Venus Gifts A Yarrow's Kiss

Oh, weeping willow shed your sorrow on whispering breeze to soothe your grief within whose breaths a healing yarrow to whisk away tears upon your leaf. Sweet rustling zephyrs embraced in sway misty-eyed murmurs mournful wind-song a wistful heart in bosom ballet as shadows dancing with currents throng. Weep not, soulful shimmer neath sun’s gold for chartreuse vines flying west winds’ bend illumination’s in roots to hold as pinkened yarrows’ blown kisses mend. Susan Ashley August 13, 2018 _________________________ *the Yarrow flower of any color (I chose pink..), as a fragrant herb of Venus, is symbolic in this poem as a loving healer of a broken heart*

Healing a Broken Heart

The bleeding sunset lingers on her mind
as night approaches and the sky goes dark.
Her soul is restless; how it craves to find
some words of comfort which could leave their mark,

erasing heartache etched in grooves of tears
on ice-cold marble where lost dreams now dwell,
relief imploring from the grasp of fear,
the twilight shadows full of doubts dispel.

The wind is conscious of her thoughts distraught;
it whispers softly, plays with her long hair,
diverts attention, brings her grief to naught...
A damsel’s heart fragmented he can’t bear.

Dense clouds are drifting and the moon slips by;
the joy of healing it will not deny.

Broken Heart, For Sale

I have always been alone
I have always been the lonely one
In the corner, quiet and silent
Inside of dreams to come

So with determination
I build and build and build
Possessions compounding
Wealth is the only scorecard I know

Now, it’s amassed, and I have it all
So with pride and confidence
I do what anyone should
I must purchase a possession of my desire

I read in the paper of a sale very fine
A Garage sale of many old antiques divine
Within it all is treasure so very deep
A broken heart of golden hopes

I am not sure how one goes about
Such a purchase, of infinite value
I am succumbed with depression and sadness
For all my wealth

I have not the currency to buy this heart
So I burned my money that very night
I learned, there is another currency of delight
I wrote words and music and poetic verse

My Snow White she refuses to awake
Even my heart at the bone it shakes
Vaso the empty vessel of life
Learned there is no currencies at all

To acquire a broken heart

Whispers of Your Soul

I wanted to hear your whisper
Yet I could only hear you shout
Your soul filled with all it's turmoil
Filled my own heart with so much doubt

By holding tightly to our pain
Silence became extremely loud
The softer notes within reason
Couldn't be heard above our proud

Were we lovers of the darkness
Cutting through silence with our knives
Shredding perceived insecurities
In hopes of saving our own lives

Some dances were not meant to be
I heard the anguish in your voice
You took a walk, didn't look back
Loving another was your choice

Then I heard a different whisper
Bubble up, from inside of me
Lessons learned, from a broken heart
Meant freedom from insanity

Newborn Flowers

A broken heart
who humbly cries
As the flames began melting
tears hidden under the seabed

Sizzling hot a trail
sparkles into the night sky
love comes in colors
that kisses burn passion

Following your starlight flooding
memories are forever made pure
Even if you are not here
I can feel your warm breath

Winking to the soul dream of dreams
Together we can build a future palace
one without fear and pain
Destiny will be eternities shooting arrow

Catching many rainbow on our roads path
Cupid strikes flying saucers land in your space
wondering if things will ever be the same again
Captivating an angel strums tugging heartstrings

Do you hear still the melody
to the most beautiful song playing
Warmly exploring deeply touching tunes
Covering the bed with rose petals

Music plays a heartfelt chant sighs
I miss you dearest flower forever more
just like the desert misses rain
Whispers held on a cloud of breath beautiful

Words left Unsaid

Words left unsaid as teardrops fell
The price of love, their hearts would tell
And so they parted, love took flight
And left their hearts to lonely nights
Each unable to break loves spell

Distant sound of the old church bell
Rang through seasons they knew so well
Winter to spring, summer shone bright
 Words left unsaid

Each had a broken heart to sell
As fire within they tried to quell
 Memories fade in Luna's light
Stars wished upon twinkle in sight
 Love's distant star, flickers farewell
 Words left unsaid

