Beautiful Mystery (English Sonnet)

I heard the roaring from amongst the trees
as sheeted water tumbled from up high
a place where nature lay in blissful peace
exhaling fragrant breaths that gratify
a soul that yearns for stimulative balm.
I looked in silence, daring not to move
at risk of losing empyreal calm.
Who could such wonder dare to disapprove!
Engrossed in rapture I became aware
of a nymph’s presence, by her dulcet voice.
She sang of freedom and of love to share,
but being human I had not a choice
to come into the open and declare
my heartfelt feelings to a maid so fair!

TOLERANCE

I have little tolerance for tolerant people.
Those that will endure the corruption of
the truth, the erosion of meaning. While at
the same time being intolerant of your
opinions, thoughts, and level of tolerance.

There is a quote attributed to Voltaire:
“I disapprove of what you say, but I will
defend to the death your right to say it.”

How many of the “tolerant” would be willing
to fight for our right to “disapprove of what
they say”? Hush the crowd so that we might
be heard? Unblock their ears and hearts and listen?

Does the present day “tolerance”
lack tolerance, lack understanding,
lack the ability to endure a voice that
is not in tune, does not sing the same
song, does not pray the same prayer?

Or do they tolerate, put up with, the “fool”,
while denying acceptance of his opinions,
his beliefs. Perhaps the fool is more tolerant than they.
Listening to what they say, watching how they
carry themselves, interact with those “different”
than themselves.

For they think him a “fool”, because they do
not know that he thinks, what he thinks,
and most sadly, they do not care to know.
They will tolerate his presence but not allow
him to be present, listen to his voice yet hear
nothing, speak of equality while lauding their
position, education, power over him.

For they are tolerant only of themselves,
of their ideas, their thoughts, their peers,
their alleged - equals.

They disapprove of us, and what we say,
and will defend their right to keep it so.

Premium Member Milton Creek, Sneak Peek

NOTE: To those who will soon be joining us in Milton Creek:
Please allow our Mayor to make the announcement. Thanks!

Lots of things are going on in the town of Milton Creek
now that the posse has returned after putting under arrest
the villain guilty of murder; but who pretended to be meek.
It's a lesson to those thinkin' of movin' to the wild West.

I've been hearing rumors that are spreadin' on the street
about a bunch of new townsfolks that are comin' this way...
to Milton Creek because it's been declared the county seat.
I'm sure they're all good people, Mayor Tom will have his say.

He don't take too kindly to those who barge their way in.
There's procedure to follow when runnin' a business here.
The town council will disapprove of sharks with a dorsal fin,
so, all citizens can live in peace, without the need of fear.

I bought what was a restaurant next door to the Aces Hotel.
It folded when many got sick from eating bad Mexican food.
Now, it's part of Milt's legacy, and I promised I'd never sell.
Dinner at Aces, dessert at the bakery, coffee: fresh brewed

Mayor Tom is off on a new adventure, but he'll be back soon
to announce the names of new residents coming to the Creek.
I'm sure he'll be calling a town meeting on the first afternoon.
For now, I thought I'd offer a glimpse, just a little sneak peek.

Premium Member Be Loyal

Be loyal whether things are going your way or not.
Unite with your fellow dwellers
Speak your mind
After you listen to their views
Take them seriously
You are in this together

Be loyal to your country, your family, and your friends
Do not allow anyone to put them down.
Stand up for what is right.
Show that you are listening,
And when you disapprove
Explain why in a kind and loving way.

Be loyal to your soldiers. Defend them and their assignments.
They are not given choices. They are given orders.
They follow them in good faith.
To keep the country healthy.
To allow you to enjoy your life
While they are possibly sacrificing theirs
In your honor.

Be loyal to your country’s mandates, and beliefs.
If there is something that needs to be changed,
Advocate.
But in a heartfelt, cooperative,
Wise and caring way.
Do not speak badly of your government or her policies.
Be loyal always.

