Best Ear Poems
Over recent months I’ve had trouble with my hearing…
Misinterpreting what is being said isn’t so endearing
Take a step back and think of all the things you would miss if you couldn’t hear at all
The list is endless but here are a few I came up with
The cry of a newborn baby and your child’s first words
The symphony of the dawn chorus
Music and speech on the radio or TV
Phone conversations or chatting with friends
Going to the theatre or to a concert
The door bell or alarm clock ringing
And of course there are those three little words we love to hear …
‘IS DINNER READY ?’
OOPS I MEAN
I LOVE YOU
I took the plunge and saw a specialist and have been fitted with a hearing aid
Wow what a difference it has made
I can hear perfectly now
From the squeak of a mouse to the moo of a cow
And the best bit of all…
If someone is mouthy and starts to scoff
I can quickly turn my hearing aid off!!!

N B I have to approach what has been and what is going on in my life with humour it is just the way I cope with what life throws my way
Love maker,
Body taker Love shaker,
Hot whisper,
Peppermint & jasmine in air
Tickling every body hair,
Reverberating into the Queen's chamber,
A tiger's den teething to be,
Safety in no layer, romance the pillar of this prayer,
Our auras igniting flower vases ablaze
To compliment our shadows,
Personas fevered with juiced up joy,
We both played Aces,
Mine the Spade her's the Diamond,
Together we make an Ace of Heart's place,
Caprice keeping hold of Club's Ace,
She exhales stars from a mouth murmuring for moments of senseless beauty,
Purring for pleasure painted with a kiss,
Illuminating my frame with pixied permission
Unharnessed we are, as spontaneity seduces strategy,
Craving the next second like atoms in a spin for sin,
Feeling each other in ways undefined
Unrefined, simply, lustfully,
Loyal to needs supernatural,
Gifted in gritty game,
Rubbing her rose with fingertips of cool flame,
Giving her the wand that was once only mine,
As lovers now, belonging to Poetry's promise,
Complete partners, reunited treasures -

She whispered sweet nothings in his ear
He seemed so pleased, she’d nothing to fear
So odd, thought she, he never liked this before
And now with his smile, he clearly wants more…
If you can keep a secret, dear reader, I’ll tell you, says he
I’ve gone deaf as a doorpost; nothing irritates me
I just keep this silly smile glued to my face
Nod my head sometimes too, just in case…
"Brightest diamonds shine in darkest rooms,
willing hearts bleed out love for me and you"
Whisper close towards a frightened ear
soothe a shaken soul scared tonight
hold onto hopes of flight filled wings
where a painted rose will rise and sing
Carry my crutch just a little bit more
for when the south winds blow again
across flowing strands of love and care
my heart and spirit will be right there
Living moments in locked up dreams
no longer a little blue penguin burrowing
freeing fairy tale fantasy finally come true
glowing in the dark because the shine of you
An angel whispers in my ear
A sound of sweet enchanted bliss,
an angel whispers in my ear
When echoes waft a tender kiss,
and of these words I come hear
In thoughts of everlasting love,
now sung in heavens wondrous key
Soft melodies from up above,
euphoric phrases come to me
With promises of every smile,
upon my face that I might wear
Neath skies of mesmerizing style
and endless valleys born to share
For as she speaks my heart does race
in rapid pace and chanted flow
As on this day my eyes do trace,
a beauty that I long to know
With wings of woven silken sheen,
a’ shimmer in the midday light
And eyes once found within a dream,
as breath escapes upon this sight
My knees now weak I fall the ground,
oh this old soul can not believe
Of all the others cast around,
this angel comes to only me
When then her hands extend her side,
to lift me from my fallen stay
Lost moments of my soul confide,
are long forgotten on this day
I listen as she speaks again,
to end my once eternal fear
Affection from her lips to send,
an angel whispers in my ear

A most charming poet named Dan
Writes poems whenever he can
He is sixty today
So I’m writing to say
Happy birthday from your friend Jan

An unfortunate poet named Daniel
His huge ears made him look like a spaniel
They dangled down so low
Past his knees to his toe
The plastic surgeon re-wrote the manual!
The surgeon who was in charge
He had never seen ears so large
With a nip and a tuck
Daniel was in good luck
Dashing home to show his wife Marge

Hold a seashell to your ear...
Linger in it's tranquil tide,
breathe it's calming breezes here,
bring it's subtle strength inside
If you yearn for former times,
hold a seashell to your ear,
you'll return to warmer climes
and the ease of yesteryear
When you sense a tempest near,
if you would decrease the din,
hold a seashell to your ear,
find a bit of peace therein
Even now, as squalls move in,
you'll recall when skies were clear
if you, as rain falls again,
hold a seashell to your ear...

"Time to take the Soup off the stove,"
a little birdie whispered in my ear:
'Tis the Sabbath Queen that's drawing near."
But the Soup's not done, I dared to say
in an unpoetic, defiant way
The little birdie just looked at me
with pity, but not with sympathy
Shook his head and moved his beak:
"Sabbath's come; the Soup is done.
~ So's all your work for this week!"
They walk through the doors
Of a city so barren
With a walkway so cracked
And the wind it's so cold
You're due in the office
Your lost in the hallway
Do you want a code white now?
Best swallow that pill...
Is it you in the corner
With those chattering teeth
There is hell in your eyelids
You can't even cry
Was it you I heard screaming
With nightmares uncounted
And the violence within you
It's a fight you didn't start
Lord send us an angel
With a knack for compassion
And an ear that will listen
To the mentally ill

‘the truth done bent my ear; it whispered soft and long’
it soared before my vision; caped in gentle song

Easy to judge by what it seems to be,
More effort to immerse in what we hear.
Take time to talk, there is much more to me,
Before you tune me out, lend me your ear.
Estranged to yours my life seems to appear
Yet I laugh, love and struggle as do you.
Same start, same final and same febrile fear -
To be misjudged for diverse points of view.
Bisected by a biased borderline,
It only seems we are two worlds apart -
For eyes to see, open your closed up mind
Lend me your ear, I’ll open up my heart.

Sometimes my mouth
whispers to my ear
without movement; I feel the
vibrations travel through
my head.
I'd spy on it, clamp it,
but it says vile, shocking
things I never
would.
The sound
resonates within me.
My ears try
to cut the cord
but only amplify the screech:
inside me a giant ring
is ringing and I can't
let others hear it.
