Welcome to my page!

I am a man of many interests - TOO many, I think, lol - and because of that I never gave writing the attention I should have when I was young. I started writing poetry in December of 2016, and joined Poetry Soup at the same time. I am currently working on an R&B/Soul album for a major label, so, as has usually been the case, poetry does not get the time I'd like to give it, (though I plan to change that in the future, and write a book-or-two, a sci-fi novel and an autobiography) ...

I like to incorporate classic styles and phrasing into a modern frame when I write poetry, and try to cover a wide range of genres, but I enjoy the darkly sensual the most, despite its limited audience. I hope you'll give my rather unusual style a chance, read a piece-or-two, and leave a comment, if you'd be so kind. I also hope you'll visit my music web site as well, (at the following address under my moniker "Bahku") - mostly (very) old recordings there, but also a snippet of the first single coming, and more new stuff soon!

FOOL OF A POET

                 FOOL OF A POET

the times I've been here, words in hand
          mind-sculpting verse of phrases, grand
that speak of that, the cruelest school
those moments, rife, I've played a fool ...

laid bare this soul, with one broad knife
sweet dreams of romance, love and life
my heart bled, staining some girl's feet
whose care for me was ne'er as sweet ...

and shared in poems for worlds to read
midst hopes they might just fill a need
while all I've done, with sheet and pen
is prove I'm that damned fool ... again ...

the deepest feelings - spilled for those
I loved and lost, who thumb their nose
at odes brought forth, or all such gems
so polished smooth with tears, for them ...

it's always me, this pining schmuck
that's tumbled down on lover's luck
               now writing chiseled stanzas, meant
for some fair lass whose love I spent ...

why won't the sweetest phrase impart
some love to make those longings start
for ME - this fool with one chance, slim ...
some sweet fool writes a poem ... for HIM.

As a friend told me long ago. To bow at the altar of poetry -one must be ready to suffer the spears and arrows cast ones way. Sadly some are cast with totally uncalled for venom and vengeance! While others chose silence because they envy so much another poet's massive talents. Romanticism seems to gather the most in regards to this. As baring ones heart and soul simply begs shots be fired by some. Sad but true- some poets despise love verses. God bless my friend.

Gary, my comment was an encapsulation of past history here and what I know and have seen. Let it be considered as being directly about those thus guilty and certainly not in regards to any comments made about this blog, or Gregory's poem. As it was expressed openly as my opinion of the dark state some few have in the past represented here. If you need more- please soupmail me. As I never fear speaking the truth that I know. God bless..

Robert, where is the venom and vengeance you speak of? All the comments I've read here are very appreciative of Gregory's poem.

One must ask this- Was Byron a fool? Or Keats or Shelley? Nay! Perhaps the real fool is the person rejecting and even attacking a poet for gifting of self to this too oft dark and savage world. For that poet gifting beauty, and that which the majority are fearful to ever say or reveal. The courage of a poet is in casting aside that shield. And doing so to give and engage in poetic fellowship, imho. God bless..

In amongst the self depreciating humour I sense you wear your heart very much on your sleeve in this fine write Greg. I read somewhere that Geoffrey Chaucer in some of his writings decreed the February feast of St. Valentinus to be related to the mating of birds. I blame him. :)

Wonderful! I’ve played the fool and written love poems for Him, were they tied up in ribbon, no they went in the bin... Belle

AWWW...is this a Valentine's day lament. No flowers, no chocolates, no luck. you have shared a subtle angst, a "manly" longing, and some great tongue in cheek humor here Greg.
