A Lesson to Learn from Christ and the Adulterous Woman

  John 8:7-11
"But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.

At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. Jesus straightened up and asked her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?"

 "No one, sir," she said.
"Then neither do I condemn you," Jesus declared. "Go now and leave your life of sin."

There is an amazing lesson to be learned in Christ's interaction with this woman. I have found this to be one of the most influential passages on how to respond to my past, and more on to my future.

Verse 11 is the most poignant verse in this testimony of Christ. His last statement to her is "Go now and leave your life of sin." There is not any statement of "Go, beat yourself over you mistake, and then leave your life of sin," or "Go, focus on your past and dwell in your wrong doings, and then leave your life of sin." It is a simple statement with a powerful message. "Leave your life of sin." Leaving your life of sin does include repenting (Luke 15:7).

Once you have repented move on! Focus on God - leave your life of sin. Just as the father accepted his prodigal son (Luke: 15:11-32), so will God accept his fallen children. We are meant to be beautiful, pure, and loved by God, and what better way then to not look back at what we were, but to look forward at what God is making us into, a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17).

The Alduterous Woman

She stood by his side,
trying to hide,
from the stones meant for her,
they were meant for her to die.
He kept his ground,
looked the mob in their eyes,
claimed they had no right,
to take her life.
He wrote in the sand,
words that we do not know,
and claimed to the crowd,
"He who has no sin,
cast the first stone."
One by one the crowd dispersed,
the oldest left first,
leaving the man,
and the woman who stood by his side.
He told her she is not condemned,
forgiveness was his plan,
and declared for her to leave her life of sin.

I am the woman,
of this story we know.
I have cheated on my lover,
my God that loves me so.
I wandered towards everything else,
gave up my soul,
and waited to be judged,
ready to be stoned.
He opened up his arms,
and said dear you are loved.
And that's when I realized,
I can leave this life I lived.

I find it very hard to believe that you've only received one comment on this incredible blog. So true are your words. Most people choose to punish themselves with their past rather than repent and move forward. And in many cases, telling someone that you've accepted Christ as your Lord and savior is a joke because they can only focus on the life you've once lived. Beautiful blog! Beautiful poem! Please, keep writing!!

The world still has double standards for women. Jesus did not. I don't believe anyone should set themselves above God and sit in judgement of their fellow man. God knows I've made enough mistakes in my life and still do. What I advise the kids I work with is to get up in the morning, look in the mirror and be proud of that person looking back at you. Have a wonderful dat, Betty. Vince
