June 5 Med...
To self: Today, be mindful of Purity.

What does it mean to be "pure in heart?"
Perfect? Mentally clean without sin?
Perhaps think of it as strictly internal, full of love and compassion. Think of people you know who reflect these traits. Think of people in the public eye who are pure in heart.
Were they perfect, without sin? ...No. Did they seek attention or recognition? ...No.
Did I see God in their character? ...Hmmm.
I think, yes.
Seek the pure in heart today. Reflect. Remember.
Maybe some will rub off. God knows.

Dementia
by D.A. Brooks
      ---
In her eyes I see, a faded memory
of days gone by, days awry.
Yet memories still, a life fulfilled
she held hope, cared to cope.
      ---
Hands so frail, but without fail
   she smiles, all the while.
For in her He dwells, without fail
   through purity.  ...Her security.
----------------------------------

"If you put a spoonful of salt in a cup of water it tastes very salty. If you put a spoonful of salt in a lake of fresh water the taste is still pure and clear. Peace comes when our hearts are open like the sky, vast as the ocean."
      - Jack Kornfield,
         The Art of Forgiveness

      ---
"It can rob her of her memory of things, of people or events, but it can't rob her purity. In fact perhaps, the purity grows."
      - D.A. Brooks,
         Being Mindful

Matthew 5:8...
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

To me “pure in heart” means true to one's self. And I think anyone that is truly true to one's self, that would mean they think of themselves as perfect. And that means to one's self, they would be without sin. And if they thought they were without sin, wouldn't they think they were (a) God? And wouldn't that mean anything they said or did would be, to them righteous? "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God" (in themselves?).

Interesting the ways we can look at things and then combine them to see a new way. I enjoy reading your blogs.

to do no other being harm, by your actions or thoughts , I see it as a buddhist trait or is it what's in your heart regardless of your beliefs

First, it depends on how God and pure are defined. From my fundamentalist POV, the purer the heart, the less premeditated sins. Even incidental sins will be less in frequency. Also, the more pure the heart, the more severe the punishment for premeditated sins, like with King David and what he did to Uriah. Not matter how pure the heart, temptation never stops stalking a person.

Frederic: as I have explained before, I write a daily blog to myself about being mindful that includes a poem that I also post. My blog has its roots on Facebook and WordPress. And I thought poetry soup would be a nice welcoming place as well. Except for two or three, it has been. Feel free to block me. It's very easy, and I don't mind. I appreciate your thoughts on the matter.

It's so strange that so many people have different ideas about their ending up points, Rob, and they all seem so passionate about those beliefs. It is going to be kind of awesome to just SEE where it all leads in the very end. (well, I am hoping it will be awesome. If it's not, I will simply be dead when it's all over.)

I wish I was not a fundamentalist, much easier to be something else, but as you know, my search led me here.

They are out there, but nobody is perfect and those who insist on trying to project a type of saintliness are only deceiving themselves and are apt to have breakdowns as they feel an overwhelming sense of failure. I have met some true earth angels, however, and have felt an awe at their spirit and the size of their hearts. I've also met the most cantankerous folks who seem full of the devil...but slowly, so slowly, they reveal their compassionate, generous natures and there inability to hurt a fly. I do not equate goodness with faith. I know faithful people who are cruel and spiteful. I've met atheists who are more moral and righteous than any Christian. Character is choice.

Jesus loves my big mouth. LOL... He also frequently tells me to shut up. He is doing so now. ;) Gotta fly.

I'm not even sure about that, Ruben. I've met some sanctimonious blowhards who generously give to the church, fill up the food bank and feed the poor and toss coins to the homeless. BUT they don't want drug addicts in the pews, refuse to talk to the homeless and judge those in shelters. To me, its deeper than a deed. Spirit? Intent? The heart?
