Notes About The Poem

Love's Lament

She lovingly smiles at him each evening
dressed in palest silk, a gossamer gown,
brushed with hints of silverdust shadows.
Her shapely fullness casts a womanly glow
across his surface in ripples of light.

Enthralled by her shimmering beauty,
he waves to her from Baltic blue depths
of his longing and unspoken passion.
Her reflection swims in his crests and troughs
as he cradles the embodiment of her perfection.

Crested fingers rise to fondle her magnificence
but vast distance keeps them too far apart.
Her heart guides the ebbing and flowing
of his tides in their nightly dance, spent romancing.

Fluidly, he waltzes her in rhythm to the shore,
serenaded by a chorus of flickering stars
singing a tune written eons before
Gershwin could dream of Rhapsody in Blue.

Little more could either of them do as
their song wafted in a dolorous lover's lament
known by humans but perceived by few
as a divergent love between two of Earth's forces
whose liaison would be a tragedy for me and you

A stunning, breathtakingly beautiful poem, Lin. The poetic lines are so well grafted together, seamless weaving of linguistic tapestry and thematic content. Your prodigious poetic talent on full blast once again. I love the line ... as their song wafted in a dolorous lover's lament. How could I not love it, since my wife's name is Delores. Simply supernova is this stellar write. Kudos on POTD. Love and more love always.

Wow Lin! You've out-done yourself with this one. I will exercise my right to save this as a favorite if you don't mind. I will never sit on the beach in the moon light again without thinking of this beautiful love story. Congrats and Well Done!

I applaud your right to select it as a favorite, and it's I who thank you for the terrific comments, Dean. More often there is poetry written about the unrequited love between sun and moon, and I've even posted one some time back. But I find the romance between moon and sea more sorrowful because they can see each other...but not touch.

A tango is more fevered than a waltz. Imagine how overheated the sea would be if they'd tango! Thank you for liking this one, Tim.
