I first beheld her in a play;
The leading lady on that day.
And every entrance caused a stir.
In a play I first beheld her.
By curtain call I knew for sure
That I would love her evermore.
For me there was no doubt at all.

I kept the programme by my bed,
With her name underlined in red.
I vowed I would become a ham.

I joined next day the drama group,
To be a member of the troupe.
I thought she might be mine that way.

Despite my plans I’m on the shelf.
Her co-star has her to himself.
Last week, in church, they called the banns.
I’m on the shelf, despite my plans
Nervous, anxious, praying
my love I express.
Girlfriend blubbers saying
I’ll marry you - yes!
Parents very happy
we are getting wed,
Bridegroom joyful chappie
banns need to be read!
Joyful girlfriend smiling,
seals love with a kiss
Planning wedding styling
no longer a ‘miss’!
Booking summer wedding,
bridesmaid will wear blue,
blissful marriage heading
darling I love you!

Oh my darling the news is so bleak
I saw the consultant only last week
Perhaps we better start making plans
See the vicar; hear the wedding banns
All I’ve ever wanted was to be your wife
For better for worse, through trouble and strife
The consultant confirmed I’ll not last the year
Oh kiss me my darling; just hold me so near
Wedding plans float around in my head
My dying wish is that we should wed
Time's running out so we mustn’t linger
I need your wedding ring on my finger
A simple service, just as quiet as can be
All I ask my darling is that you stand by me
