Fly-ing on my broom
Plans are made...yearly on zoom.
Tonights the night of fear and fun
The...nights only just begun.
I'll screech and laugh, and scare you
I'll curse you with, potions bad brew.
I stir my cauldron well
And fill with toad heads and a rat.
Bubbles are steaming hot
And fiery, when they pop.
I make my spells, to cast on you
Then bottle it, for quid or two.
Dress code is all black
Wear our well known pointy hat.
When I'm done with you
I'll go straight home, to feed my cat.
By moonlight sky...see me fly.
My silhouette,
My silhouette,
Waves bye ...bye.

The black cat slumbers
Bathing in the morning sun
Dreaming of witches
Flatface Poe
part feline part woe
like a face at a window
frowning and purring
at those you don’t know
but, see, they know of you
and the wizened witch too
who peers out of the glow
at those in your view
and with them you go
haunting, o haunt
Flatface Poe
We have a witch on the payroll the police chief said.
She scares and intimidates me, fills me with dread.
Why do we pay for that? I asked, is there better use of my money?
Perhaps said the chief, but although she is never sunny….
She has cracked some murder cases none of us could figure out.
She brings her familiar, a black cat named “gad-a-bout”.
Together they are a formidable pair, but one thing I guess.
They both terrify me, I have to admit and confess.
Gloomy old witch with faded light blue eyes
Your eerie spookiness took me by surprise
There is something disturbing in your haggard face
Your age has soured you, I think you have lost your grace.
Even your dilapidated hat seems weirdly odd to me.
Please leave me alone, unbothered, just let me be.
I feel disturbed and perturbed by you and your ugly hat.
Wondering where you keep your broom and your ebony cat.
Curly red-haired witch had incantations that flowed into the night
Her familiar, an owl, watched them float up and out of sight.
What are you trying for? Asked her cat, who was a sour puss really.
Not sure, she replied. Maybe a dinosaur named Willy or Wheel-y
Don’t you have to know ahead? A bossy wizard asked when he stopped.
Perhaps yes, perhaps no, she said, her fish partner flipped and flopped.
Suddenly a bunch of pelicans fell out of clouds from high in the sky.
Look what I caused, she told him “with barely a try”.
October vamp was practicing her drama
Reading a book given to her by her mama
Perfecting her laugh, her giggles and her cries.
Her black cat gave her a weary look by crossing his eyes.
I want a child the other kitties said
They chose Susie, Sally, Poindexter and Ned
Not I said Black; I want a seasoned witch
She kept her eye out, and soon found Twitch
Twitch had an eye that was always on the move
She had coarse manners, she was not smooth
I never want a cat for a familiar again, she said
Watching a calico kitten leave with Ned
But Black wanted the witch, and appealed in such a way….
That made the witch come back at the end of the day
I never thought I’d want another cat again, she said.
But wrap up that black one. I’m naming him Ed.
Blue haired witch with the rounded hat
You are not what we expected said the cat
The others in the coven wear points on their heads
In our town, she told him, our cats ride sleds.
Where are you from? The cat asked, feeling persnickety.
A place you have not heard of, near Broken Knee.
Under the snow, a million light years away.
Where magical blue-haired witches laugh and play.
Can I go there? The cat asked, intrigued by her story.
She threw back her head and said “Rice and Cakes Glory!”
If I brought you there, they would make fun of you too.
Our cats are rainbow colors – purple, orange, yellow and blue.
Once upon a Halloween
I was a little black cat
Since then I have also been
A witch and the Cat in the Hat
One time I was Lily Munster
And then a witch again
I was also once Bart Simpson
Another witch, and then
A wizard and a zombie, too
The following year, a fairy
And, just to try out something new
More witches, sweet and scary
Dressed in purple, and in orange
And even once in silver
And, like a squeaky door hinge
A laugh to make you shiver
It may not be the best you’ve seen
This costume both cliche and kitsch
But when all else fails on Halloween
You can’t go wrong with being a witch!
It was dead on arrival,
no chance of survival,
the tiny brown mouse.
She did it again,
my cat gifting friend,
at least it's not loose in the house..
Be it mouse or shrew,
would make a potent rodent stew, but
not so appealing to me.
Stir it until blue,
and put it in a witches brew
but I won't want that recipe.
There was an old Witch with a beauty-mole
On her nose that looked like an ugly troll.
Spook, her hungry cat,
Like a bobcat sat,
Tail wagged, lost self-control and left a hole.

A Funny Limerick - Make Me Laugh Poetry Contest
Sponsored by: Tania Kitchin
The reading witch is unaware
She is being given a mean cat stare
Her book is open; the words are keen.
She is excited to devour this on Halloween.
The pages are turned by an unseen hand.
Amazing when the book is airily fanned.
Fierce pirates and princesses in a battle and more.
She is fully engrossed in chapter four.
A war is waged, thorns in knight’s spurs.
His armor and shied designed by Murres.
The cats prance and meow and hit and yowl.
Waking reading witch from her book with a unified growl.
Grotesque Gimply the Green Eyed Witch
Was trying to rake her hair without a twitch.
Tangled burrs and fleas made her skull itch.
We watched in silence, myself and Fitch.
Fitch is the cat with who knows the switch.
For Grotesque Grimply can be a rather mean witch.
I sat in the dark, hiding away in the pitch.
The silent bat, who understands her niche.
Green was her face and ebon her hair,
features young, body withered sinew.
Her enormous eyes gave me a scare.
And, from one nostril, a ruby grew.
I stayed behind the large, surging crowd,
who drank her brew then made eerie sounds.
I was Press and we were not allowed
to view what happens on witching grounds.
Evil story would ensure glory;
not prepared for unheavenly ride.
A black gale blew, thickened by gory.
With it, black cats, ravens to her side.
Undead emerged shedding dirt--a fright.
With wrinkled hand, she stroked ugly doll.
Snakes sliding from ears, she rose in night.
So scared was I--wrote nothing at all.
