My Amaryllis

I got an amaryllis bulb,
Which was a lovely gift.
I knew that when it flowered,
It would give my heart a lift.

For weeks, the stalk was growing,
Then some buds came into view.
Now there’s one amazing flower;
Soon, it seems, there will be two.

When I looked for information
About amaryllis care,
I discovered they can bloom each year
And it’s not even rare

For an amaryllis bulb to last
For 40 years, but still,
I don’t plan (as per my husband)
To include it in our will.

Red Lion Amaryllis
lips unfurled.
Pale Paperwhite

Boxed floral kisses.

Amaryllis

Actually two of them
Were bought
Though quickly one of them died

In a clearance shelf
At Target
to raise one never tried

The remaining bulb
for five or six years
In varying stages of life

Almost succeeding
In doing it in
by horticulture most blithe

On the porch last summer it
put on two leaves
that were propped up lest they break

In the fall
In a makeshift Greenhouse
to see how much more it could take

Was not prepared for the
hidden surprise
All its deprivation had wrought

Two blossoms
The size of dessert plates
bold red,my breath it caught.

Never give up
Never say die
however feebly continue to try

The fruits of
Your labors may supersede
What your expectations belie.

Amaryllis a tall slender stem,
reminds me of a model,
topped with a beautiful face.
A symbol of strength and
determination.
Began from a tiny bulb,
humble beginnings.
With tender loving care
grows into a beauty inside
and out.

Godmother fashioned the most gorgeous crown for Amaryllis’ head.
Bronze, blush, butterscotch, eggshell, mango with hints of red.
Her friend said, “blush, mauve, opal, peach, sand, and seashell.”
Amaryllis Elf noted then that these colors were represented as well.
She had never noticed the plethora of colors amaryllis could hold.
Although the fruity exotic fragrance of this plant could never get old.
Amaryllis dove into the flowers and giggled with her favorite elf king.
The next day the violets, cone flowers and lilies gave out a big sing.
And Amaryllis ended up wearing a new diamond ring.

Amaryllis Rising

Planted too late in the season
they missed the beauty of the Christmas rush
when evergreens, mistletoe and hollies blushed
but now, with a little soil, water, warm sun hookup
the amaryllis stretches high and up,
tall and gangly, lank and lean
but on sturdy thick shoots, light green
they grow
 with a two-foot-high chapeau
and the buds open slow and precise
 eluting an aromatic spice
beauty, grace and petals galore
 trumpeters shadow the sunroom floor
and with a scent of sweetened flavors
 bloom the amaryllis' lovingly savored.

O BELLADONNA AMARYLLIS!

Lovely petals in bloom
A bride and a groom
A honeysuckle room
a tiny seed

Gathering the sheaves
Greenback leaves
For her folded sleeves
a watered seed

Rosewater wife
Healthy strife
A perfect life
a split pea

A former bach*
Time tick tock
Pregnant frock
naked ladies breathe

Amaryllis

Amaryllis boasts,
Declaring her love,
Conquests flaunted,
Prideful and beauty,
Tower above,
Look at me?
Deceivingly she calls,
Toxic and poisonous,
Voluptuous flower,
Her femme-fatale,
Expensive perfumes,
Seducing oils
Relaxing massages,
Into her blossom,
Splendour with elegance,
Her victims
Die!

Amaryllis

Splendid beauty accounts for her shape
Tall and fragile she stands within grace
Her heart blossoms timely with anticipation
As she gives privilege to those around her gate
Her aura always seen above ground
Silky is her hair flowing like passion in the night
Subtle creases amazing to touch
Every part her body accounted for as such
Her personality like petals in the rain
Bringing forth new steps to her life success
A woman of peace disguise in fashion
Mere splendor her beauties fragrance
Fragile her voice, with a tongue of ecstasy
Her season in life, echos like the wind

Premium Member I Am An Amaryllis

Hippeastrum is my proper Latin name
I am so spectacular I simply put others to shame

From a large bulb my green shoots will grow
I dwarf the other plants I love to be on show

With my elevated position I look down on other plants
They are tiny in comparison and look like little ants

When my tip emerges it contains my superior flower head
My blooms can live for three weeks yet other flowers are dead

I am the king of flowers I can produce three flower stem
My trumpets are enormous, people stand and gaze at them

I have no scent for you to smell when I am flowering
The intensity of my blooms would make it overpowering

Once I've finished blooming I deserve a two-month rest
Then I will re-flower for you and show the world I am the best!

Amaryllis Flower

Despite my ravishing hunger
I am ever so full
The barrage of rolling thunder
Joins the moaning of the ghoul

The sun is blocked by clouds
The fog obscures my sight
While my soul is filled with doubts
I refuse to see the light

But the sun peeks through and shines
Despite the tyrant storm
My amaryllis flower
Of my soul has just been born
