when winter woke and dealt its hand
it froze the heart of cumberland
as icy air dispersed in spades
to twist and cut like razor blades.
small pools of water turned to glass
to shine like diamonds in the grass
while freezing sprays from waterfalls
formed icicles on wet stone walls.
when nature's breath turned all air warm
the earth embraced another form:
the snow that fell - now sadly gone
decked out a land to look as one.
if elements of that year's weather
could club the fells and fields together
why can't the jokers do the same
and follow suit - and raise their game?
Around since 1885,
These playing cards contain
A fascinating history
That Google helped obtain.
My favorite fact’s from World War II.
(It’s more than rumored lore.)
Some special decks were sent as gifts
To prisoners of war.
These U.S. soldiers, held in camps
In Germany, did learn
That moistening the cards would yield
A map for their return.
Escape routes cleverly concealed
Within the layered cards
Would likely not be noticed by
The German soldier guards.
In Vietnam, as well, some decks
With only Ace of Spades,
Were sent to the Americans
To use in jungle raids.
The Viet Cong were so afraid
Of how this Ace appeared,
Just seeing one would make them flee
So villages were cleared.
While we are playing Solitaire,
Casino, War or Spit,
We should remember how those cards
Helped troops, if just a whit.
Just children with their homemade card
Brought so much joy when I was down.
I was so sick my heart was scarred,
Just children with their homemade card.
To show their love, it was not hard,
Their love to me a peaceful gown.
Just children with their homemade card
Brought so much joy when I was down.

Come on artists
lets play a game
its all different to me and i want you to see how i am different
and let me shine as you sign up another way
as i prove to you my leadership of this new age wave
cards cards
give them new meanings
like you never knew you could
and lets make the psychics pine through our words to figure out
what they are reading and believing
I wanna see your hearts and spades
dressed in tall grass or lemonaide
i wanna see your cups and wands
inbetween whispering winds and songs lead me there
i know you can come on
come on
come on be strong
like a suit of clubs or diamonds
show me something
and then sprinkle your writings
and we'll make collectors out of all those we invite here
as they read and ponder the meanings of our literature
whats in your hand?
a royal flush a pair?
and as we deal the cards they stumble upon at this endless game
of cribbage or poker
or tarock
or war who is winning and getting points?
what card means what to who and why
tell me artist as you write with your style on low and high
what makes what suit smile and fade shine and slide?
inside outside sphere of influence
be their collective the object of the psychics to crave?
blind leading the blind
and something they are after for days and days
a few cards your favorite cards play smart or dumb
shuffle the cards pick a game deal a hand
reveal what your playing and one day i'll tell you what we're playing what your
cards mean
if nothing
to someone one day when the stumble your way
the mystery of nothing speaks something
and we rebuild the puzzle of cartomancy better and better this way
just inspire
once you know you can't
blind leadin gthe blind
so after you read this you can't
play along your uninvited
strike it off your list of things to do
round one is over now go find all who wrote
all who write all who have wriitten the masterpieces
of cards and see what they mean today and collect them for that is something no
one else can do
until round two....
The past is depression
The future is anxiety
and this is the lesson
you live in neither these
Past dealings can’t be dealt with now
when dealt with past dealings they are
let go and depression can’t pull to drown
In the present you live you are
The plans for the future are played out
as they become the present for that they are
Overthinking assured or in some doubt
is anxiety breeding can only harm
The present isn’t a measurement it’s a moment
don’t let the past own it
The present is the path going forward
don’t wish it passed fast have known it
You don’t play the last cards you were dealt
when the game has ended
and you don’t sit and wish the next round,
Live in the moment
Should it happen that someday they're seeking struggling bards,
To compose witty verse for Hallmark Thanksgiving cards,
I think that I should like to summarily submit,
The following mots for consideration, TO WIT:
(1) Savor the oyster dressing, giblet gravy and thigh,
The sweet pertaters, green bean casserole and punkin pie.
Hope you have a goodly supply of sodium bicarbonate,
To counter the wrenching effects of all that grub you ate!
(2) To Grandma's house, hordes of kith and kin will repair,
For a delectable repast (after Grandpa ends his interminable prayer!)
May naught but love and fellowship dwell amongst you there,
As His bountiful harvest each of you gratefully share!
(3) The Thanksgiving meal is over, men folk watch ball teams battle,
While the women folk sit about the table engaged in idle prattle.
Mom's thoughts are elsewhere on how to deal with left over turkey;
She's a genius at creating soups and potpies, even turkey jerky!
(4) A Happy Thanksgiving to one and all.
Relish this time together and have a ball!
And may all with thankful hearts ever lift,
Praise to Him, the Giver of every good gift!

