“We’ll forget the sun in his jealous sky as we lie in fields of gold.” - from Sting’s Fields of Gold

One day in a museum, my mind on an old flame,
I found myself mysteriously being led
to a field of gold depicted within a gilded frame.
In the picture, pretty flowers beckoned, a brilliant red.
In front of it I stopped, thinking of my love and things we’d left unsaid.

I blinked, and in an instant, I felt sunlight
upon my face; then there escaped from me
a cry of surprise and sheer delight!
Finding myself engulfed by grassy sea,
with myriad poppies, I thought how could this be?

I twirled around. Yes, beneath my feet
was solid earth! Above was azure sky.
Spring was in the air, with fragrance sweet.
I was in the painting. I did not question why!
Oh, there was such beauty to make a poet sigh.

I thought about a song from days of old -
a song I used to hear on my car radio
about a man, who with his sweetheart, walked in fields of gold,
and I felt my bliss dissipating even though
I could still feel on my cheek the sun’s warm glow.

In the lovely flowered landscape, my time was nearly done.
It would not matter even if this were reality!
In fields of gold, I would lie with no one,
and no jealousy would blue sky have for me,
for even in my dreams, alone I’d be. . .

Premium Member Over the Moorlands

Sullen would be onset of grey, indivisible-dawning;
Soon, lifting mist dissipating beneath the brae.
Comes then a gentle heat arising with the morning...
Thus the remaking of another new, glorious day.

Sun-kissed slopes now aglow with purple blaze,
Vast moorlands slowly stirring from quiet slumber;
Clamorous whaups, hanging above the veiling haze,
Burbling down to disappear into the tangled tundra.

Together, paired oystercatchers pipe in rapid flight;
Skipping wheatears explore dry-stone walls.
There, old Barjarg, aglow in Junes vibrant light,
And I awakening to the hidden otters whistling calls.

Oh! to stroll once more upon the Cree's hallowed banks
Inside the sanctuary of her jealously guarded hills.
When tramping through the myriad of dew-drenched ranks
That had across the sheep-strewn meadow spilled.

If I but could joyfully follow the meandering course,
Again, of those rocky, gurgling, opaque, amber waters.
Thoughts, such as these, that surrender to a remorse...
Nought but wistful memories that provoke to taunt us.

Premium Member Alas, I Was Tricked By a Heartless Mirage

Hues I desired, soon abandoned my sky
As flashing thunder ignited fiery clouds
Dissipating orange glow evening sought
Turning wild winds into advancing storm

Having promised you a galaxy of stars
I stepped boldly to go where they are
But there was no moon to guide my path
As I waddled in floods pitch-blank dark

Birds had detoured to shelter and hide
Seeing ocean's ride in enormous tides
Scattering on earth a despicable plight
As upon a hill I saw a glimmer of light

Courage I found in wondrous thoughts
Knowing this was to be my only chance
Bracing the storm to go where you are
Waiting inside the tall red lighthouse

But when I made it there you were gone
Alas, I was tricked by a heartless mirage

"If someone listens, or stretches out a hand, or whispers a word of encouragement, or attempts to understand a lonely person,
extraordinary things begin to happen."

reminiscing reasons
ruminating rhyme
pondering reality
recalling thoughts sublime

never-ending pain
unremitting sorrow
evoking one recurring theme
a farewell to tomorrow

exhausted from the hunger
disabled by the thirst
consumed by each and every loss
will ‘better’ make things worse

thoughts embracing 'freedom'
dissipating pain
awaiting the tranquility
after so much rain

"Burden" (Lyrics)

Let me carry your burden
If something’s not right I will let you know
Like the paint that’s drying on a heart that’s broke

Let me carry your burden
Get you back on a high when you’re feeling low
When the weight’s too heavy but you won’t let go

Come to me my brother and I will sit with you awhile
Pretty soon I’ll see you smile
And you know you will
No matter how much you're hurting right now
You know that everything will change in time
So let me carry your burden

Let me carry your burden
When your might’s on fire but your mind is cold
And you’re fanning flames that won’t keep you warm

Come to me my brother and I will sit with you awhile
Pretty soon I’ll see you smile
And you know you will
No matter how much you're hurting right now
You know that everything will change in time
Let me carry your burden, O brother mine

Let me carry your burden
Come tomorrow you’ll be right as rain
It’ll quench your fire
Wash away your stains

Come to me my brother and I will sit with you awhile
Pretty soon I’ll see you smile
And you know you will
No matter how much you're hurting right now
You know that everything will change in time

Oh I just might see it in another light
Got no dog here in the fight
I could carry your burden
O brother mine

Their buzzing goes unabated
the cool air scent of lavender
in this unfathomable cosmos
where dreams are fulfilled,
a smidgeon of silver wind
utterly enthralled.

Within the icy voids of
aching and colorless hues
raven-inhabited remnants
vulnerable grays
aesthetic fog, fanciful yarns
dissipating wood smoke
whispers of winter, as dusk falls
dawn in monochrome
amidst gentle chimes
traces of an emotional waltz
oblivion is grieved in silence
a blackbird with ruby wings!