''Poetic Dances''

From my very beginnings I have been, Like no other- I have lived in a dream; The joy in life sadly I have not seen, Yet my soul is like a cool forest stream. My writing are fragments- I have taken, From a broken heart that weeps a poem; For each sad sorrow, each I awaken, My life is writing- poetry my home. As a grown woman I am a cool dawn, But there is thunder in my soul- a storm; And with my bleeding pen the words are drawn, Each new line will take on its own sweet form. My nights are dreams and my days are trances, And I spin and weave poetic dances. ____________________ August 19, 2016 Poetry/Sonnet/"Poetic Dances" Copyright Protected, ID 16-819-491-0 All Rights Reserved. The Hanging

The jury was unanimous
Twelve cried out justice
Guilty
It was just before the changing hour
The hanging planned for quarter past midnight or so
The moon was full, the shining light exposing deaths dance
The grim reaper was ready, one more for his collection

I was ready for this moment
Ready to face my freedom and my death
Long ago, a mirror shattered into twelve pieces
Twelve faces who said I have to go
Twelve past the midnight hour

Sacred ghosts haunting twilight hours
Whiskey filling the soul soon to be departed
The hangman at the ready with a somber face
For his duties he did not so much embrace
This evening he knew the hanging would take all effort
Of spirit and determination
To send this one of to his eternal damnation

He was shivering and I sensed in fear
As I stared at him solemnly in the mirror
We both eye to eye knew this day would come
The hangman and me, conscious of the sum

So the note was neatly written
The whiskey bottle all alone, empty on the floor
I stood bravely or maybe cowardly
Upon the wooden chair

The rope I wrapped around I my neck
As the hangman in the mirror was in despair
I patted him on the back and said no worries my friend
This, you see is the end of it all
All that we ever both wished or dreamed

A week or two later
They found the hangman
A rope around his neck
Staring blanking in the mirror

A note on the bedside table
Told this story as you hear
A man with a broken heart
Hanged because of his own mutilated reflection

The Rose and the Thorn

I shall nay know all the wonders - you hold
For all too soon the winds of winter blow
Scarlet petals withering in the snow
How cruel the breath that kills the velvet rose

Tears - that canst’ bear the thought of letting go
Forever frozen in this empty soul
A broken heart forever turned to stone
A broken stem left now to stand alone

Alas! I find that life is bitter-sweet
As I stand holding only memories
Of a rose blooming in the summer breeze
Here beneath this old weeping willow tree

Once I held the sweetest rose - ever born
Now – in my grief – I hold the bitter thorn.

Love In My Twenties

Thinking back to my teenage years
my early twenties, falling in love
was so easy.

Truth was a tightrope
of winks and smiles,
of the promise of tomorrow
and today was just fine.

Youth
in its wondrous ignorance
sees art were cans of paint
on a cloth of filth has spilt.

Poetry with a guitar,

the weed that drove
us to the depths of revelations.

Dreams that lived in an endless
stream of contradictions.

The Bee Gees asked
 "How do you mend
a broken heart?"

Oh the broken hearts
I survived with all its drama.

The letters I would write.
She was Bunny
and I was Rab, short
for Rabbit.

Bunny,

“Hearts heal, but your walk
loses a step or two, it loses its flare.

I miss you so much I just want to die!
What happened to us?

It boggles my mind how easily
you let go of US!

Tears flow as I write.
I guess I will survive
but as so much less than I was!

I love you with every beat that is me,
with every drop of blood that I have.

I am only half.
Without you there is no I.

Say Goodbye to who we were for me.
Say it one last time.

Say Goodbye to every part of you
that I will never touch again.

I let you fly and you never came back.
You were never mine.”

Rab!

Of course I would never send it.
Within days I would be dipping
the little redhead’s pigtail in ink.

Those were the days my friend
we thought they would never end.

That was love way back then.
You would climb a mountain with
your bare hands, change your mind
and ride the crest of a wave you caught.

Who knew way back then
in the throes of my anguish,
in the pain of my lost loves,
who knew how grand it was
to be young and in love.

