Go Fish The Big One

Remember as a child playing cards, Go Fish? A child's life and fishing go together, dreaming about catching the big one. How big is the big one? At what age will they catch it? Will it be from land or from a boat? Yes a child will dream about the big one, the big one being on the end of their fishing line. One Day ~ Some Day.

Dear Paula, You brought such a wave of nostalgia and gentle hope! I instantly remembered those childhood games of Go Fish and all those big dreams we’d cast out alongside our lines. There’s something so sweet about the way you capture the curiosity and wonder of waiting for in all those childhood hopes that still linger. Blessings, My Dear Paula, Daniel

your poem sparked a memory of fishing with my dad from his old flat bottom boat out in the middle of a lake....we nabbed the big one....what a delightful experience to have with my dad. Anyway, I found your poem captivating. Wishing you a blessed evening, Sara

My dad and I used to go fishing but never caught anything big and always threw them back in, maimed of course. The only big one I ever caught was my lovely gal

As a young girl I was captivated by Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, so I made a fishing pole from a branch, found discarded fishing line and hooks on the shore of the lakes or rivers where our family would go, and bait my line with marshmallows or the scraped insides of clams, etc. My dad was so shocked, I always caught fish even when he didn't, he couldn't believe it! They were always little ones, and I always threw them back. Your poem was memory provoking, thank you, very sweet :)

In the film, "Godfather Part II", Fredo receited Hail Mary's with his line in the water. That was his secret he revealed to his nephew Anthony. Reading this fine work reminded me of that scene in the movie.

As a youngster, Paula, I just wondered when I was gonna catch a fish… any fish. There were very many times that I spent eight hours sat beside a canal and caught nothing. Nowadays, I do wonder if the next fish will be THE fish. Enjoyed your poem, Paula. Terry
