Welcome to my page!

I am a man of many interests - TOO many, I think, lol - and because of that I never gave writing the attention I should have when I was young. I started writing poetry in December of 2016, and joined Poetry Soup at the same time. I am currently working on an R&B/Soul album for a major label, so, as has usually been the case, poetry does not get the time I'd like to give it, (though I plan to change that in the future, and write a book-or-two, a sci-fi novel and an autobiography) ...

I like to incorporate classic styles and phrasing into a modern frame when I write poetry, and try to cover a wide range of genres, but I enjoy the darkly sensual the most, despite its limited audience. I hope you'll give my rather unusual style a chance, read a piece-or-two, and leave a comment, if you'd be so kind. I also hope you'll visit my music web site as well, (at the following address under my moniker "Bahku") - mostly (very) old recordings there, but also a snippet of the first single coming, and more new stuff soon!

Thanks for stopping by my page - blessings!

SPINDRIFT

how proper that I found you for
      my farewell, midst those dunes
the sands where I did oft' adore
your flesh, daubed by the moon

o numberless, the softened eves
      those callow hearts would wend
         but promises quite often grieve
and swift, would come their end

to press my kiss upon your eye
      dove cheek, soft placed a-palm
I bent to meet your sullen sigh
   so breathed for kindness' calm

devoutly yours, my self, entire
the draught to draw your wine
you yet devour'd me, eyes afire
   white-kneed, before your shrine

my blood as passion, let to be
the sweet sate for your thirst
a fiery flood you then set free
   a seed, consumed and cursed

o how's a laurel placed a-brow
this man, so chilled and damned
can bring such deed to thus avow
lost love, wrought on the sand

and tho' I wore a garland, brief
      so crowned, for summer's death
our love had withered as a leaf
   'midst autumn's flaming breath.

Your language is learned, your poetry eloquently afflicted. There exists an element of humble predation in your sentiment which seeks to justify your reverent passion for that which you love. This is poem is masterfully written, however, from my perspective, your line breaks are cognitively disruptive...J.A.B.

I greatly appreciate your kind words, Justin, and thank you so much for taking the time. I'm not sure I agree with your assessment of line breaks - it is merely the frame on the painting - but I will certainly give it some consideration, as there is another poet here who feels similar about indentation. Good poetry should be effective no matter how it is presented, (as our cognitive brain areas adjust to changes quite easily and effectively), but perhaps I am doing my work an injustice ... as I say, I will take your comment seriously, and appreciate your honesty more than you know, (it is a rare thing on social poetry sites). Blessings! :o)

Such classy writing, Greg. Your last name is so fitting because you remind me of the BARDS of old who wrote this way (even though many of them rhymed).