Can you taste Black Cat Gum in the air
it is the perfume of our youth, God Bless!

The Poet

The Poet

Tribute to
Tim Smith @ Poetrysoup.com

Seeking inspiration
in the darkness of the night.
He listens to the shadows
to give him words to write.

A longing somewhere in the wind
a broken heart cries out.
It's captured his attention,
now's not the time to doubt.

He listens to a love gone wrong
he hears the teardrops fall.
Still he cannot turn away
until he's heard it all.

It speaks to him of anguish
and of a broken will.
He feels a soul begin to bleed
but he listens still.

When silence again finds him
in the shadows of the night.
He speaks for the voiceless
within the words he'll write.

Sending hope and faith and love
on wings of butterflies.
He reaches out to broken souls
then he helps them rise.

For deep inside he holds a key
though many may not know it.
The way to mend a broken heart
is the heart inside the poet.

Tattoo of a Broken Heart

It’s raining in the corner
Stripes upon the floor
Bloody knife in a barroom door
Drinking whiskey
From a hollowed out gourd
Full of wasps
That rage in my core
Old man Mason
Got a smile upon his face
He knows the fire
And now I got a taste
Can’t stand up
Can’t lie down
Spinning room
Going round and round
Lipstick so red and thick
Devils eyes are on my hip
Right hand of the devil
Is a handgun son
I’m shooting dice
I’m shooting everyone
Woke up in a Philippine jail
I’ll sail for Hong Kong
Once I make my bail
They’ll never find me
The only evidence to tell
Is a tattoo of a broken heart
And a rusty nail

A broken heart away

She was my first love until it ended
It would last forever I believed
Was it the childish words that so offended
Or were we by our youth just being deceived.
I couldn't do a thing to stop you leaving
Though I remember hoping you would stay
but the final words I spoke I still believe in
I will never be more than a broken heart away.

The memories of that love are still with me
Loving feelings in my heart are tightly cleft
All around me I see a beautiful history
Reminders of our love before you left.
Ornaments and pictures on the mantle
Each a memory I can touch
I have even saved all the scented candles
and the bible pressed rose you loved so much.

Now I'm hearing your new man has betrayed you
I heard he hit you and you lived a life of hell
You now know not a word he spoke has proven true
Since the day he first cast his evil spell.
I'm told you would come back if I asked you
Nevermore would you feel the need to stray
This time it would be forever and you'll be true
and you are only a broken heart away .

My friendship is there if you should need me
My shoulder is yours if you wish to cry
All I own is given to you freely
but I'm afraid my love I cannot lie
My broken heart has now mended
Though scarred by the bitter years of pain
What we shared has truly ended
I just cannot put my heart through that again ,

Atonement

Should I take the dagger that my heart tore
and use it to avenge the pain it caused?
Or should I bow my head and keep in store,
the obsession of life’s dreams once more paused.

I, undeserving of your resentment,
wherefore my words echoed kindness intense,
in past fondness for future‘s atonement
lest it reveal my soul to your pretense.

Foolishly I opened my heart to you,
expecting to relinguish love yet born,
unwittingly my own destruction woo,
to inflict pain through the wrath of love’s scorn.

I cannot feel anger to act in spite,
with a broken heart I bow to your might.

Regret

                               Regret….

I flew once in a field, full of flowers,
a field that was kissed by April showers.
I tasted all the jasmines, as sweet as new,
I did bathe on a leaf in a little dew.
I was busy playing till the midnight,
I woke up and I was not sure of my sight.
I was a bird soaring as high as a hawk.
Flying like a wind, with wind had a talk.
I turned into a wind, and then to a cloud,
A dark and dim cloud that thundering loud.
I turned into the rain, after being cloud,
quenching the deserts with silvery shroud.
I turned into river, and then to a sea,
although, I was water, I learned how to see.
I turned into a fish perfectly aware,
knowing that my lover is surely out there.
Swimming like a fish, my world became cold,
I lost my will to live, too soon grown old.
I heard a nightingale calling me at night,
telling me, being a man, it could be alright.
I turned into a man, in search of wisdom,
hoping that love and peace, ruling the kingdom.
A lot of years have passed, with a broken heart,
I could not find the peace, I need a new start.
I will change back again, to look for my love;
maybe a lamb or sheep, maybe a white dove.
I will look everywhere, until it is found.
I know it’s there for me, if I look around.
Until then I’ll become laughter to a child,
or maybe dandelion who grow wild.

