Best Bitter Sweet Poems
Bitter sweet like a strawberry,
My breath slowly fades away from me
As the sun fades at dusk.
Perhaps the journey has placed us here,
Or by chance we just don’t care.
Bitter sweet like the cutting of old ties,
The warmth melts me,
My skin, my bones, the tender muscles sing
The sweet soft sounds of serenity,
Or perhaps it is the silence that aluminates me.
Bitter sweet like graduating,
All that I have once known has escaped me
But is replace with something so delicate,
So perfect, so absurd, so mine.
And is soon to be taken away.
Bitter sweet like the last kiss,
Because it destroys me all over again
Until I fold to my knees
And crawl back once more
For another taste.
Bitter sweet is you to me,
Cravings surge with every beat.
Withdrawal only makes the longing grow.
Because you are my drug:
My lovely, bitter sweet addiction.

Most times, there was just the three of us Most times, we would escape without a fuss
It was a 'Back of the Bus' kind of experience Actually, it was worse, because there was 'no Bus'
It's like this: In my neck of the woods, there was a big PLAYGROUND, but one built just for 'Whites Only', and
we were Black. It wasn't that we didn't know, nor that we couldn't read. It's just that we wanted to PLAY, and
did not really care about anything else. We knew that if we were caught, the three of us would have to 'kick up dust',
because someone would run us off. That PLAYGROUND was equipped with the strongest swings, merry-go-round, and sliding board.
I tell you, kids were born to PLAY, and when that time came, and the coast was clear, fear of racism disappeared. In the minds
and hearts of Dennis, Johnnie, and myself, the 'spirit of PLAY' appeared and we, like gangbusters, rushed to the great forbidden PLAYGROUND.
Growing up in The South during the 50's was a bitter-sweet experience; but today, it's a little sour, but mostly a very sweet memory.

Your room remains unchanged-
just as it was when you went away-
Care Bears and books still arranged,
your dolls all lined up on display.
On the table by the window nigh-
miniature Briar horses on array-
now gather dust not knowing why
you nevermore come in to play.
The Gingham Dog and Calico Cat
are held captive behind your door-
Green Eggs and Ham and a crooked hat
bring a smile to your face no more.
There are no more Easter eggs to dye-
or costume parties on Halloween-
no more sugar and spice or kites to fly-
no more baby kittens to wean.
Annie remains forever young-
but not so real little girls-
childhood times are too soon done-
stolen away as time unfurls.
Cabbage Patch Kids and lets pretend
have given way to wedding rings
I always knew that these must end-
bitter-sweet memories each now brings.

Iambic Pentameter
There she was
just a few feet away
Glossed lips
Powdered face
Faux lashes
Contoured cheeks
We locked eyes
then she looked away
cold and distant
Maybe she was
tempting me
to walk in her fire
She was sweet
like sugar
Sugar is what tempts us
pouring upon
our wildest fantasies
Sugar gives us cavities
rots our teeth
our soul
our world
It seems
vanity is
always in style...

He left, I was only a boy; vernal and
frail
and ignorant,
In a fierce world, hardship and
dread there
within, and there was I, growing
bitter
and ever
cold.
I clung to her who's flesh from
whence I
came;from her who bore birth's
pain.
Her
nurture fed me and her heart
spilled on
mine a good, ever growing close in
her
tightening grip
Time has past, a bitter grew, him
towards.
He lingers in a memory close,
But her presence created me a
peace, soft
and sweet, heavy not my heart, and
I
suffered nomore.

Narrative
She rotates under the balance of my hands
sweet memories we derive
unfamiliar dance steps, mistakes already reaching five
but with the reception of her smile, I thrive.
The stream of her tender archive
into it I completely dive
even when our minds sometimes disagree with the jive
mysteriously to our pleasure, both hearts connive.
Gradually clicking and stepping
the motion is set, we drive
our bodies, dependent on each other
like the bee and its hive
envious cohesion, sweet emotions and heated passions
we unconsciously contrive
our heartbeat, impulses and gazes
taking over despite the melody of the music so alive.
The licks of our skins and my loan of her waist
are taking this dance to a level we won’t survive
a lot in both minds
which all stimulate and also deprive.
Our thoughts so secretive
yet having one loud voice as we strive
the gossip of my body rhythm says it all
“I am so ready to swive”
The bell of caution rings
my senses and morality revive
as the sign of a “no trespass”
is conspicuous on her delightful finger.

