Dearest Cousin Yolanda~
Ponderings on our days so very long ago,
When we were the stars of our parents’ lifelong show.
How proud they were to have us at their side!
We were precious and cared for, like angels with sweet smiles
I saw you blossom from a charming, sweet, little girl.
Your mother loved and cared for you, like an expensive, shiny pearl.
I see you as the same diamond child that you once so happily were.
Love,
Cousin Pangiota

My song goes like this
time after time I read bedtime stories
back then there were no worries
simple kids go to the store
big momma did her floors
pops cut all the boys hair
at the barbershop
snowballs in the summer time
wind mills in the wind
Italian ices on 18th street
Chicago style hotdogs
jew town polishes
Greek town old town
new town uptown
oh Lincoln park zoo
dreams of being the first black
Supreme Court Justice
I sing my song only after
the blues stopped playing
on Maxwell street

paint me a dream
as only you can
make me ponder
and wander the sands
create desire painstaking
endeavors heated
eaves dropping
on my thoughts
investing in my heart
again and again
gambling with fate
fancied by my nape
a chance meeting
crawling on gravel hot
tires backing over stones
lights blinding the sun
while my eyes
empties your mind

You captured me in your rapture
I'd craved your quiet thoughts
throughout the galaxy entering
the lost meeting of the minds
dangling on thee arch bishops
ropes of fine linen totally taken
my muse awakened my sorted
energies a rapture of meaningful
gestures hidden lessons keeping
the flesh at bay I suppose
I'd welcomed your company
this mere thought of you
cradled my minds eye
lifting me up to tomorrow
leaving absolutely nothing out
a faint whisper a tainted pout
cherubs doting harmonic rose
gently witnessing heavens prose

You entered my lair again
uninvited I suppose an yet
I welcomed your arousal
why you'd become quite
the trouble maker posing
as the Duke of Hungary
this mere thought of you
the sheer chanting hymns
glorified a selfish need
sorted comforting healing
wretchedness borrowed
yesterdays appetizers by noon
cackling awakened too soon
to withering morbid laughter
gripping a tainted silver spoon

why do I love you when all haste say's
that I shouldn't first there was rome
the way the sun danced behind me
over venice canals then there
was Kabul the hints
of the infamous mauve sky catering
to my thighs I could even see how
downtown munich bathed beneath me
an yet all I could envision is that day
that way we danced at Langley
how could our entire surroundings
become so bleakly crafted
above ancient tongues desire
of youthful follies why do I love you
let me count the ways
when everything is said
I guess I loved you more
when I thought you were dead
somewhere over Arlington road
meaningful gestures created
with karma and military orders
us sailing out to sea a quiet vessel
wearing my name on the backside of forever

The Voice(After the Yolanda Surge)
I never thought they would still
Be able to see light
After the squabbles, the surge, the darkness...
I heard of the waves that swerved like a car
Crashed and pounded the dwellings
Of poor desperate souls...
I heard their voices , their cries, their wailing
On that night of November...though I was not there...
I felt the pain, penetrating my bones,
Smashing my heart, tearing my being into pieces
Like shattered glasses...
Now, thank God,the world extends its hands
The globe listens and prays with them, with us,
There were those who have died in agony but
I'm sure they live among us still...
The survivors still wail, but give out a sigh of relief
Our brothers in the south and in the north have come for us...
And bring us hope that
Tomorrow...all will be well...and for that
We are grateful.

i stood over looking
the general view
of the bath of caracalla
evading sudatorium seduction
the church of st. cesarea
in palatio captured my thoughts
rather quickly i entered
sarcphagus of lucius scipio barbatus
dazed i was gently lifted
hovering above columbarium
of villa codini ah my human sufferage
unleashed near the arch of drusus
i found myself kneeling
beyond the gate of st. sebastian
how i'd remembered
the findings of the church
of domine quo vadis
welcoming of monks settled
deeply within catacombs
of st. callistus the fine
chapel of cornelius
the bishop winks at the sight
of cecilia's remains hisses of trickery
a covenant maderno's manner
lessons and arrows embedded
amids sebastians sculpture
ravished by greif
for giorgetti's finali catacombs
and tombs surrounding
my morbid energy force
abruptly backing right into
circus of mexentius shouting
metella metella open
the appian way
seneca's revealed
the tower of selce in ruins

gazing beyond
the chartered places
that dazzles my mind
beneath the braising
wonders of self
the mere wonders
of me arose under
the infamous sun

i'm brown in my color
i'm free in my mind
my spirit soars
my laughter roars
i'm not a ghost i'm the host
this is my fury
it taste of sweet curry
my stars are all in place
my head is pointed at the sun
i know i'm free to run
the joy of africa indeed
the sweet beginning of my colored seed
strong proud and beautiful i'll grow
the sun will shine the moon will glow
my heart feels like a child with toy
i know who i am and that's africa's joy

A replica of her father, Dr. King
Was she as a Child, a Pretty Young Thing
Who, later took Democracy, under her wing
As if She were a Marionette, led by a string
For, how She was sold on 'Letting Freedom Ring'
Because to the Struggle, She would cling
Like it was a Way of Life and Not a fling
Feeling from her father's Death, the sting
Of what Reality to his Dream would bring
Did She, into the heart of the Matter. spring
Successfully, taking on his Movement, a swing
And, then She left Us. with her Praises to sing
