Problems with line length

Blog Posted by Barry Stebbings: 7/15/2016 4:26:00 PM

When I submitted my poem 'Why The Willow Weeps' I found that the line length on the submition page is different to that on my poems page. This creates havoc with wrap around and capitalisation. I wanted to write a rhyming narrative poem but this is imposible when the line length changes. Does anybody know the cause or solution?

Broken Wings is right. My poems are all long lines. You need to know where to cut off the line, or where to put a comma and start the next line below. Some will appear to wrap around in the 'submit poem box' and not be wrapped around in the poem lists 'member area.' Practice will help you know where to break the line, Good Luck.

Well there is no wrap around really, if you don't break it, there will be one continuous line a hundred miles long, it will look okay on the poem perhaps but if you try to print it you will see, one line going on and on, and if you enter it in a contest, it will be one long line, you have to break the line, break it near the end of the line allowance, in your case break it so you have space for your rhyming word without it going to the next line. It can be tricky but once you get the hang of it, you will see it is okay.

Thank you, Broken Wings, I will try that.

wish I could tell you, but I've noticed it too. One day I took a full hour trying to adjust a specialty poem to make it appear as it did at my files!!

Thank you, Andrea. I think Broken Wings may have the answer.