Nothing stays the same, fragrant flowers fade,
cloaked in shame, am I to take the blame?
when rainbows abandon colors,
twisting pristine purple into pale grey vapor.
Masks eventually slip and cards of lies unfold~
reversed angels, orchestrating cruel charades.
Everyone needs a gold psychedelic prejudice card.
A PP card to carry that shows whether they are an auto-demi-dog or republi-cat
A PP card that says whether they are a liberal or a permissive, a pinko,
or a fundamentalist right-wing-bird.
This all-knowing PP card could instantly tell us whether their kitchens are red or orange or another color.
Without gold PP cards, how do we know who to hate?
Sure, we can sort some people out as hate-able right away.
White people’s faces blaze forward in a glaring way, so face colors are easy.
Freckled people have freckles on their faces or their arms, so if we want to hate them, cards are not necessary.
Red-headed people cannot hide their hair all the time.
Chevy drivers have that Chevy emblem, so that’s easy.
But for some stuff, we truly need a gold PP card –a hate card, so we will know who to hate.
I think this card should be implanted under our foreheads, but shiny enough that we can see it,
So when we decide to talk to a stranger on a bus or in line at the airport we know WHO we are talking to, so we will know who to hate.
Also, our children will meet only the kinds of people we approve of.
There are a lot of undesirables out there. They need to be pointed out right away, so we can instill a solid ground of prejudice in them at a young age.
I am thinking the PP cards should be implanted at birth.
Am I right?
(*Glossy and costly! Family name imprinted,(as if we did not want know
their first and last names? And surely no verse allowed!*)
(( But, I made this one up. Heh-heh!))
Sorry…we simply haven’t a second to call..
We are not cheap, oh, no, nothing like that at all.
Been traveling up and down this great state.
See our stunning picture, next to the Golden Gate?
That’s our Jenny, my, oh my, she’s so tall.
Ben and Tommy, as you see, play football!
Mom and I, are sure getting lots older…..
She’s already two inches below my shoulder.
Doggie Dan is a barrelhouse of fun.
See him there, chasing a cat in the sun?
Granny, nah, she ain’t in our picture.
Old and young~ heck, that’s no good mixture!
Do message us, if and when you can.
Nobody writes emails, they are….‘also rans.’
Limits on personal words, we know sound crazy.
Least to Grandma, who we know, one day.
Will soon be pushing up those daisies!
So bye, till next year, we’ll send more of these.
We just adore mulling about saying,” Cheese!”
Grandma wastes all her time at a poetry site?
Makes her feel good ~ better than being tight!

She rode barefoot on her
unicorn all through her house.
Had lunch with Greek wine and her Muse,
but of course!
Read her Tarot cards and knew
her world was alright.
Saw her aura in the mirror and
kissed her cat~a sweet goodnight.

Sat here looking thru a stack
Of every I love you you gave
And I thank God for the good times
Specially now you’ve gone away
First a birthday then a Christmas
You never missed a single one
Now every folded memory culminates
With me wishing you weren’t gone
All these cards
Once touched your hands
They’re one small step back
Back to when
Every feeling
Helped warm my heart
There’s more than words
Inside these cards
Some bring laughter, others tears
Yeah who’d have thought, after all these years
How one small something, from a drawer appears
Making you cherish what’s disappeared
All these cards
Once touched your hands
They’re one small step back
Back to when
Every feeling
Helped warm my heart
There’s more than words
Inside these cards
In that envelopes a note from the heart
Don’t you dare say it’s only just a card
When the day comes, that you part
That drawer then holds priceless art
All these cards
Once touched your hands
They’re one small step back
Back to when
Every feeling
Helped warm my heart
There’s more than words
Inside these cards
Remember as a child playing cards,
Go Fish?
A child's life and fishing go together,
dreaming about catching the big one.
How big is the big one?
At what age will they catch it?
Will it be from land or from a boat?
Yes a child will dream about the big one,
the big one being on the end of their fishing line.
One Day ~ Some Day.
Life is like a game of cards
Play the hand you’re dealt
Engage your whole self

Four dogs (Spike, Chilla, Bobi and Bluey) are playing poker on the table. A cat is the server.
Spike said, "Whoever wins this game will be the master for one whole week."
Chilla grinning at Spike, "You are already twenty three, but you can still serve me for a week."
Bobi averred, "I am the oldest, I should win this game!"
Bluey is silent, concentrating...
Spike laid his cards, showing a Full House.
Chilla laid his... a Royal Flush of Hearts.
Bobi showed his... a Queen and four Aces.
Bluey revealed his... a Royal Flush of Hearts too.
Spike and Bobi complained: "How did you two get the same suit of Royal Flush???!!!"
The players looked at the shuffler. The cat said, "I shuffled two decks of cards. I want everybody to win so I don't have to serve forever."
