Welcome to my page!

I am a man of many interests - TOO many, I think, lol - and because of that I never gave writing the attention I should have when I was young. I started writing poetry in December of 2016, and joined Poetry Soup at the same time. I am currently working on an R&B/Soul album for a major label, so, as has usually been the case, poetry does not get the time I'd like to give it, (though I plan to change that in the future, and write a book-or-two, a sci-fi novel and an autobiography) ...

I like to incorporate classic styles and phrasing into a modern frame when I write poetry, and try to cover a wide range of genres, but I enjoy the darkly sensual the most, despite its limited audience. I hope you'll give my rather unusual style a chance, read a piece-or-two, and leave a comment, if you'd be so kind. I also hope you'll visit my music web site as well, (at the following address under my moniker "Bahku") - mostly (very) old recordings there, but also a snippet of the first single coming, and more new stuff soon!

TO HEAL A VACANT HEAVEN

The gods awoke early that day,
For the sun had swallowed the moon
And left a ragged, gaping wound in the sky.
It bled darkness like cold oil,

Threatening to stain all that they had labored to create,
Not the least of which, humankind,
Had yet to suck a breath
Or betray its common senses.

What of Byzantium, they pondered?
The horizon still ached for sails,
But to weave an empty sky was doom,
Even for the regal bateaus of Valhalla.

Breach the canopy, they thought,
Sew the temporal seam with threads of divine intent ...
Net the stars like silver herring
And bind them to the gunwales en masse.

Grave the hulls on the cosmos,
And set the sextant to unholy dreams ...
The day be damned, it would end nonetheless,
And tomorrow would still come ... sail on!

Yes, betray their common senses indeed. A truly well spoken and written poem Greg. I thoroughly enjoyed.

Ha, 'betray' is correct - taking the oil out of the ground and putting it in the sky. I enjoyed reading your poem.

Robert Wyland- The great artist could certainly paint that scene with Heaven shining down on a beaming blue ocean and use your poem as sweet icing on the cake methinks.. God bless..

"Aye, make ready, full masts aloft. Sail on, into deep blissful dreams. Tomorrow 'tis time to be soft. Fill sails until they burst their seams. Damn Neptune and ocean's great swell. We are victims, oft doomed to Hell. Let the sleeping Gods slumber more. Make way for home and mother shores!" ..... Love the brilliant title and the magnificent verses. Great blog my friend.. Your poetry truly inspires....God bless....
