,
From that dark satanic air.
Yes! The pit it payed us wages,
Though a piece we had to pay.
Emphysema and needless deaths,
As my life slowly ebbs away...........

~ Me, 4 foster families adopted at 8,
a want to be perfectionist, creative athlete angry
torn apart, bewildered and alone, missed the
full college ride, the Olympics. ~
A.D.D., could not concentrate in school.
Drunken father, "they called Him "Frosty""
dedicated athlete, self centered-immature,
just like me lost his family, saw him when
last... he was 9 and a half years sober. ~
My life, I found out some years later, paralleled
his. Him a gymnast, me a diver, we even stayed
in the same room, bed, at the three quarter house.
Mom, God-bless-her-soul, supposed heroin addict,
died in a garage of asphyxiation, and my heart,
still-burns, hurts for-her... since she passed
I still wander how what way... and why.
Brother son of William, schizophrenic
never adopted, RAGE-AHOLIC, hated His
father for what he did to his family and
mother, and was acrimonious to the
end, was dying last I heard. Could
not or would not forgive him. I
pray though that if and before
he passed, that he did.
2nd youngest Sister, adopted, has
since past at the age of 6 and one
half, rare form of emphysema.
Her death hurts me most.
Youngest Sister adopted a
beautiful likeness, almost an
exact image of her Sister, Bi-
polar, sits in front of a window
in a rocking chair. Refuses to
take her Meds.
Claims herself the worst mother,
still keeps having kids, and though he
claims it Biblical I'm sure, and though
I never met him, I question the motives
of her husband. Though probably I am wrong.
I could go on... but I believe you have the idea.

It was like a
Circus arena
The arrival of
Hurricane Katrina
Coming down on Us
like Ike did Tina
Merely, plaguing Us
with emphysema
Which couldn't be cured
by FEMA
So, what were We to do
with No redeemer
Except to keep dreaming
like SELENA
Leaving Our Loved Ones to
put on the high beamer
When JESUS, Our Souls,
did subpoena
