The Silence of a Broken Heart

The fear of losing you is real
It’s in the countless daily moments
Of a diagnosis still echoing in our ear
A verdict forever stuck in our throat

Maybe better to know but at what cost
Trying to keep illness at bay
Aggressive the counter attack
Life never to be the same

Dark thoughts still lurk uninvited
As sometimes your eyes tear up
With no detectable provocation
And in the hush of night when all is quiet

The silence seems unbearable
Within the shadow of a broken heart
So we strive to live each day
As though life is the gift it is

Very touching poem, my friend. I agree that knowing, you pack more into every possible second... but I also know that it's still very hard sometimes, and bittersweet. My prayers are ever with you. *hugs*

One would hope that more passion is packed into each minute as opposed to feeling like a powerless victim. Thank you so much for your lovely visit and comment, Sandra.

Heartfelt and so often true, sadly. "Life never to be the same Dark thoughts still lurk uninvited" - absolutely true.

We do strive to live that way. Though sometimes it's difficult to believe, even adversity has its up side.