Moon Prayer

The moon that graces evening skies
Has shone on those who’ve walked before
And in the glimmer of its glow
I almost see them walk once more

I find that we’ve not changed at all
Aside from fashion trends and such
As lovers still walk in the park
And babies coo at mother’s touch

And though I’d like to say we’ve learned
I see no evidence of that
As tongues still wag and disapprove
Of those with whom we’ve never sat

And so dear moon, if you could try
To shine the lessons of the past
Perhaps we’ll see how we can live
And light the world in love held fast

Call Me What You Want: Rap

Call me stupid
I don’t really care
I’ve been there before
Call me reckless
It doesn’t bother me
It makes me feel free
So, Why don’t you pull out a dictionary
Look up all the words you’d use to describe me
I bet they aren’t pretty
I bet they’re pretty cold
But so are you baby...

You’re inconsiderate
Practically illiterate
You’re obsessed with your looks
Because of your arrogance
You’re uncreative
So overrated
It’s like every damn thing I do
You always disapprove
Call that controlling
Baby I’m trolling
You think you your so attractive
With your lack of compassion?
What happened to chivalry?
You think your so sexy?
You’re full of desire
But you set love on fire

Premium Member The Blues

You have Africa on your mind
The distant land you left behind
With nothing to prove.

Humiliated, without a choice
There’s melancholy in your voice
What is your next move?

Vent your feelings through land and sea
To the rhythm that sets you free
Who could disapprove!

Raise your song – with a blend of hues
Bring on the notes of swinging blues
To shuffle and groove.

A Woman's Only Friend

Middle-aged woman puffs a cigarette
right outside the grocery store entrance.
Her dark eyes fall from mine while beads of sweat
trench above furrowed brow. “Spare a few cents?”
she asks under her breath. My muscles tense.

Annoyed, I shake my head; no words are spoken.
I toss a coin in her pail. Still smoking,
She gestures with a nod. The hazy air
hangs, weighted with her stench. As stone eyes glare,
my son begins to cough nearly choking.

Hard days have come to my family; life
has knocked us down. Humiliated, I
beg to survive, you see; even through strife,
we had love but no home. So forgive my
intrusion today as you hurry by.

It’s a nasty habit. You don’t approve.
My kids are gone; last week, the state removed
them. Now, this smoke seems like my only friend.
God took my spouse last year. I can’t pretend
life’s good. Forgive me. I, too, disapprove.

Just beneath the throat is a hot porridge
the body knocks down but still operate
heat all over, jump into the nearest fridge
sight shivers in its domain so temperate
morning light is covered by one big ridge
aches and weariness don't want to separate
from the stomach to the mouth is a bridge
for a crazy out pour to generate
since last sweet night, the mind is in a flop
quick and short morbidity from its groove
sips and gulps in an interplay nonstop
require the next coffee to disapprove
long consciousness puts the being back on top
back to normal and Life is on the move.

Talking To Myself

Whether you love me
Or just love what I do for you
You are a blessing.
You are a legend
To me you are an icon
I don't know if I know you
But you are an inspiration
To this generation

I might like you or really not like you.
I might love you or rather just hate you.
Approve you or just disapprove you.
Get you close or just distance you.
Tag you or never mention you.

But you, don't really need mentions.
You have got those eagle wings.
I know you can fly high .
High above the horizon.
To you, I know the sky ain't no limit.
You can defy the odds.
Though a lot of situations get into your path.
I don't know if anything can stop you.

You have got the heart of warrior.
That spirit of hustler.
The patience of a butler.
Courage of a lion.
The mentality of a champion.
You have got to put your crown on.
And never let it fall off.
Even when you dose off.
A little faith is just enough.

In this game, I know you are the best.
You play it so well.
You can win with your eyes closed.
You mastered the art flawlessly.
You paint the picture with compassion.
With marks and edges not known to my eye.
Creating a desire I can't resist.
I love your determination.

Whether you love me
Or just love what I do for you.
You are a blessing.
A born fighter and a winner.

Premium Member "walking Into Destiny" (A Collaboration With Michael J. Falotico)

I never planned to walk along the beach today…
Now I am glad my mind steered me this way…
Watching him sit there, lost in thought…
Evoked emotions, I was completely overwrought…

How do I get him to notice me?
How can a stranger make me weak at the knees?
Do I go for the cliché and send over a drink?
I have a weird feeling he might be my missing link…

Took a walk today on the local beach…
My pad in hand but my poem and words couldn’t reach…
So I stared out into the sea, hoping the right words to come to me…

And there walks a vision of beauty too far from me to touch…
I wonder, is she wearing a ring or is a broken heart her crutch…
Can’t let her go without a word or a funny line…
Maybe a cocktail or two if she gives the right sign…

I wonder should I make the first move…
He might think I am forward and disapprove…
My feet have a mind of their own…
Moving towards him, I can smell his cologne...

