Best Comprised Poems
I'm named a willow tree and live in grace,
the whole of me distinctive in its shape.
My elegance well suits this lush landscape
of hillocks flung across the field I face. . .
and gentle rills meander through this place.
In spring I don a long virescent cape
comprised of many supple arms that drape
to earth and, with Eve’s shadows, interlace.
Oh, countless times Sun’s flecked my every leaf
and Sky distilled her stars as night would creep.
Young lovers, though, have fled, their time so brief.
They used to spread a cloth to eat; then sleep
beneath me in my shade. They knew no grief. . .
Not privy to their destiny, I weep.

Italian Sonnet
cherry blossoms fall
confetti cast to the wind
tumbling to the ground
orange koi swimming
summer rain upon the pond
lotus of soft blush
bamboo whispering
their voices sing at twilight
serenade the moon
fire fades from the sun
low upon the horizon
bowing to the sea
rays of light shimmering gold
sunset crosses the threshold
***I posted this series of Japanese writings at the request of Dale Cozart. He saw the beauty of nature through these simple words on another poetry site. I thank you, Dale, and the many of you who now see it, too. It was entered in a contest, but the judge thought it lacked 'punch,' and called it "insipid."

Whispers of sunset
Carry on wings of evening birds
Rising moon awaits wolfs’ howls
Sundown serenade
Crickets chant their scratchy song
Hooting gallery comprised of owls
Phantoms awaken
Stalkers prowl ‘neath opera stages
Graveyards welcome spectral spirits
Points of light
Stars glisten in darkening sky
Street lamps guide travelers home
Fireplace crackles
Kindling ignites thick trunks of oak
Welcome warmth fills country homes
Toasts of wine
Lovers enjoy a fireside embrace
Candlelit shadows dance on walls
Grandma rocks
Old chair creaks on hardwood floors
Children gather for bedtime tales
Stillness follows
Consciousness retreats to dreamland
Tooth fairies and sandmen emerge

A book comprised of sixty-six,
with content of a unique mix.
Though found in almost every home,
It’s very much an unread tome.
The authors were a motley crew,
Into whose minds the Spirit blew.
Its storyline is God’s great love,
revealed through Christ sent from above.
Most other books, mere knowledge give,
But The Book changes how we live.
It has a storied history,
Yet most find it a mystery.
As best-seller, it has no peers,
It outsells all books year by year.
Most governments its impact fear,
They ban it from the public sphere.
The more obscure The Book is made,
the more society’s morals fade.
Crime rates increase, there is no peace,
As men are controlled by caprice.
You want to save the human race?
then give The Book its rightful place.
We sure can use God’s saving grace,
So, let’s stop flying in His face.

Standing alone in a field of green
Near the cliffs edge by the sea
Nothing in view for miles around
Just ocean and greenery
A ruin so simply beautiful
That has withstood the test of time
Determined and steadfast
Though no longer in its prime
It’s roof once shiny tin
Comprised now of one rusty sheet
The stone so lovingly hand laid
Now crumbled and incomplete
All that’s left of this home that was
Some rusty metal, wood and stone
Who lived here through the decades
Were they happy in this home?
What stories could this old ruin tell?
What secrets does it hold?
Did it house happiness and love
Or dark mysteries to be told
This ruin and where it stands
Is a compelling work of art
So intriguing and so proud
Captivates my heart!

He came to me with skin like ivory,
although his eyes and hair were dark as night.
He came with one year past his eighteenth year.
I, with one year shy of my adulthood,
was a woman-child with expectations
brimming of romance!
He was my Adonis and I, his virgin Madonna love.
Deep gazes and nibbles on the neck and ear lobes
comprised our innocent foreplay.
The main event of our romantic love
was everything
(yet nothing more than long sweet silken kisses).
Romantic love was chaste,
unsullied by a future for us that never came.
Probably he’d had experience.
I’d never thought to ask,
but he instinctively knew better
than to ask more of me
than in that momet
I was prepared to give.
Nearly half a century since then has passed me by.
I do not know where my Adonis is,
yet here I am now writing poems
about that special night.
Other romances came and went.
Then matrimony bound me to a long-time fidelity.
However, the young Madonna that I was
one beautiful warm September night
appears from time to time inside my poetry
as I reinvent myself as Cinderella
because a chaste romance dwells eternally
in long smooth sweet silken kisses
where ivory perpetual romance prevails.

**“Those that respect the law and love sausage should watch neither being made.” –
American Humorist/Author Mark Twain (real name Samuel Clemens)
Prestigious lawmaking bodies are comprised of solons*
Some find it hard to refrain from comparing them to cons
Few legislators know the ramifications of bills
And the way they’re rushed to passage can give the public chills
We don’t know what’s in bills or how they strip away our rights
And if we ask our lawmakers, they provide few insights
Piles of amendments are thrust hastily in political machines
Objections are made; no one successfully intervenes
“What’s that?” we ask later when we realize what has been done
(In Kennesaw, Georgia, all citizens MUST purchase guns)
Try to blend the conservative and liberal viewpoints
You’ll find the machine sputters with fat spewing from its joints
It’s like taking hunks of pork and grinding them into links
The process is messy and the outcome usually stinks
No matter! We are supposed to smile and just eat it up
Then we wash it all down with a sip from the lager cup
Pork barrel projects like Alaska’s “Bridge to Nowhere” confound
As on nebulous values of bills lawmakers expound
So beware if for common sense in these bills you forage
And remember old Mark Twain’s analogy to sausage
*Solons are members of any legislative or lawmaking body.