A Bittersweet Celebration
His wife had died and how he wept
The world he knew had tumbled down
He recalled what she used to say
Enjoy this day for it will end
They lived as if each one would stop
and not another day shall rise
And happiness was theirs to hold
And now he lived to seize each day
A Carpe Diem he could share
In memory of his poignant loss
A celebration bitter sweet

"A Bitter Sweet Tragedy"
It was a typical mid-morning, on January 15 1919, on Keany Square in
north Beantown, you could hear the hooves of horses clopping up and down.
Above the hustle and bustle normally abound, came a deep throated
resonating and horrifying sound.
It grew louder and louder and the next thing they heard, sounded like
slinging turtles. "How could it be? That's absurd!"
Locked in disbelief, they started to cry, "Run, run, run, before you die!
A tank filled with blackstrap molasses had burst at the seams, spewing
two million gallons of black sticky streams.
A massive tide towering 40 feet high swallowed up man and beast like
a spider would a fly.
Some were entombed while still alive, other held on praying for help
to arrive.
When the tide subsided and finished its run, 150 were injured and 20
more lives were good and done.
Lives were lost, lessons learned, settlements were paid but never earned.
And so the story ends with one though to attend.
It is the bitter not the sweet that gets you in the end.

I wake up in a cold sweat
I can't catch my breath
I think back to when we met
My lungs collapse like death
My mind thinks of you as lost
My heart still endlessly searches
Without you i'm cold as frost
I accept you're gone and my heart lurches
The tears start to stream from my eye
I look at the pictures i have of you
The memory of your smile makes me want to die
I scream "oh please god don't let it be true"
The bitter sweet memories are all i hold
So tainted since you passed on
Your lovely words haunt my very soul
I load the gun; how could i ever go on

The rocky road of childhood lingers on
And still I hear the echoes of those nerds.
A galaxy away and yet so near,
I was the dove and they the preying birds.
Hey, 'chunky', ' lemonhead' they'd shout at me
And snickers would resound throughout the yard,
'Three Musketeers', 'The Smarties' they were called
They knew the skor, their taunts would leave me scarred.
The lies they told, the whoppers, made me cry
Take 5 one said as fist beat on my chest
At zero was my self-esteem back then
Their spree of ridicule was not suppressed.
Oh Henry!, now the years have rolled on by
Yet bitter, recollections still endure,
The starburst of your youth too soon was quenched
Pay day will come for them, you can be sure.

The greatest gift a man could ask for in his life
Is being responsible for the smile his woman brings alive
She's already a goddess that was sent from heaven
That devilish stare she gives with her eyes
And a smile so rejuvenated like water it quenches your thirst
I walked by her many time
Side-eyeing her beauty
Every time she grins it puts me in a trance
It was love at first sight a love that hurts but feels right
A safe place to get away from this cursed world
Her cold and my warmth was like night and day
But togetherness is what I cherish so it's only right I stay
For Love has no expiration date but my life without her would expire today
A woman that has a big heart that's why I like to give her big heart
She once greeted me with her eyes saying little to a lot
Like gems, you can't put a price on her
For she's attractive bold and has charms that'll cure your mood
Birthdays holidays and even the day I first held her hands
Feels like that was a long time but her softness still lingers
I wish these times could last forever
Memories that flow like the season that is bitter yet sweet
And eyes only for me that show discreet
Oh my sweet cotton candy
Hope your days are filled with laughter and love
Hope the me you see is the me you trust
And those hugs and kisses keep coming cause it's never enough
To you my one true love
Have faith that those bitter-sweet days stay like you
Bitter on the outside and sweet on the inside
For no one else needs to know how you taste but me.

Beneath the snow, sharp thorns grow on your tomb;
Reminders of the rose, that there once bloomed.

So easy in love,
so easily out.
With the flick of a switch,
your left in no doubt.
Maybe someday she`ll realise,
but then maybe she wont.
What if now she feels alive,
now that you dont.
We pull strings and play games,
impassionately annoy.
Passion becomes a crime
when we play with hearts like they`re toys.
Now dont let them in,
because you may have to smile.
And theres always a risk that they`ll tear out your heart,
and have it dangle awhile.
The risk is called love
and it gives such a buzz.
Its what makes us human
and turns us to mush.
It goes up and comes down,
brings laughter and pain.
Once you`ve tasted it pure
you`ll never be the same.
Loves a bitter sweet pill,
not for the faint hearted.
Some lose it to greed, envy or lust,
while some lose it with their dear departed.
Whoever you love and however you live,
dont dwell on the whys the what fors and what ifs.
Live each day as new and dont be scared to let go,
because true love will not judge you,
take you for granted or say no.

Sadness sets in like the night
Gradually and slowly in the dimming light
It melts the light into the horizon
Occupying the vast space, its job done
You fall asleep waiting for day to appear
You wait for dawn to near
You close your eyes and enter a nightmare
You cry in virtual reality leaving you bare
Finally it's over and day sets in
It comes with a boasting brightness claiming its win
It washes away any trace of the dark
It fills you with hope and joy leaving a permanent mark
But beware, night will come
It will come and take over with its haunting hum
Along with it comes the nightmares and fears
Along with it comes the wait and the tears
Don't worry, as night is sad day is happy
Happiness will come, with all of its golden glory
It will shine all around
Making its presence profound
It's a circle it will never end for all we know
It's a circle to which we have no choice but bow
We accept with modesty that life is this
Neither is it pure torture nor pure bliss
It's a constant battle forever
Between sadness and happiness, no one will win however
Both always are in equal measure
Sadness weighs you down happiness is a buoyant pleasure.