A simple hello can do no harm…
Who knows maybe my voice will work its charm…

She is moving closer and my nerves take a run…
The setting sun on her shoulders as the sky steels the sun…
Your smile glows as our eyes talk without saying words…
Then your accent finishes me off as soft words are heard…

Everything is a blur as you are the only clear sight…
My mind ponders just to hold you through the night…

Your smile a sign of our mutual attraction…
My simple “hello” a natural reaction…
As we sit across from each other…
I can’t imagine spending the night with another…

Premium Member Be Yourself

You told me I was not just average!
But when told that all one's life we
are...
We define ourself as such.
Till some metaphysical angel blows
the cobwebs off your mind.

Then, like a baby,we learn to think
and talk in ways of our own..
We grow beyond definition.
We rise to new heights with grace
and precision.
No boundaries, nor inhibitions!

The nay Sayers are still clinging to
their cribs and cities,
We live in states and in countries new!
Make new friends and we don't look back.
We lay track. We are not sheeples.

Lessons learned, openness to life
Not stuck to cliches from long ago..
Have made my life a meteoric ride,
An original life of which some may
disapprove.
The joy is one not need the stamp
Of approval from anyone in the present.
You, yourself, must give yourself the
coveted prize.

The past is but a wonderful to visit,
a soul vacation.
But the transformation into a butterfly
of a being...
Freedom and not seeking adulation!
Living in this day, in the now,
fully,
Has by far more a deeper meaning
And vast spiritual implications.

Premium Member Strength of a Friendship

Sometimes we just need a friend to hold us up,
like a vine on a garden wall, not to speak
but to listen and catch us if we fall. ~ by poet

Whenever trouble follows my every move
and tongues wag at me as if to disapprove
all of the things I have done or didn't do,
you are the one person who sees me through.

You are like a sturdy vine growing on a wall,
the reason why I never crumble and fall,
the staunch ally whose arms keep me standing
when tragedy's mandates are too demanding.

A smile from you when you hold my hand
makes it clear that you really do understand
that what I need most then is for you to listen
when tears flowing from my eyes begin to glisten.

You are the friend who always keeps me strong
when hardships in my life go miserably wrong.
We support each other so neither of us will fall.
You are the flowering vine on my garden wall.

HOURGLASS~SAND

Busted with a stain no one can remove.
I can't explain, the love I feel for you.
Time is passing, and you still have nothing to prove.
I'm stuck flipping while the sand flows from up to down.
Is it my love you disapprove?
Or, is it the depth of the addiction you find so profound.
I linger on the dream and the way we made it sound.
Inside the hourglass under the sand,
I can't breath (for you my love) 'I have drowned.'
Behind this glass I'm on idle under your command.
Waiting for your rescue, waiting for you to come around.
The ticking of time has me memorized to the double hand.
The rain is like sand, getting heavy by the pound.
One day I will flip and break this hourglass sand.
And turn the steering ship on rebound.
Reminding my heart that feeling it will never understand.
Near the ocean underneath the sand, is now my hearts burial ground.
In front of the ocean glass wave is now where i stand.
Hiding from the hours of the sun and its radiant crown.
Grabbing sand with both hands and blowing it on oceans land.
Reminiscing our destiny as it also pours on your glass of sand.

Like a Vine Growing On a Wall

When trouble haunts my every move

you are the one who sees me through.

You are like a vine growing on a wall,
the reason why I never crumble and fall,

lets me know that you really understand
that what I need is just someone to listen
when the tears in my eyes begin to glisten.

You are the friend who keeps me strong
when things in my life go miserably wrong.
We support each other so neither can fall.
You are like a vine growing on a wall.

The idiom, "Like a vine growing on a wall," refers to a bonding friendship between two people. The wall provides a foundation to which the vine clings and grows. The vine strengthens the wall by forming a kind of web to hold it together.
