Not a rose

chasing the heat haze on the highway

smoking a spliff while "let it roll” plays

praying to feel your touch by Friday

without adding another cross on the byway

I haven’t seen the world
as it is
for a while

but I refuse to close my eyes
and abide
by their lies

as a mother Searches
ashes
for her child

all so some bastard can watch the sea
while it rises
and dies

I hope this half gets me to payday

although It wont take any pain way

I can Stow it away

for another day

While it watches and waits for my minds decay

they left in 1921
but just took there guns
to Jerusalem

still a child throws a stone
& they break bone
to break soul

in the sky zanana’s flown
to kick hope
show control

wains with nowhere to go
forced to roam
with no home

a Folk with no gravestone
left alone
not a rose

Harvest

HARVEST

Day after day we are out in the sun
Collecting the harvest before it rains.
Day after day until daylight is done,
Scything the ripe hay to fill up the wains.
They say the fresh air is good for our health;
Far better that being cooped up inside.
But we say it’s good for the farmer’s wealth,
Using child labour, it can’t be denied.
All very well for the artist to say
What a beautiful country scene we make.
But we have no time to pose here all day,
Even though we deserve a well-earned break.
We have one more day to finish it all.
On Monday morning we go back to school

Premium MemberBattlefield Dreams

Driven by valour he did walk tall
Alone in trench the past recalled
Any fear that was felt buried deep
His eyes are closing in final sleep.

So young to be lying in the mud
Dying alone and so much blood
His life not lived, all is undone
Never to know who lost or won.

Failing mind thinks of summer day
Joyfully laughing the hours away
With girl he loves her hair aflame
Breathless moment, lifeforce wains.

Silent prayer the end is nigh
Whoever said grown men don't cry?
Futile war lives thrown away
Battlefield dreams left to decay.

Premium MemberCall of the Unknown

Rush of life for me is over
Insidious age has me ensnared
Fond look back at days in clover
Of twilight years am too aware.

Shadows gather at warp speed
With stoicism must face my fear
With footsteps of faith, I proceed
Silent goodbye to all things dear.

Bound by rotating wheel of life
Rising, falling endless chain
Through laughter, tears, and daily strife
From birth until this life force wains.

Going ahead to who knows where
Positive thoughts are invisible guide
Time to be brave refuse to be scared
Universe is vast where will I abide?

There Is a Star

Oh, there is a star with my name on it
And I have followed it for years and years
I've thought that I should write it a sonnet
That heavens could read but nobody hears

My star is always there where it should be
Clouds might obscure it but surely it's there
It is older, yes, much older than me
And it seems to understand but not care

My four score years left me with aches and pains
But my star has done at least a billion
And shows no sign that his twinkling light wains
Oh,I'm sure he's got another million.

Best of all my star makes enormous sound
Yet he keeps it to himself we have found.

Her Soul Took Flight

you made the sun shine
you brought sands to any beach.
endless words i have written
 your out of my reach.
my heart it clings to you
my beautiful only daughter.
my tears they fall like rain
at the thought of never seeing you again.
my hearts now filled with such sorrow
its in so much pain.
a mothers and fathers worst nightmare
of loosing one of their wains.
my heart now will never be free
as your not here to share it with me.
my heart crys now everyday
as god has taken you away.
my tears they fall now like rain
as her soul it took flight.
i think of you my dear daughter
each day and every night
as i long for you in my sight.
i know you have your wings now
its my heart it clings to you
it will never ever again be free
it will always be waiting to reunite with you.

Love Never Does Where Memory Wains

They grabbed the future by the reigns

Right outside the wedding gate

But alas with passing years

The age of old gets hard to take

Who knew that as of late

Memories would start to wain

Both of them still feel the love

But deep inside so much has changed

In the fog of her mind

She recognizes the familiar face

But as hard as she tries

She can't recall the familiar name

He takes her by her fragile hand

Comforts her with it's okay

You're still my girl, I'm still your man

And it will always be that way

He remembers well his wedding vow

All the promises that he made

And all that heaven will allow

Though they're both now old and gray

Over the years with so much

They held on tight to the love they saved

So at this time they'd have enough

For the likes of this day

The Great Meadow

The Great Meadow

Beyond the high hedge the great meadow extends to the sky
Its fallow grasses fanned into waves by a breeze.
While down the slope the bearded barley and rye
Make a downy golden fabric that clothes the leas

The largest field in England, so it's opined
Though a child beside an endless Kansas prairie
Beneath heavens that can be reached by heart and mind
No distant scene but a piece of homeland friendly

As I walked its hidden life became revealed
A pheasant ran with ungainly comic indignity
A startled cat leapt from a nest concealed
And a sky lark rose to sing an unfettered symphony

Across the counties were such prospects planned
From days when mighty shires hauled their wains
And still the fields and hedgerows shape the land
So let it ever green and pleasant remain

Hot Dog

He's small, barely eight inches tall
but those little legs let him chase the ball.

It's his favorite past time much to my chagrin
but I do it for the pleasure in watching him.

He's quick, he's fast
thrilled to chase or catch the ball as it is cast.

Too soon my enthusiasm wains
and playing endlessly becomes a pain.

The snow man made totally of snow
 plump, round and cold
can hold the battered ball so old
and pretend to get ready to throw.

My dog with such a tiny brain
never let's his joy falter or wain.

There he sits without bark
waiting patient for the game to start.

A Million Gold Coins

Gossamer coins grown
transparent at last
A million gold pieces
still on damp grass
Waved green like a dream
before wind sets them free
Some glide on the stream
others head to the sea
Winters kindred spirits,
leaves rustle down lanes
The plural and singular
will part as sad wains
Unlike summers long day
their existence so brief
Twigs now left to tremble
vacant, brittle in grief
If you look very closely
see their trembling bones
Soon for new beginnings
before life returns home

The Purple Heart

Radiant are the words
that painted your existance
Shinning are the details
swept with lyrical rhymes
Brightly sewn were intentions
that bless us day and night
A tapestry of beauty
in heart shapes and designs
A glowing presence expressing love
made of it's own light
Hopes that peddle effortlessly
that never wains or tires
Happy and content
circleing it's beautiful fire
Sparks sparkling words of care
Rainbow colours here and there
Stars that twinkle in the night
small white unageable lights
That lights above the perfect night
Just before the perfect day
I like the way
you decorated my heart
I really can't discribe
this kind of art
Colours are made to
dazzle the eyes
But what you've given
also pleases the blind
Rhyme and rythem
do not account for the deaf
But lives feel those
certian depths
I stand in awe
of your beautiful delights
Close my eyes
and say good night

Me and You

time flies
grief wains
eventually I learn
to love again

night ends
a new day
sun shines bright
fog dissipates

a Valentine
for a heart that's true
a new love
for me and you