Ethereal Bliss
Your long pretty limbs and shapely trunk defy
Rings, occult within, unseen by the naked eye.
Rooted as saplings we've grown tall, you and I.
Bending in strong winds in chaos we try
To feel a calming peace from our sunset sky.
Like my car's engine, the gasoline you require
Revs your classy motor with love to aspire.
A premium fillup adds sweet fuel to your desire,
Then you make that purring sound I so admire.
Like melting snow with the heat of your heart
You melt me, then drown me in love's divine art,
A destiny sanctified right from the start.
As a shooting star blazes through outer space,
I see it's soft shimmering light on your face.
Rose petal soft lips share a sensuous kiss.
Entranced by the sight of the moon rising high
While leaves play a susurrate song in choir,
A drum shares its tune as my heart plays its part.
My shoes and her heels dance with such grace
Assuaging my awareness of ethereal bliss.

We Loved Her In Vain
The bones of your life lay there
you were gifted far too fair
You travelled a path far alone
before we saw, you were gone
The castles you left so pure
truth was part of your allure
Did you gift us your very best?
or save that for your new quest
Sunday morns you would go walk
there, strange dancing as you talk
Your return consumed us with glee
loved in your sight only me
You are now very deeply missed
we adored you, were not kissed!

chlorophyll greenery, Spring’s
creamery daffodils chock-full of light.
bees alight; honey wings.
violette clematis rife —
the ribbon wraps ‘round my neighbor’s mailbox.
her preserve rocks wildlife.
the southern cottonwood tree
sheds seeds of tumbleweed-like fluff, blowing
in warm wind; swing drifts free.
sights and sounds all around us.
He darkens our world, likewise lights it up
God fills our cups no muss.
the music of the starshine,
the invitation of the moon halo —
romance slow; paintbrush pines.

"Family love, hugs, smiles, laughter and acceptance of togetherness within a home, precious moments made. Quote_by Poet"
The sunlight streams though the stain glass window
dappled rainbow hues upon the floor, dust
specks dance on beams of light in the shadow.
A tipped deep breath blown; then fades in trust.
Children run down the stairs ever robust
songs of merry and dance full of games play.
Hide 'n' seek, gay dog and cat chase all day.
After dinner family play charades.
Stepping' up, rock 'n' roll, afterwards pray.
Somber dappled gray shades as daylight fades.

each grain of sand, every molecule
has rested on Earth since time began
raindrops now fall and dampen my hair
once part of waves rushing through mom's hands
a universal tie binds us all
without exception, we are matter
comprised of resources long existing
our consciousness? part of this batter
our self-destructive mannerisms
serve but to rearrange elements
ashes to ashes and dust to dust
will come to pass in a greater sense
every particle has its own place
in both our todays and tomorrows
for each bridge built, each new life born
from our world's past has something borrowed

Forgive me, but I cannot stand the smell
of haggard roses, red from man's abuse;
though pleasing to the eye, the scent does tell
of love that was once fair, but now cut loose.
I wish to wallow in a grand bouquet
comprised of roses painted like the moon,
for virgin hearts are pure until they stray
from gardens seeded with their fathers' boon.
Tis true; an infant rose is white at birth,
but there are those who live to taint the bud
with careless hands, diminishing its worth
because her needles drink dishonest blood.
Fear not; I'd never yield a scarlet thorn,
for I adore the color you were born!

Sonnet
When that mind of yours a vicious censor screams
“you can’t,“
every time you even vaguely contemplate some new adventure or perhaps that dream encounter,
you’ve been promising yourself and those you cherish,
to the point where even staunch social contacts start to wonder what’s going on deep down inside,
as golden junctures make their presence felt.
Be sure to reprimand this roguish ban on self-esteem,
say you are no longer having any of their nonsense, that the days for being obsequious are gone,
forever and beyond an infinitely lavish dispensation.
From this point on you are the captain of that ship which is your mind,
the crew which of course will be comprised entirely of a carefully selected band of pro-goal thoughts,
careful vet and check for just one purpose,
sole allegiance to your script,
those wishes leading to that wonderland enchantment you must always strive for,
the nirvana you deserve.
Things magical outside the normal human zone await one brave enough to spurn that loathsome inner bully known as doubt.

From April to
September
our children’s ages
comprised
a power series - 2,
4, 8
then 8 turned 9
and the series
crumbled
though 2 & 4
remained
but in February - 4
turns 5
and all is lost
until April
when 2 turns 3
and we have 3 & 9
until September
when all
permutations
disappear.
Acquaintances,
including my wife
think it’s peculiar
that I
a) note,
b) remark, and
c) write a poem
on these vanishing
singularities
Maybe they're
right.