The colors of the trees
Iridescent in appearance
create a stunning scene
that is incredibly fortunate
this is a poetic domain
where lilts joyfully chortle
the trees gently move
and the dryads are overjoyed
the heart of lullabies
with brilliant opals
giving wandering spirits hope
back in their house labyrinth
Scarlet nests were seen on high boughs
romantic place where calm blooms.

With the hearth of lullabies
opals that are flaming
soul-directing the wayward.
they're back in their home maze.
nests of crimson grew snugly.
among the boughs, exalted.
a sanctuary for love.
wherever there is harmony,
exquisitely halcyon arbors
colorful tapestry with wonderful beauty
Iridescent sky with gorgeous hues
In this magical setting, dreams bloom
where nature's splendor is eternal,
calmly, trees swing, and the dryads spin.

I have a memory-
of going with father to see fireworks
we brought folding chairs and warm blankets
     it is a magical recollection
the neighbours gathered with anticipation
it
  began
with whistles and flickers flashes and snaps
a continual assault of pretty colors falling
    clusters of lights moving
                            and dissipating
strobes flashes bangs cascading waterfalls
glittering
       trailing
           projectiles and sometimes quiet glitter
father held my hand
stars hanging in the night sky and drifting slowly
down and then spheres of stars glowing
oh
    it is truly
               a wonderful memory-

"Black Tulips for the Dear Departed"

Stumbling between the Immensities
Cobwebs like lace capture her
keep her fixed at the door waiting,
should she cross over now, or remain?
Time is evaporating, time is dissipating,
the past is holding on tight with it’s claws.
Black Tulips for the Dear Departed,
like a White Lily she opens -
she walks through the door.

The light is astounding,
a legion of angels rejoicing
He is there waiting
with pearls at His feet for her,
she must kneel to uncover
rust blood wet on
so many book covers,
she washes His feet with her tears
Sapphires His eyes jubilation.
He beckons her closer,

“Here is your Book,
Let me read it to you”
He gives her His hand
it is warm to the touch,
He conveys this,
His message to her,

“This could hurt, let’s review”.
He smiles, she is His,
melting, golden
Lux Vitae
immersed in His presence
born again, LIVING
renewed.

Doom Bleeds and Fades

freedom lies with a shattered grace
stumbling toward atomic mythology
where answers have their sins washed
brilliantly bright as suns dyeing skin off-
colors of rumors circulating planets
of the universe pulled headlong into a night
-mare riding tattooed and complaining
about recollections of severed ghosts
(hiding in a ball of fear minds cry)

out of season the earth radiates melting
enraged stupidity the penultimate prize
(summer sunday christmas chimes)

on the edge of sleep falling awake...

ring the festival of blood into session
the birth-fangs grapple with truth no longer will
recessions bring harvests the moon is full

...and the eye is a clogged vessel full of truth
(in relative position the evening twists elaborate
dances like guitars bending the last strings...)

a painting of a brain chips and disintegrates
like words of a schizophrenic seeking the last
wisdom hidden in the bottom of a noise
only tasted...with the throat closing vision narrows...

the fading archetype is the last opiate of inspiration
the last leader is a shill of the lord of matter dissipating
(two raindrops collide) the core of her heart is hot
like earth it is revised toward oblivion...

...follow it it is
...night brighter than calm
...lipids sinking into servitude
...no one will digest this but all
choking dry paranoia on the fringe of town

(a different verb writes in the sky a new eternity)

...we witness the madness of a faceless doctor
scratching scripts illegible to the naked lie...

conscripted as a rat before a snake fighting its shadow
diving into the blind dream we call created angels
to save our skin from weeping generations of blood...

Oblivion's Obituary Mty

…the greatest poet who ever lived
…our Lord Jesus Christ

Wishes that wash upon the shallow shore,
Lacrimal lesions of the holographic whore…
Tectonic temptations, the lava shall pour,
Unleashing emotions, entombed we gore.

Mangled monuments of ruins regurgitate,
Surfacing megalomania of demons dominate…
Demonic destruction encroaches to infiltrate,
Demigods of desire will position to penetrate.

Distant horizons dissipating within plain sight,
Frigid frustrations amidst fore playing frostbite…
Detestation distortions of Hell’s agape appetite,
Antagonizing warring Angels take feverous flight.

Falling into oblivion within the blink of an eye,
Idempotent illusions making macabre to justify…
But there stands one soul, whose words do magnify,
Their love spreading thru asphyxiating air to clarify.

Reckoning

Unspoken words hang in the stillness of unmindful space,
like a touch never to be felt
A sight never to be seen
      A curl of smoke dissipating

A twist of faith has broken both wings
    Deeming, thrusting, unfeeling
For those who can no longer cry
           Or fly

A die is cast, rolling against time
    Crushing, Shattering, Smashing
         A fate and destiny
            That would never be

The once welcoming arms are now closed (forever shall be)
Faith has run its course (it was false after all)
        All that remains are tears,
             That would never dry

A hollowness dwells within,
  Siezing, Grasping, Clutching
    All rationale and sane thinking
       Hurling, Heaving, Tossing

           EVERYTHING
                Into a void of sorrow

OH YES, a hollowness dwells within
  Painful, Numbing, Dreary and Stark
     Warping, Bending, Blighting

        HURTING, DIStorTING, C o N t O r T i N g, FakinG

           What LIFE should BE
                   It all happened

The Escape

I fly with eagles on the one lane to Freedom
Through the desert of the lost souls of drought
Tears are dissipating from the speed of my Fate
Spirits chanting in the rhythm of the desired rain...

