After The Thunder

The sky a disruptive horizon
creating havoc in calm of evening
when electric thunder suddenly booms
  without notice from neutral evening.

The shrill of invasive pyrotechnics
frighten animals and children
in their near hour of slumber.

Flickers of quiet ensues against
 restless distress of the neighborhood.

Clouds begin to roll in steady flow,
that after the thunder, kids devour
pleasant bowls of strawberry yoghurt.

Yummy and tangy crème.
You eat it plain, or if
Your taste craves a sweet scheme –
Yes, add berries! Oh, I
Yearn for rich nuts, too!
Yoghurt makes taste buds sing.
Yowza, what a delight!

Premium MemberI Wish I Was a Bangladeshi Chef

I am handed a bottle of wine
I am told it's French and then, well, that's it

I offer my son another mint
He'll one day discover mint sauce

I'm drinking yoghurt out of a glass
I'm annoyed at the hotel buffet

The fried eggs have all gone
The chef can't keep up

I offer my services behind the counter
I hear the waiter changing his accent with different customers (again)

Love waffles
A bowl of stupid

Liquid breakfast
Eat my shorts

But there was man
Who wanted a statue of himself
In his hometown
On horseback
In the nude

Name a bus shelter after me

Premium MemberSmelling Delight In the Morning

Grateful to God* for deliverance from anosmia
I praise Him for the pleasant breath of life
midst jubilant smelling optimization
oozing with wondrous delights...

On a restful day of redolent vibrancy, my nose is greeted
by minty scent of my special child's shampoo
with citrus body wash along bubble gum-cologne
and refreshing baby powder after his bathing spree...

Oh, I enjoy the aroma of steamed breakfast rice
sizzling barbecue, creamy chicken-vegetable soup
with mango yoghurt while allowing hot chocolate
to blend with the smell of toasted bun midst peanut butter.

Concluding my morning festive flavorsome meal
my olfactory sense is welcomed by serene balmy room
verily therapeutic as I immerse for writing pursuits
gripped with the lavender fragrance of my own perfume.

*In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Finnegans Horse Part the First

Harry Finnegan loved his horse,
Not in the carnal sense of course,
Just as a valued animal friend
Loyal and faithful to the end.
You’d see them every day up town
On Harry’s milk and yoghurt round
Bringing foods of taste and class
To places others dare not pass.
There wasn’t a place – high or low
That Harry and horse would not go.
Harry didn’t know the truth of course,
His nag was a police undercover horse,
Digi cameras in each front hoof
And in his mane to film the roof,
A mobile phone to fit beneath
Both of his two large front teeth,
A special code of whinnies and neighs
To direct the force all the way
To the scene of a spotted crime
Helping them arrive in time.
Local villains trembled in despair
Wondering how the police got there.
Watch this space some other night
More revelations if the time is right
But nobody twigged how crime went down
On Harry Finnegan’s Yoghurt round.
And Harry Finnegan loved his horse
But not in the carnal sense of course.

Soft Life

Soft life had decided to give In
A glass of vanilla yoghurt
A piece of cake for breakfast
A plate of macaroon for lunch
And some pasta for supper
Hiking on weekend to the mountain tops
And having some fun by the caves
On the green lands in the high relief
And even when the rains came
I was not afraid of wetting my clothes
Or dirtying my clothes in the mud
Cause in my little spacious room
There was a laundry basket
That will be emptied on my next hike
By the brown girl who'd come visiting

Vacation Fugue

At the deep end of night
when all that can be seen is the digital clock
and the light under the corridor door,
we slip out of our personas -
a fumbled attempt at drowsy love-play;
the plethora of giant pillows
hiding us from ourselves.

The hotel elevator takes us further
into a story we have already written.
Day 3 blurs, sight-seeing
pictures long poured
from the concrete mixer of time.
The machinery of a life
rusts absent-mindedly somewhere else.

Morning arrives in untidy disarray.
The vacation puts on your holiday face and pants,
the pants offer to go get Danish
and a yoghurt from the breakfast bar
while your partner
paints her features a deeper shade of alien hue.

A tub of yoghurt,
That's been too long on the shelf.
Has lost some flavour,
Time has caused this stealth.
The price reduced
On this sorry tub
Feeling lonely and abused
As passing shoppers snub
This yoghurt, past its use-by date
That was wanting to be purchased
Before it is too late.

Premium MemberBerries

What can satiate the soul?
What can surpass love?
Perhaps that which delights
the palate with a sweet tooth?
A crunchy crust of pastry
filled with delicious double cream
yellow, fragrant, and luscious,
and splashed over the crunchy crust
refreshing berries of all kinds,
flavour and texture combined.
Bite into the mystic aroma,
As juice dribbles on the lips,
lick, eat and be satiated on
deliciously fruity raspberries,
blueberries,
strawberries,
blackberries,
covered with honey,
corn syrup,
plus a dash of sweet yoghurt.

Yummier

Strawberry frozen yogurt
Yummier than ice-cream
Melts upon my tongue
as a sweet, cool dream.
Tastebuds do a little dance
For yoghurt is so fine and
Strawberries, strawberries yum oh yum
Totally divine!

Things Lost Along the Way

Tonight,
The milk bowl moon comes back.
Sitting alongside, on a shadowy bough,
The old white owl hoots
With its inimitable yoghurt voice.
And I hear the familiar eastern winds
Blowing in on blind chariots
In unbalanced haste,
To answer me about things
I've lost along the way.

- is the road to my school still there?
- yes, it still goes there but in a wheelchair.
- what about the river in front of my home?
- it's lost it's mind and sheds tears of mud.
- the girls in yellow sarongs?
- they wear white now.
- mother?
- she still sits by the gate with her oil lamp.

And I lost my earthbound being, once again.

Wish

On a Sunday evening t'will be
After a sweet sermon from the priest
And my ageing buttocks glued to no wooden chair

Oh my lovely meal on the table
The last thing to graze my intestines
And some swigs of Hollandia Yoghurt

Then a leaning back
Chanting in the Holy Spirit
And Closing my eyes to open no more.

No bullet driven through my heart
Neither a concussion from an accident
Respite of poison I would rather not

Premium MemberOur Breakfast Was Most Alarming

We’re having a little break from home
and had planned a busy day,
after a leisurely breakfast
we would soon be on our way.

We sauntered down to the restaurant
and were shown to a window table,
I fetched a bowl of blueberry yoghurt
whilst my hubby got a ham bagel

Before a morsel reached our mouths
the fire alarm began to ring,
we hurried to vacate the room
and we hadn’t eaten a darn thing!

A stream of hungry hotel guests
were ushered out of the door,
my tummy started grumbling
I could hear it gurgle and roar

We stood out in the freezing cold
thankfully there was no actual fire,
and we subsequently discovered
it was caused by a faulty hairdryer!

We crossed the road back to the hotel
and returned to find our original seat,
but hubby wasn’t starving hungry
on the way out he’d grabbed a sausage to eat!
