Gregory Richard Barden Biography

Welcome to my page!

I am a man of many interests - TOO many, I think, lol - and because of that I never gave writing the attention I should have when I was young. I started writing poetry in December of 2016, and joined Poetry Soup at the same time. I have a new book "Melancholy Moon" published by Wheelsong Books UK and I'm under contract for two more, the next (much darker) before Christmas. I am also currently working on an R&B/Soul album for a major label, so, as has usually been the case, poetry does not get the time I'd like to give it ...

I like to incorporate classic styles and phrasing into a modern frame when I write poetry, and try to cover a wide range of genres, but I enjoy the darkly sensual the most, despite its limited audience. I hope you'll give my rather unusual style a chance, read a piece-or-two, and leave a comment, if you'd be so kind. Hey Soupers -

It's awesome to return to Poetry Soup after a four-year absence - I've still kept my account open as I've been posting poems here during that time, but I haven't been a truly "active" member, and there are many of you that I've missed interacting with! Anyway, round one of 'Dazzle of the Deep Field' has been completed and only sixteen poems were close enough to the required form to move on, so this should be fun doing the final rounds. I wish people had messaged me with questions cuz the form is not as hard as it may seem - it's all about the rhythm and the primary key: the IAMBIC FOOT, meaning a soft (or un-stressed) syllable followed by a hard (or stressed syllable, with the first three lines having four iambic feet, and the last two having three-and-a-half, or simply cutting one syllable off the end. I hope the examples gave you a good idea of the tempo, cuz once you hear it in your head it becomes quite natural. Thank you for your marvelous entries, (those of you who actually attempted the form), there is some really wonderful content amidst them! Can't wait to post the winners, and it's great to be back in The Soup!!

Hey Richard! Thank you for saying hello! Yeah, I was noticing the new digs and avenues - some are pretty cool, and it’s good to know they’re improving the place regularly. Hey Brian - I replied to this yesterday, but today it’s gone, (very strange). Anyway … yes, I am just now finishing work on a new recording studio and will be back to music full-time very soon! I’m also finishing book two for Wheelsong Books UK and under contract for two more, and my new web site just launched with some press releases coming this week - very excited, this old man, lol.
