Always arrive last and leave first
Be present, but not the life of the party
Come bearing a gift for the hostess,
Don’t spill your drink on the sofa.
Eat the hors d’oevres sparingly
Forget not to thank profusely,
Give high praise to the caterer
Hear nothing you would repeat.
If you’re wondering, ask discreetly
Just pass up the drinks if you’re driving
Kindly don’t light up a smoke!
Look like you’re having fun
Make suitable gestures when conversing,
Never flirt with someone you don’t know
Only offer genuine compliments.
Practice your skills at entertaining small talk
Quietly slip away from boring groups,
Refuse requests to entertain the guests
Sandals, a definite no; loafers are casual,
Take some time with everyone present
Understand the social pecking order.
Visit the bathroom only once, if necessary
Watch your language, and,
(E)Xpect to commit one faux pas
You were invited, you are important

A young lady named Betty Young
Had trouble controlling her tongue
Whenever she spoke
Attempting a joke
She used nasty zingers that stung
A helpful friend gave her advice
“Before you say something, think twice
Reject what is acid
And choose what is placid
And stick to a tone that is nice.”

I wrapped a red ribbon on my finger!
Stunned me to go thousands
of poems back, I had penned.
To discover some dazzling zingers.
I realized I lost something satiny soft.
Like a diamond ring that is
far beyond cost.
I got lost in the poetry form.
Thinking that was the way to please
others came first, for me, oh so wrong!
Use the hot, tempered blood of who is really me.
For another poet, I shall never be!

Verses flow from my brain like sudden zingers
While “Inventions” by Bach flow through my fingers
Sometimes one Muse will trample the Muse of the other
Sometimes, I go for a walk before I succumb to the smother.

Laughter's healthy, contagious, and brightens your day.
It's pun that's a groaner or joke that's risque.
It's a belly laugh, horse laugh, or laugh like a loon
At a comic strip. slapstick or clown or cartoon.
Laughter's chuckles and chortles, a snicker or snort.
It's a humorist's quip or a jester at court.
It's amusement that's droll or the last laugh that's best
Or a rib-tickler, knee-slapper, jape, or a jest.
Laughter's mirth and hilarity, wisecracks or wags.
It's a yuk or a cackle and zingers and gags.
You can giggle, guffaw, or can laugh up your sleeve,
Bust a gut, or with levity tension relieve.
Laughter's wit that's impromptu or monologue planned.
Its a sitcom with punchlines and laughter that's canned.
It's a pie in the face or a pratfall or prank
And comedian's laugh all the way to the bank.

ottava rima
A rambling riddle; hope you'll play along...
Fingers when I have played too much cello.
Head, neck and shoulders baked in sun too long;
Zingers by Hostess and cherry jello.
Used with blue and white, patriotic song;
singers’ roses but not Texas yellow.
Hot pink is like my second fiddle;
strawberries are a key to this riddle.

PEPPY PANORAMA
Doe eyed dusky beauty
Silky tress and milky dress
Exuding scent so fruity
She gazed at glorious tulips
Lovely hue, purplish blue
Kiss Planted with tender lips
She sat beside the limpid lake
Crystal clear, smiled with cheer
With her reflection she spake
She fondled a furry bunny
Fed it carrot tops and celery
It’s antics cute and funny
Din and disdain dissolved
In heart a rhapsody that lingers
Chaos and confusion absolved
It’s Canvas to receive new zingers!

Every now and again
When I forget to pretend
That I don't want to be more than just your friend
I can't help but hate
The way that you think
She is the woman of your dreams
Cause normally it's me
Who can't see the forest for the trees
But this time it's you, that's been deaf, dumb, and blind
Missing every cosmic sign
And I've grown weary
Which has forced me to pose this query
Would it be enough to change your mind
If I said this was our place in time
So with nothing but hope
I penned you this note
And if the answer is yes, I'll be at our spot until nine
Yet if you say no
I promise I'll go
However, allowing me to slip through your fingers
Is the worst of all zingers
Please be wiser than he
In Indiana Jones three
And my cup, will runneth over thee

Vacation comes but once per year
A real treat for my family and me
Condos and water parks fit just fine
American past times revisit again
The Myrtle Beach sky coaster is calling
Intentionally beckoning me to visit this year
Other days the zip line would be my great thrill
No more zip in my zingers, just lazy river floating
