Woody Woodpecker happily pecks in his tree-house decent,
mean landlady Meany evicts him, for he doesn’t pay the rent.
So, he plans his antics, stops real estate to sprawl in his forest,
tricks Lance, the harassed lawyer, to gift him a new tree-nest.

A woodpecker pecks wood,
as she surely should -
but should we allow her,
at this ungodly hour?

beak’s pecking away
chiselling wood from my side
hole reveals insides
is it work or play
pecker’s constant yammering
or to stir me up
plug up scab or slug
the critter who’s fleshing out
a home for squirrels
i’m feeling squirrely
running on a hamster wheel
pounding on the walls
Elmer Fudd my spouse
guns blazing looking for fight
wily rabbit laughs
morning to midnight
tiptoe open door slowly
feels swoosh of bb’s
No birds were hurt in the writing of this poem ;)

A hungry woodpecker asked a man,
"Which restaurant are we going to?"
"We must get dinner as fast as we can",
Replied the man who was hungry, too,
"The longer it takes us to decide,
As time continues to creep and crawl..."
"I know what you're thinking", the bird replied,
Let's slam our heads against the wall".

A woodpecker pecked on our siding
And likely, won’t listen to chiding.
He left a few holes
Beyond our controls
In a place where we’re partly residing.
An expert came by for assessing
The damage where Woody’d been messing.
He spritzed with a spray
But could not really say
Why he’d pecked there, without simply guessing.
Our house by huge trees is surrounded,
So I am completely confounded
As to why all that wood
Wouldn’t seem just as good
As the siding on which he had pounded.

So, Woody was happy with the arrival of 12 blocks of suet.
He wasn't yelling anymore at an empty feeder, when he came to it.
But then suddenly, a new problem came about...
Something stole not only the suet, but the whole feeder hanging out!
Yes, a thief was taking it away during the night...
But, who was the thief? The squirrel or bear out of sight?
I kept searching the yard to find it and bring it back,
While Woody was yelling at me as if I had done the thief attack!
At the end of the day, I brought the feeder inside.
Then, one morning the culprit decided not to hide!
Down the corner of the porch, there was the squirrel, carrying it away!
I scolded him and put it back up with a better nail that day.
When I left home the next day, again it was gone!
This time I couldn't find it anywhere in the trees or lawn.
Then the next day, the bear was walking across the backyard hill!
Making me wonder, were they both now having a thrill?
There is still no feeder, now Woody gave up for now...
I've been busy, so no new one and the old not found.

It is tea time in the treehouse
There is a hedgehog entertaining a rat
They hear some loud jackhammering
Rat-a-tat-a-tat-tat-tat!
Is that a redheaded woodpecker? Asks the hedgehog, mad.
Don’t know says the rat, but this drumming makes me feel sad.
The woodpecker’s beak came in through the outside wall.
What is going on in there? His voice was loud and tall.
It is teatime said the hedgehog. You are welcome to come in.
I need a little help first, said the woodpecker. Can you push my chin?

* This is the continued story from my Haiku ...Where is my food? About Woody the Woodpecker.
So, hungry Woody the woodpecker was yelling at the empty feeder for food:
Clearly that day, he was not in the greatest mood!
I was held up with a health issue, so a friend went to buy the suet block
I am not sure what happened, but he picked a box of many in stock!
Then, the cashier couldn't ring up the bar code, you see...
And imagine this...gave this long box to my friend for free!
I was surprised I ended up with a box of 12 suet blocks inside!
So no worries now, Woody has plenty of food to replace outside!
He talks a little different tune, when he arrives with food there too
- I take that as a happy Thank You -

Gleaming golden ball revealing pines
Dark silhouettes against the jet-streaked sky
Roosters crow the sun up as doves coo refrain
Life seems simple salubrious as fledglings fly
That ole woodpecker rivets once again
What a way to live his simple savory time here
I often wonder how his sturdy head survives
From one oak tree and then to over there
He has moved, his riveting continues
I wonder if he finds food, is that why
He in that tree lingers, do night owls cringe
Wanting to screech, spread silky wings and fly
The cool of the morning feels so spot-on and dry
Soon strong sunny star will drive us inside
Seems simmering summer arrived early
Here's hoping it doesn't hang-on and abide

Rhythmic tapping outside my window
Bring E. A. Poe’s reflections to my mind,
Hammering an aggravating intrusion
The cause of which I must quickly find.
A red-headed woodpecker hammering
Oblivious to his naturally irksome task,
Worse than my turkey hens yammering
Hardly as deadly as the red death mask.
Poe found his intrusive raven engaging
Subject of one of his memorable poems,
The woodpecker brings no inspiration
A muse of no pleasant verses or hymns,
The reason for my current consternation
It brings out my fiercest exasperation.