A Wounded Heart

It’s like a room you sweep and can never get all the dirt out.
Like an important message you can never understand, no matter how loud they shout.
It’s like life that repeats itself over and over again,
When it’s wounded there is no cure.
So why would you want to see it through to the end.

Like a scar you can barely see but you know that it’s there.
Like the memories you forgot yet scared to search elsewhere.
Some say it heals in time, I say no, for it never leaves the mind.
We yearn for happiness and rob ourselves blind,
you compromise and displease yourself to give a peace of mind,
and the moment something arises they neglect all the signs.

It’s like a race you start and can never complete.
It’s like walking into fire but you can’t even see it.
Everyone has a different story or a different blend,
but when something is broken, how can it be mend again?

I should’ve seen that you were trouble right from the start.
I’ve learned so many lessons. Like never to mess with a broken heart,
A future that bares the past requires much more than faith.
A heart that was once broken is fragile and is easier to break.

How Do You Make a Sick Heart Well?

Broken last night,
 I woke up
 Precious problem,
 picking up
 every part.
I want to fix it.
This
I've tried to mend
by shooting it into my vein,
getting in and going,
by another lover,
carving the love into my skin,
by sleeping away
the black out.
Useless things are poison to the temple.
It’s either one cigarette after another,
or lots of chocolate,
the sad tale goes on and on.
But the fragile heart is broken.

What do I do?
They tell me to,
Rely on Thee
It's hard for me
I can't see,
Although I know
and have been very close before.
I was expelled from Hell, thank God.
Entered into the sunlight.

While the whole world
Is in agony.
I'm feeling happy,
my heart feels healed,
but this is a deception....
it is still broken.
Just like a peculiar disease,
there's no cure.

Fill it,
and deal with all its cuts and bruises...
but then all you have are scars. .
My medicine for the bleeding within...
Is to await love to call me,
and say that everything is ok. Not to despise my needs...

Inside, there is a little girl screaming.
And some times...there's an old lady whispering
that she is utterly tired, and can't bare it anymore.

Do you shut the door on your heart?
I can't seem to do it.
It's too powerful and pure,
this instrument that passionately pounds within me.
All its pain...
I have no control.

Creatures
Do you have a broken heart?
Do you have a heart at all?

Music For You P.S. (adult content)

Music comforts the soul, cures that restless spirit.
Some songs will make you crank up the volume so everyone can hear it....
Music can alter moods, and talk to you.
Some songs have the remedy for what you're going through....
Music is good medicine for a broken heart,
and yet some songs can turn around and tear it apart....Music has brought people all
around the world together;
And some melodies will keep playing on forever....
Music adds to the intensity of making love.
Fuels that fire, you can't seem to get enough of....
Music makes me sad, glad, happy and mad.
Some songs make me pick up a pen and pad....
Music makes me wanna pull a woman close, kiss her nose, remove her clothes,
       suck her toes,
And with Janet Jackson still singing "That's the Way Love Goes;"
Me and her make our own music video until her sweet nectar overflows!!!!!

Note: To my fav. soupers, I don't know your preferred genre of music and sometimes age
plays a huge role in a persons tastes in music. Since I don't know everyone's age, I'm going
by gut feeling and the personalities I read on my comments and my soupmail. If you guys
download music; I've written one song for the following people. A song from me to you, so

Count

I used to count the years, the months
The days, the hours
The minutes, even the seconds
Since the last time we spoke

I remember the moment I looked
Into your green eyes,
Pupils expanding,
The light shining down on you,
Below your eyelashes—the prettiest glare
Those eye contacts off-centered...
Plastics never quite fit you,
Just as I never did. .