The sky commits suicide in my rearview mirror
The blackness of Death stabs memories with lightning
Sad drawers of my soul keep on being burglarized
By the same thief of the heart of an eternal romantic

I press time hard to the floor, put on make-up of Arizona red
The rays slap me with Hope through the sunroof of my car
Wings sprout painfully through my shrinking shoulder blades
I don't ask anyone anymore permission to fly with Eagles...

Ephemeral

Ephemeral

Tis not mystifying, though disheartening,
that we are simply passing shadows
…. a mere breath exhaled…. transitory
Sunrises numbered at first drawn breath
though each stand of hair is lovingly counted

A lone flower in a field of waving grass
 will pass unnoticed, once flourished.
The wind becoming the only witness,
to its existence, as its scent is carried
 across the meadow....fragrance dissipating

Swift waters of life slowly-- but surely--
wear away our most precious of stones
their features gently altered with time
until the final last grain deteriorates
finding rest, peacefully, on a distant shore

Caregiver's Road

Beneath a heavy weight I labored,
misunderstood by those I love and serve,
illness raging, family demanding,
expending soul and physical reserve.
Like a thin smoke quickly dissipating,
spirit tenuous, weak upon the road,
on the precipice of breakdown trembling
feeling endurance and harmony erode.

Along a peaceful stretch of sand walking,
listening to pounding surf, the birds,
tasting the invigorating sea air,
hearing in my heart God's voice, His words,
inviting nature in to permeate
my being, soothing the aching pain . . .
spirit at rest, on God's glory feeding,
I can go home, begin my work again.

My Train of Thought Now At 36

we stimulate our minds for our intellect to grow
becoming more technical
remaining spiritually slow

so we face trials and tribulation
crisis and complications
praising God, while serving Satan
expecting love when spewing hatred

our faith is dissipating
until its totally forsaken
for miracles we pray
yet and still we disobey

missed lessons
means blocked blessings

wrong paths are chosen
cursed to glimpse the promised land but never enter like Moses

it's hard to humble ourselves cause we've got pride
so we find a hard head leaves a soft backside

when stressed i ride
reclined, inside

sounds booming
trying hard to decipher the message in our music

Pac said keep your head up
Treach said guard your grill
Wu sang protect your neck
Cube said to kill at will

Eazy said easy does it
Run said hard times
Jigga ask can I live
but Big ready to die

50 cent said get rich ore die trying
K.R.S made stop the violence, and listen to my nine

these are questionable times
that leave young impressionable minds
hoping to find success pushing dope on the grind

thinking all the pain would end if they became rich
but the harder they hustle the more pain and anguish

if we could understand the hustle
we would over stand the struggle
instead we constantly land back in trouble

on frivolous pursuits
searching for forbidden fruits
living lies until they collide with the moment of truth

I been there and done that
played with fire and got burned as soon as my hand healed I'd run back

so young and misguided
mama said don’t do it I tried it
it's by God's grace I survived it

flash back to my youth I was so naive and timid
wondering if that path I walked on is the one the Lord intended
tired of getting beat by bullies so I learned to prevent it
but I found my self in front of the judge as a defendant

five times aquited of crimes that I committed
but the one time I was innocent is when I got convicted
justice may be blind, but she so vindictive
so I struggle with it
trying to make since out of the senseless

Whisper

(A Collaborated Poem with Liam McDaid and myself)

I hear a whisper…

In my dream last night, you've found another woman to hold
In your lonely nights, she becomes your sanctuary and desire
Turning your head away from an eastern promise
The whisper soon becomes a deafening silence too much to bear

I hear a whisper...

From the raindrops falling on grey cold pavement
Wet on the side not covered by roofs
Dry on the side that lies below the roofs
There, on the dry side, sleeps a homeless elderly man
Lying on used cardboard boxes and covered by layers of them
Has he given up hope for his own society or has society abandoned him?

I hear a whisper…

From the coffee dripping into a pot
Smell of caffeine fills the air delighting the senses
Camouflaging the scent of loneliness
There, on the coffee table, sits a poorly dressed elderly woman
Taking loudly to an invisible friend and having two plates of breakfast
Has she given up hope for friends or has friends avoided her?

I hear a whisper…

From the keyboard typing sounds in an office
Heat produced by machines blends in
Together with human activities rising high in temperature
There, on the window side, a nervous working man keeps his head down
Yielding to all demands and pressure from the top
Has he surrendered hope to power or has power overwhelmed him?

I hear a whisper…

That 'Hope' is still laying at the bottom of Pandora's box
Collecting dust from the detriments of evil actions
Slowly rotting away among fallen light of heavens
The whisper soon becomes an echo dissipating into a black hole
