To hold is to lay open the chest to cold air
two heartbeats learning their names without language.

Before the first word, a body read another.
The dance was always the hold.
Two spines disagree gently, without letting go.
Arms know what hands don't.

The angle of your shoulder: a measurement I carry.
Distance is not safety,
only loneliness given a cold name.

Winter morning, frost on glass:
I trace where your hand once was.
Grief, an embrace with nowhere left to open.

Gravity is want.
Mass draws all other mass near
not compulsion, but the oldest fact of things:
that to have weight is to matter to the world.
The moon tends toward the tide.
This is different from having no choice.

Some bodies have learned to be afraid of opening.
This does not make the opening wrong.
It makes the learning necessary first.

Your shoulder, at last
not a sound that can be named,
all the weight, set down
in the one place that knows how to hold it.

The arms don't say it.
They do it again.
This is the oldest language
the one that was already speaking
before we knew we had begun.

Lican

I’m ready for investing in some ballroom real estate.
The music starts at nine o’clock; we’ll get there half past eight.
Be sure to wear your sexy dress. I’ll wear my sexy pants.
The rooftop lounge is under glass; let’s go downtown and dance.

Listen to the magic of that Spanish guitar.
It can take us far and away
Swinging past the limits of the evening’s expanse,
Gliding through the night like in some gothic romance.

We’ll tango through the crowd like irresponsible gazelles.
Then sip some fine champagne and eat dark chocolate nonpareils.
If I may seduce you with a mischievous glance,
I’d like to take your hand and have us go downtown and dance.

Savor the abrazo as we caminata;
Abrida with your foot touching mine.
Ocho walking backwards when I make my advance.
Gancho as we tangle in a sensuous trance.

Now don’t expect ballet with arabesques and pirouettes.
I never met Gene Kelly; didn’t work with the Rockettes.
But I’ll never let you fall if you piernazo by chance.
So, my pretty senorita, let’s just go downtown and dance.

Tango

Will you dance with me?
a magnetic force in his laser gaze
tantalized her dizzying breath in adrenaline.
beats of heart, in songs of electrified music
beyond confines of milonga dance floor.
a spotlight opened a new heaven
and pranced a thrill of drunken vineyards.
A whole world of grief was left behind
as dreams germinated in her satin eyes.
holding his arms, face close to face
their eyes locked in each other.
time ricocheting fluid steps, a fast turn...
spinning a tango around his vertical axis
she could feel the tangy connection
rooted strong in curves of alignment
twirling in his machista, an alchemic mix
resonated as they leaned in abrazo.
joyous feet hooked in circles of promise.
silver shoes swayed in magic tango
Will you marry me ?
Cinderella waited for a fairytale end.

One swift move tempting
 sunburned curls to find
     a whole new place
     across her face
           around vanilla shoulders
dress clings to hips
purple arranged on pouting  lips,
     kohl around almond eyes
     calculating,
     investigating lustful look

                   ~~~~~~~~
           twirl,                          swirl,
     oh yes                        girl
 High heels tango,    abrazo,
hand on back,          barrida
 full stop...                 freno
   breathless                 hunger
       Tango.                       Castigada
Un Abrazo
Escribo porque hablar a veces no puedo
pues cuando lo intento me lleno de miedo
escribo porque mis palabras tienen mas efecto
transpasan toda barrera y llegan al centro
de tu corazón y comienzan a crecer dentro de ti
y a su tiempo dan fruto y te hacen feliz
escribo porque mis palabras te dan ese abrazo
el abrazo que no recibes del mismo que te toma de tu brazo
del que te dice que te ama pero no lo demuestra
escribo porque mi poesia muchas veces es tu respuesta
y aun cuando no escribo en ti estoy pensando
pues si suelto el lapiz es solo porque algo mejor estoy planiando
mis pensamientos en orden estoy plantando
solo para luego regresar con palabras que te estan enamorando
escribo no para mi sino para complacerte a ti
pues aun sin conocerte ya te has vuelto parte de mi
El Cuarto
Anoche volvistes hacer mia
y pude probar de tu manantial
infiltrandome dentro de ti como un espía
hasta encontrar tu punto especial
Las horas parecian volar
el tiempo se habia comvertido en mi enemigo
entre gotas de sudor escuchaba tu gritar
mientras que juntos nos quitabamos el frio
Una emoción llena de pasion ardiente
que hacia tu cuerpo estremecer
la manera en que me mirabas profundamente
era evidencia de aquel tremendo placer
Solo quedaron las sabanas mojadas
y el aroma de nuestro amor en el aire
un abrazo y cada quien a su morada
pues lo que pasó en aquel cuarto que no lo sepa nadie.
