Tattoo of a Broken Heart

It’s raining in the corner
Stripes upon the floor
Bloody knife in a barroom door
Drinking whiskey
From a hollowed out gourd
Full of wasps
That rage in my core
Old man Mason
Got a smile upon his face
He knows the fire
And now I got a taste
Can’t stand up
Can’t lie down
Spinning room
Going round and round
Lipstick so red and thick
Devils eyes are on my hip
Right hand of the devil
Is a handgun son
I’m shooting dice
I’m shooting everyone
Woke up in a Philippine jail
I’ll sail for Hong Kong
Once I make my bail
They’ll never find me
The only evidence to tell
Is a tattoo of a broken heart
And a rusty nail

We all have broken hearts. Some of us were them on our shoulder. Other tend to forget. But they all leave a story none of us forget. Kilmer

it is evident that you have not just amazed me with this particular composition. I am surprised at what pops into your head and just how eloquently you describe it all. I hope you had fun writing this as much as I had fun reading it. Cool imagery. Always, Laura

It was fun to write and I thank you for your too kind comments. What's crazy is I have lived most of this outrageous image. The devil inside is always trying to escape. ~Kilmer

As you can tell I have had a bit of experience with alcohol abuse and it's gotten me into some sticky situations. Some of them funny some of them not so much. Thanks for the great review it means a lot to me coming from a veteran poet as you. Love hearing from you!~Kilmer

Drunken frenzy, out of control, shooting up the place, going to jail. So many telling things come from tattoos. Your style of art imitates life so well :)

Stephen, wow! wow! This reminds me of a poem I wrote back in the day. Called "DEVIL'S HIDDEN RANCH" http://www.poetrysoup.com/poems_poets/poem_detail.aspx?ID=241303 in case you want to read the poem :-)~ It's about a man who murdered his wife, after he caught her cheating. The scenario is different. However it cries with demons! Okay Back To You. Thanks for the epic and tragic imagery. loving the poem. ~SKAT~

Yes I can see the parallels. Tequila or bourbon it's all about the same. I was thinking about how evil liquor is and the stupid things it makes you do. And then how easy society makes it to escape the evil because it is legal. Maybe I thought about it too much. Kilmer
