Anniversaries Poems | Examples

Premium Member Let The Lilies And The Roses Flourish

For crying out loud, the flowers are gorgeous,
Fresh, happy, young, alive, and vivacious.
Regrettably, we, humans, cut their lives short,
From time to time, from events to events.

For God’s sake, let the flowers live like the monuments,
Let them enjoy a long life, like the statues in the court.
Almost every event, like birthdays, weddings and anniversaries,
Is the end for those petals, which are sinking in past memories.

Even the funerals are not sympathetic to the beautiful lilies.
In lieu of flowers, why can’t they write beautiful poems,
Make memorable cards or fake flowers with dead leaves?

Let the flowers live in the garden, and plant them in the cemeteries,
In lieu of flowers, send meaningful poems that inspire dreams.
For crying out loud, please end the customary bereaves.

Years of triumph bliss
blest months midst functional weeks
optimized days wrought…

Grand events highlight faith-accomplishments
never deny sweet and painful moments
blended with loving zest
mixed well through gracious test
bringing out victorious fulfillments.

God be praised* and thanked for glorious life-building anniversaries.

*Psalm 145:3 Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.

October Anniversaries

OCTOBER

One is for Columbus, Two my Lady
This tropical place rattles memory --
Third cannot be memory of Autumn
The tropics dance to another rhythm

Yet where I am now, I choose happiness
New phones compress space; I see my Princess
The mind has its ways; we may love the heart
It will surprise, enthrall, tear one apart

How then to keep mindful and less with mind?
"Renew" it, said Paul, but no details I find
Reading between the lines, I feed my soul
Keeping thought-life, feelings, free-will, whole

Anniversaries may be happy and sad
Always, though, October colors me glad

Anniversaries and Such

Circled days
hide their faces
on the far side of the fridge.

Dates and reminders
clog the cyclic notches
on my prayer wheel.

Calendar dreams
wake up far too late.
Ducks fly across a fridge magnet.

I hear the distant quacking
of a missed anniversary
disappearing
over a dimming horizon.

Anniversaries and Such

It is time for the circled days
to hide their faces
on the far side of the fridge.

Dates and red letter reminders
clog the cyclic notches
on my prayer wheel.

The calendar dreams
always waking up too late

I recall how fish in a bowl
forget every seven seconds.

It helps, but date sharks
still hunt me down
when I mess up.

Premium Member Green Anniversaries

This is not a time for us
Facing these weeks of hospital walls
My knight now jousts an invisible foe
Shorn of hair, yet still he wears
Tubes of pain as proud as armor
With blood too pale, future too frail
No anniversary in candlelight
This year is measured in pills and applesauce
Doctor visits replacing road trips
To the salty sea beach, where he proposed
With a ring of delicate gold
All those years melting in florescent folds
Of bleached sheets and disposable gowns
Yet, every tide of fever, every ocean of nausea
Is one more wobbly step towards a tomorrow
Of recovered roses and kaleidoscope kisses
Where I believe, past this horizon's thin eve
In lush trees, green with anniversaries.

Anniversaries

Red letter days
give birth to each other
like pregnant goldfish.

Once again
the red circled hides its face
on the far side of the fridge.

Dates clog the cyclic notches
on my prayer wheel of anniversaries.

I hear an untimely cuckoo
in every paper window.

I need buttoned down numbers
that don't skid off
the expressway of things to remember
every time I see a squirrel.

You'Re One In a Million

Looking up in the sky
Nothing beats the beauty
The beauty that is up there
Looking at the stars
The moon and the sun
Nature on it's best
beauty that even words failed to explain
I've seen it before, even today
I've seen many pretty things on earth
nothing beats the beauty of those up there
But only one such beauty have I seen in you
Not only your physical being
But your soul as well
You're one in a million
Natural and beautiful
You're my light in the darkness
My star amongst the stars
You're the place I call home
You're my moonlight sky
The sounds of your voice
Differ not with those of river water
river water flowing from East to west
It sound so sweet like those of a water fall
You're so natural one can tell
You're one in a million
Nature on its best
A natural human being
If East may one day meet West
You will be the course of it
You're one in a million.
I once asked myself
"Does the princess of my heart exist? "
Whenever I ask myself this,
You're the one popping up into my mind.
You're my African Queen
You're a true nature
You're one in a million my love.

Wedding Anniversaries

Celebrating fifty years
since her wedding day;
knowing someday Mistress Death
will steal her love away.

Crying, trying to forget
making vows in church;
loving hubby was untrue
and left her in the lurch.