Hope has a funny way of fleeing
Even when time ticks mercilessly on
And truth is never beautiful
When the mouth runs dry
And the eyes go blind

I used to count the years, the months,
The days, the hours,
The minutes, even the seconds….

You said,
“You actually understand me. . .”
And your intense amusement watered your eyes
It wasn’t until I started counting that
You stopped seeing me for who I was
You stopped understanding. . .
You never quite understood.

My grave mistake was waiting
For every last second
To matter
Was hoping,
That every moment without you
Would count forever
But no one counts the tears
No one counts the beats of a broken heart

Like A Ghost

Deep within the darkened halls of my mind I search each memory of love not meant to be.

Where love shone bright but now has left only tattered webs of pain and sorrow for me.

Lost and left behind to wander aimlessly, to feel the viperous sting of what once was, now no more.

To know of love's beauty and tenderness and passion between two hearts and all scars that it bore.

Like a ghost forever to wander these empty halls whaling for love's lost memories day and night.

Forgotten, forsaken this ghost with a broken heart, invisible, just an empty memory in plain sight.

In Winds of Sorrow

Steadfast are winds that begin as a gentle breeze,
ruffling waves as they rise over Earth's seven seas.
As quickly as zephyrs blow crested waves ashore,
time and circumstances alter our lives much more.

What was once a newly budded flower in Spring,
will oft' find itself plucked like a broken heart string.
Fragile blooms wither, their petals fall to the ground
but new buds will return and in beauty abound.

Lightning blinds us with mistakes we made in the past.
Thunder roars and clouds darken, but storms never last.
Though we may be blown off course in winds of sorrow,
the sun will rise at the dawn of each tomorrow.

Take hope in knowing that all bad things come to pass
and you will find that it is faith that fills your glass

I kissed another girl

(This is a fictional poem)

When I kissed another girl, word got back to you.
You slapped my face and told me that we're through.
Most kisses taste pretty sweet but that kiss was tart.
Now I'm all alone nursing a broken heart.
Kissing that girl was foolish and it was a mistake.
But I'll make it up to you no matter how long it takes.
I can't go on if our love is at an end.
If you'll take me back, I'll never look at another woman again.
You're the only woman who I want to be with.
So I'm on my knees begging you to forgive.

Can One Die from a Broken Heart

A girl met boy,
   it was early spring,
       she fell in love
             and blossoms flourished.
She did all the right things,
to please just him.

If birds twittered
   she flew into his arms,
made him love her in return.
      Times were when she thought
      they weren’t meant to be,
she wallowed in his embrace.

Trees grew, fruits formed,
   she smiled in contentment,
quelled her conscience with a smile.
She lost her heart.

As autumn came and trees
shed their rusty leaves.
    Still he made her smile.
        She believed in fairy tales.
        He made her laugh,
she believed in him.

He was her dream.
   The trees were bare,
   snow covered the ground.
   She left her home,
   knocked on his door
but he didn’t open it.

She stood there in the snow,
    her tears mingling with ice.
Can one die from broken heart?

Sometimes Sorry Is Not Good Enough

Maybe I hurt you and
Caused you to cry
I know the pain went deep
And this I won’t deny
I know I am to blame for
All your sleepless nights
The things that I said
I know it wasn't right

I never meant you any sorrow
And I never meant
 To make you cry
I am the cause of your pain
I accept all the blame
I called you cheap words
And a lot of other stuff
Sometimes saying I’m sorry
Just isn't good enough

Somehow I felt what you
Felt deep inside
So much hurt and pain
Like a reflection in your eyes
Every breath you took
Filled with deceit and sorrow
Maybe your forgiveness
Will come on tomorrow

I can’t expect you to push
This all away
Maybe another time,
Another hour in the day
If I could take the words back
That caused you to cry
I would do it in a heart beat
And you know it’s not a lie

Nothing I can say right now
Will keep your heart still
I’m sorry, I apologize for
The way I made you feel
Even a broken heart is
One that’s hard to mend
This will follow me
Until the very end
In your eyes I am the enemy
And you have to do what you must
But sometimes saying I’m sorry
Just isn't good enough
