‘the truth done bent my ear; it whispered soft and long’
it soared before my vision; caped in gentle song

Well look at you, winning contests and all. The truth can be both gentle and bold, whispered and heralded.

Congratulations on your trophy win, Ghairo, with this excellent contest entry. Together, the two lines form a balanced couplet: truth first enters through sound, then manifests visually and musically. It’s a complete arc of perception, almost mystical.

ThkU for Sponsorship & attention, Suzette. I’m happy I found that line before Becky removed her poems. Have a great weekend. X.

Hi Ghairo All but two of Becky Forbes’ poems have been removed from their page here at PoetrySoup. I can see in the search for the line that it was a poem attributed to this poet ... but what now? I have decided to accept this as a valid contest entry. Su

No, it is fine, Ghairo. I just wanted to let you know incase there are any queries because I had said in my contest description " poem of fellow poets here at PoetrySoup". The line used did come up in a search here at PS, even though the poem itself was removed from the poet's page. I did check every entry received - not only yours. It is business as usual. :)

Hey Su, that’s strange. I found it about two days ago, but didn’t get a chance to upload. Should I mail Becky to ask if she is willing to reload ?

Yes — the line “the truth done bent my ear; it whispered soft and long” does belong to a longer poem, and I was able to trace it. The full poem is indeed titled “the truth” by Becky Forbes, and it was published in October 2025. Here’s the core structure of the poem (summarised, not verbatim in full to respect copyright): “you are not the body; you’ve got the whole thing wrong. / you are only Spirit through and through and through; / never was this body truly ever you.” AT: AllPoetry
