We are admonished by guardians of civilization
to battle the enemy with due civil restraints
Yet with a nagging visceral realization
we know wars are not fought by saints
Rules of war shield all children from harm
disallowing rape and torture and pillage
soothing unease, assuaging alarm
reassuring every town, farm and village
Long ago Sherman warned us war is hell
as knowing heads bowed with grim words unspoken
Now lulled into another innocent naive spell
we learn again rules are meant to be broken

Hearing
my thoughts
I considered
again
Last chance
to refashion
What time
whittles thin
Word after
word
They pass by
in refrain
Assuaging my
doubts
Repeating
— my name

As the Cup Runneth Over
thirst
dire, immediate
pleading, despairing, compelling
newborns, world, pneuma, rivers
living, assuaging, redeeming
quenched, blessed
wellspring

Oh, shower me with your lyrical prose.
Set it to reach my pores—life is on scale of rose
Send me the light of a thousand stars.
An eerie enigma lies below—what induced scars?
Assuaging the senses with that charm.
As royalty in a red silk gown—my heart is warm.
Being lonesome is not a permanent state
Despite what the body may lead us to hate,
We are on a road that leads to nowhere
Yet, it provides continuous rebirth to bear
All we have are our words and memory
Friends and trip peers, heart as gentle be
Feeling lonely is only a state of mind
This is a factor one can cherish or find.
The vastness of the sky is still there.
A steady display of how we fit and share.

Nostalgic of my Mom’s death…
… almost two decades ago…
then of my Dad’s demise---
--- in 2019---
here am I gripped with blest serenity
knowing that they both are with the Creator
by virtue of their faith in the Saviour
Who promised wondrous eternal life
to those that put their trust in Him---
the Way, the Truth, the Life.
Reminiscing those agonizing moments…
here am I thankful to God
for assuaging the afflicting pain
I had to battle with:
grief, separation-anxiety, loss.
Looking back…
here am I, having moved on
cognizant that death is a reality
to face with courage
an inevitability to expect midst hope
since it is just a temporal goodbye
along “till we meet again” blissful reunion.
Today…
here am I striving to empathize earnestly
prayerfully sympathizing with the bereaved
testifying that death is a divine milestone
affirming this Scripture’s truth:*
“We are confident, I say, and willing rather
to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.”
*2Corinthians 5:8

You hang there on the rise of dawn
Bending twigs where you cling,
Glistening gems on sunlit lawn,
Where I greet you before you're gone,
Before my passions forlorn ding
While you gleam rays of spring.
How long dear will you glint and glow
Upon vibrant realm green,
My heart and I would like to know
For zephyrs of west will soon blow
To dethrone you from where you preen;
Oh! force of gale is mean.
How ardent you paint golden morn
Blushing on canvas gray;
Glinting rays my sight you adorn,
Assuaging grievous yore lovelorn
As verdant limbs gentle winds sway
Waltzing with lucent day.
Time has risen to bid goodbye,
Yet, you flinch, loath to part,
As sun paints arc in gamboge dye
When a fervent tear sparks your eye,
Heartening warmth love-vibes impart
Vowing to cure my heart.

so we scavenge, so we scrabble
we sift through detritus of pathetic little histories,
we search, we yearn,
for more, for something worthwhile,
for something good, epithanitic...
but we fail, we succeed only doing
ourselves the harm we so richly deserve in the hereafter,
we stop, we stare,
transfixed, by rage,
by fire bathing our souls,
this hellish dousing, cleanse, rinse-repeat...
and should some poor soul hum this ditty,
then fulfilled my ambition be...
the thorn, the crucify-tree...
and we rant on, seeing no saving
from the powers, the shadow-cloaked habits of wisdom,
assuring, assuaging,
that good, that divine care,
will save our silly souls...
but time, hard experience
has long since taught us truths bathed in the now,
we laugh, we cry,
given over, in total,
to the reality of this life,
and the fire that cleanses, rinse-repeat...
and should another man sing this song,
then laughing, putrid my soul is free...
the thorn, the crucify-tree...

Among mankind's best—
Brave, courageous
Heroes who do no harm
Assuaging our fear
With fellow feeling and care
Amidst viral strains' stealthy swarm
Among mankind's worst—
Mean, dastardly
Zeros who do know harm
Stoking pandemic fear
Scamming an unsuspecting ear
With a smiling swindler's charm
Heroes and Zeros
Best and worst of mankind—
What a dichotomy!
We'll keep hoping instead
For a bright future ahead
Daily coping with anxiety

This strangeness can seem
so insidious and violating
Glaring at a stricken life
while assuaging
a broken lense and its tense beam
Streams peter and crawl
silently
beside intended tears
Friends till the last embrace
when the bough broke
Learning endures my trust
Each baleful of insight
ignites a trail
where something burns,
and another arises
But this summer does in deference to its blaze
require some rest,
its master, another day

LOVE POTION
Love is the power peerless to impress.
Magical healing of solemn love potion
softening assuaging in distress.
Shower of love in delicate decoction,
foregoing ego on love and affection.
Love is the elixir of deep scar to cure
acting as concoction if love is pure.

SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY
cool wind and red souls —
the passion-keepers
of the Superbowl
couples under warm blankets
converse about commercials
thumbs up and thumbs down
inside company pokes holes
into the crackling wood
of Southern hospitality
though none can claim
this as their birthplace
we cover North, West
and Palestine. Sings Gladys
with honor and respect
the National Anthem
hands over hearts, relishing
the antique still relevant
in lovely raiment —
at least to us oldtimers
beings of not the current
generational habits
halftime cursings
beeped out, entertainment
pleasant to those
forty some years
and below
blurrish words understood
like morse code to the youth
my mouth contentious
settle it down
with black forest dessert
where buffalo roam
in chocolate form
still assuaging our team
with handless cameras
and all things red, white, blue
who knows who won
perhaps someone will boast
in pedantic poetica

Wave after wave of reverses
Upon my life rained
Although Bible verses
My heart craned and strained
To read
To divert
To knead
To insert
Into the dustbin of history
Which in the pain served a cathartic purpose
As in empathy and sympathy my story
It did endorse
To keep my bearing on an even keel
Assuaging my pain
Endeavouring to kill
The despair I felt in the rain
As the full horror
Of the betrayal he committed
In the context of the egregious error
He admitted
Into the love I felt he gave
In full measure
I could no longer save
From the ephemeral pleasure
I felt he pretended unto me
To offer
Cos for once my way clear I could see in the blues sea
Where I could no longer suffer
As a doting wife
Whom he took for granted
To rain wave upon wave of strife
Although I dare say for good reasons I sometimes ranted.

In wonder assuaging beauty thirst
Dip hearts in oceans
In motion but beauty is!
A soul's crave never appeased.

Assuaging our thirst drives us in from the street,
shoppping fatigued; a welcome retreat
as a menu of delights rewards us with tea,
Black Yunnan for you and Silver Tips for me.
Smooth liquid sunshine kisses Ruby Woo lips,
puckered to perfection; taking delicate sips,
savouring the euphotic zone where the flavour is mellow
deliciously steeped to an exquisite yellow.
Anecdotic tales shared in our corner recess,
chitchat and gossip; secrets we confess
over an exotic brew drunk from that porcelain chalice
precious moments imbibed at the Szechuan Palace.
