Aerie Poems

Premium MemberSteam Radiator

The radiator whispered like breath
beneath the old window
               (half opened for mercy)
where cold fingers of air
braided themselves with steam
and the snow stayed only for seconds
dancing above the sill
in the breeze.

The sofa, burgundy and bruised,
sagged like an old confession.
I curled into its velvet hush
and watched the cupola burn gold
(above the parking lot at dusk)
through the veil of falling snow.
This was my aerie,
thin-walled and tranquil,
where I painted, and read,
and wrote my way
into becoming.

Below, the café breathed
lentils and clove,
hippies hunched
at secondhand tables,
hands wrapped around chipped mugs
               (arguing softly about Hesse)
as incense tangled with the steam.
I read Siddhartha in the original,
while Han Fook waited in the margins,
quiet as smoke,
his silence teaching me
to listen without answers.

Premium MemberWhere is the frog

Stained glass marvel completed within six months
Delicate iridescent hues, light as a faerie’s veined wings
I am thunderstruck by my talents; this was my first attempt
Listening to others' comments, I glow and bask in glory
Lily pad magic, aerie and pretty. But where is the frog?

Aerolithic

(An interview with a skipping stone)

I’ll start at the beginning…I was born oppressed –
The weight o’ th’world upon me…I hardened under stress.
The dust from whence I came…’twas morph-ed into stone –
Then from those depths, upheavals…skyward I was thrown.
By winds and rains beweathered…the Fates, they wrested me
From my mountain aerie…torn down by gravity.
Immersed in turgid waters…sharp edges polished o’er –
Tumbled, tossed and battered…and washed up on the shore.
Petrified, immobile…aeons passed me by –
Until a hand me lifted…and taught me how to fly.

Premium MemberEternity

Eternity ensues to mount
from fertile vale above the mist.
Traverse the river past the turn.

Calm at the perpetual fount
and steady forth into the fist
of heady sun-struck silent burn.

Encounter rare beauty to count
and serenely sense heaven-kissed
soft, silent aerie space to yearn.

Drift in God’s righteous paramount,
true philosophic pantheist.
Sup of all tantamount to learn.

The universe is elegance.
Be within it with vigilance.

Amid the Sylvan Shade

******This poem had special appeal to me in that a friend had brought up that I had a talent for poetry and he encouraged me to write more. I was very proud of this piece, which was written at one of my 'hideaways' where I find inspiration; nature poetry or what some call 'nature erotica'. This poem was anthologized, which makes me feel rather fortunate, since a publisher requested it among many other poets and great poems. I think I finally 'saw' what my friend had after it was officially published*****

Amid the sylvan shade,

the footpaths teem with wooded laugh,

the sylph she giggles atop aerie slumber,

   tickled in soft-slender breeze;

   the nectar dews,

   meady-moss and carpet-leaves,

   juniper and berry-sweet breath

She sings amid the sylvan shade

nothing to do but sigh and dream

   her wanton-wistful way

The glade whispers wishes (weening)

   tempered hush,

echoed odes of faerie-tongue forgotten rhyme,

But for the meadow and vale,

   aerie eagle cries,

   none has come but I;

to sit and ponder, and listen -----

   homage,

   amid the sylvan shade

Eagles Mate For Life
Written: by Tom Wright

A pair of Bald Eagles at watch over aerie,
safe from predators except their own kind.
Any intrusion makes these birds wary,
but a simple fly by these two won’t mind.

They sit this moment guarding two eggs,
glaring intently at sky and water below.
Won’t be long now before a fledgling begs,
for a fish dinner that will see them grow.

Only 50% of fledglings survive the first year,
and they’re considered fortunate to be alive.
America’s national bird that can instill fear,
its message is only the strongest will survive.

Premium MemberA Big Fat Fairy

How is humor described in the dictionary
Am I considered a buffoon with a brain quite aerie
Do I have comedic talents
Or am I unhinged, unbalanced
Sure hope it doesn't turn out I'm a big fat fairy

Premium MemberSunrise

Hello daybreak, good gracious sunrise!
the many harbingers of life
seamless at the hems like satin threads
weaving carpets of morn's carousel rides…

fluffy,
fluted
and fiery.

This journey embedded by walks
where dewdrops upon toes
tickle on the grandeur of new dreams--
a magical discovery enshrined
on souls bathed in the brink of hope:

if your time is like mine
varnished as the radiant sunrise
hiding beneath aerie branches of hillsides
powerful yet gentle--
then sing with me,
till the light breaks into million auroral strobes
while baby clouds knight leaps of a heart
and smile at the fondle of twirling leaves.

Ring the bell for some minutes as a roulette
of glossed frames wend through an endless, sinless blaze…

slowly,
softly,
subtly.

Forgive me…..
		as my silent shadow
					…..stalks

						…….your city streets.

There is no malice
		      ……no evil
				…….no hidden desire
							….only hunger’s need

screeching…
		in a swaying
				…..tree top
					     …….aerie

flapping wobbly wings
			   ……imitating instinctual
						        …..necessity.

I cannot read
		…..the posters
				….nor shed a tear
						      ……nor feel your sadness

for time
	      ….has etched these needs
				               ……upon my wings

while you
	    ……have altered
			      ……..the environs
						…..of my hunt.

Forgive me……
		  as my silent shadow
					……stalks
						    …….your city streets.

Under the Killing Moon

I arrived tonight in
Gesthemane
With Stories to tell and
things to become
You, you remained
In vigil
Adrift in your aerie,
A bright laconic moon

I have come to drink
Deliberately
And take from you
Take the silence you offer
A Silent cup
To all who wander
With stories buried

Here in this garden
I wait in your reflection ,
under your umbrella
In wait for word
Of
Your
Blessing

word does not come
So I wander
through this garden
To the edge of the horizon
where water meets the night.
here, now, I see what
Faces me
Illuminated of the moon
Reflected back at me
Flesh and tendon are
Twisted and disfigured
In a monstrous frame
The bones of it frighten me
Awash in new light
Unable to tell if
I've been broken free by moonlight
or merely revealed

choices to be made
Freedom on my tongue
And the wind at my back
I remember that the night is cool
And the night is young
And so with rumours of what lies ahead spinning in my head,
I run
I run with
The forest behind me,
I run towards the fine horizon,
Thin and opaque

An Elementary Love

The sin of excess use does breed revulsion,
And rampant hollowness turns love to lust,
And ignorance outshouts the learned's repulsion,
And violent vitriol begets disgust.
My stomach palates not these corp'ral dungs,
My heart's emotions clot and freeze unused,
My reason's aerie 'voids their plaguing lungs,
My passion's seat's inflamed, their creeds eschewed.
But when I'm most imbalanced and unsettled,
My love for you recenters and restreams,
My organs chime with daily hymns re-mettled,
This fallen Earth with Sunday morn's redeemed.
                My elements align when loving you;
Their harmony resounds, naught can re-skew.

~Beautiful Faerie~
(Modern American Sonnet)

Beautiful Fairy! Beautiful Fairy!
Where are thee so very beautiful maid?
The day outside is turning so aerie
And all the light now it's nearing to fade

Beautiful Fairy! Beautiful Fairy!
With beautiful eyes the color of jade
And delicious lips the color of cherry
And a very sweet smile I can't evade

Beautiful Fairy! Beautiful fairy!
Without you the sky its becoming nightshade
Need find you again my beautiful fairy
You! The one, with the eyes the color of jade

Beautiful Fairy! Beautiful Fairy!
With sweet coral lips the color of cherry.
