Wagged Poems

Premium MemberStrawberries

With strawberries, never enough for me: drippy hands, splattered ceiling, slushy the floor. Fido, my best friend, just slid out the door. Perhaps, a strawberry bush, why not a strawberry tree? -- Fido wagged, nay!~ to a Strawberry Flea.

Gate

It was a late night of the lively day, When I returned from the dance theater, I heard a non -stop groaning sound nearby, The sound had come from a ghostly building, I opened the gate of the old mansion, And I found an old wretched mother dog, It was in Godforsaken condition, And it was nearing its menacing grave, I felt grief -stricken on the old mother, What a sad condition the animal had, I wanted to save the mother doggy, I helped the to drink some water, The mom wagged its tail for a reward, In a gossamer way, it was rescued.

true animal tale

True animal story

One-legged seagull
sat on the roof near the chimney
it was a male gull, its feather
worn like he had been
in a battle and needed a rest
when my dog noticed the bird,
she barked the gull
shrieked, hate at first sight,
but for a truce
When the dog ignored
its presence and
the bird stopped teasing her
the kitchen had a flat roof
in the morning, the bird had flown
the dog picked at her food
on Sunday, she listened to the sermon
when the dog heard the priest say
something about angels
the dog knowingly wagged her tail

Premium MemberMy Basset Ran Off with My Essay

My basset puppy ran off with my essay
She even stole my mail
She cleaned out all the fridge
and wagged her funny tail

She went through all my papers
and threw them on the floor
Oh that crazy basset
She almost broke the door

I did not stop her
I wanted to find out more
And that is when I realized
Her tongue could clean the floor

She brought me so much joy
I really couldn't complain
This crazy basset dog of mine
Put sunshine into my life and kept away the rain

Whenever I was sad
She'd lay her cute head on my lap
She wouldn't eat or move
Until I took a nap

I couldn't believe my eyes
When she ran off with a broom
She skidded all over the tiles
And brought new meaning on to how to clean a room

White pearl eyes gazed at me
As I scratched behind his ears
His tail wagged as he left
Following the soft sound
Of the dogwalkers footsteps

Premium MemberDuggie and Spence

Duggie, a floppy-eared pup, loved lying in the sun
but running through puddles was much more fun.
He barked at clouds when he heard thunder roar,
while impatiently he waited for rain drops to pour.

Today, Duggie was happy to see the sky growing dark
and wagged his tail when he heard another pup bark.
He ran onto the porch through his new doggy door
and let out a howl when the pup barked once more.

They talked for a while through the back yard fence.
Duggie learned his new neighbor's name was Spence.
One day, Spence told Duggie, "You're my best buddy."
Always playing in rainy day puddles, getting very muddy.

Magic

Abracadabra, the women chanted with flair,
As they waved their wands, magic filled the air.
A curious cat watched, tail twitching with glee,
As the women's spells brought wonder to see.

Abracadabra, they chanted once more,
And the cat transformed into a dog on the floor.
It wagged its tail and barked with delight,
A furry friend, in a new form, shining bright!

The women asked, "Dear cat, are you happy now?"
But the cat replied, "No," with a flick of its brow.
So again it changed, in a swirl of magic dust,
And the women laughed, at the wonder they could trust.

But then it transformed again, oh my!
As it turned into a rat, and scurried by.

And then, in a flash, a new cat appeared,
And gobbled up the rat, without a speck of fear!
Abracadabra, indeed, their magic was true,
And wonder, awe, and joy, were all conjured anew!

Loyalty

There once was a dog
with love in his heart
and trust in his eyes
who howled at the moon
who buried his bones
who chewed the cushions
who protected and guarded
without being asked
and without reward
who licked and wagged
and smiled and danced
who became
the best friend
you could ever have
he was the very first dog
Loyalty was his name
and every dog
that followed behind him
hasn’t changed
a single thing.

The Dog-ged Lie

THE DOG-GED LIE

In a house on a bustling street,
Lived a pup with paws and fur so neat.
His owner, a young lad of just ten,
Made a promise to his furry friend, Ben.
"Dear dog," the boy did solemnly vow,
"I'll confess to my teacher, I swear it now,6

That you munched on my homework, oh so sly,
But please, don't give me that not-guilty eye."
The dog just woofed and wagged his tail,
He knew the boy's plan would surely fail.
But to humor his lazy friend, he played along,
Knowing the outcome would sound all wrong.¹²

The next day at school, in front of the class,
The boy's face turned red, oh what a farce!
"Teacher," he stammered, "I must confess,
My dog ate my homework...oh what a mess!"
The teacher just chuckled and shook her head,
"Nice try, my dear boy," she kindly said.¹8

But the dog at home let out a sly grin,
Knowing he'd never get in trouble for this sin.
And so, the boy and his furry mate,
Shared a phony secret that was so great.
Telling the truth would be tough, so it seem,
The boy & his dog made a fraudulent team.²4

Dream a Good Dream

We dream of snow and snow comes.
What falls from the Mind
falls from that inner climate.

How powerful are you little ape-kind,
you who dangle your hairy flesh
beneath an immeasurable wonder
assuming that the seen happens
without that unseen greatness of Mind
making it so?

Look there swims a duck in a pond!
Yet before that Mind imagined you,
you would not now be able to image
bird, water, or land.

Do you see the power you spring from?

Every time we have dreamt a thing
(be we awake or sleep),
a collective reality of that world rushes in
to be that thing.
in time it becomes set in a stone calendar
the world has wagged its tail
in answer.

Be careful little ape-kind,
be careful of that power you so
heedlessly now use.

Frost Fractals

Sunrise today was an ice diamond in a glacial sky
glazed over with a crystalline light.
My dog was making smoke mountains,
my own mouth was an O of chilling fumes.

Dog and I were pulled along
by a beautifully set landscape
that had been chiseled out of stillness.

At the end of the street
the pulse of life was just getting going,
cars were steaming and idling
while ice maidens
hauled kids off to soccer practice.

The freeze-framed silence
melted like a single snowflake
on my tongue,
my dog sniffed the changing air,
then wagged its bushy tail
as if plowing on through
the softening thaw.

And the Dog Laughed Too

He stood on the street corner
Having a much needed smoke
Somehow we got chatting
And he told me a joke
And i started laughing
The way that you do
He looked at me smiling
And started laughing too
And his dog laughed too.

It became a habit
Ever after that
Every morning I’d stop
For a little chat
And listen to any joke
That he would tell
His supply seemed endless
And he told them so well
And his dog laughed too.

One day I saw the dog
Out with another guy
So I said hello to him
And I asked him why.
He said he was standing in
His dad had had a stroke
So I sent my best wishes
And I really missed his joke
And his dog just looked sad.

I asked about him every day
Was told he was improving
Was chafing at the bit to
Get his recovery moving.
I was so pleased to hear
Of progress like that
For I really missed
His joke and our chat
And his dog looked optimistic.

Then one day I saw him back
Standing there having a smoke
I bid him a good to see you
I’ve missed your daily joke.
We both laughed uproariously
As he told me his latest one
And the dog wagged his tail
All signs of sadness gone
And his dog laughed too.

Premium MemberWitch With a Hold In Her Nose

There was an old Witch with a beauty-mole
On her nose that looked like an ugly troll.
Spook, her hungry cat,
Like a bobcat sat,
Tail wagged, lost self-control and left a hole.

Human Troll

The human troll

He was the tallest man I have ever seen, bigger than the rest
he had one big eye, a lantern, seeing wide and a smaller eye
seeing inwards; he retired as an airline pilot at 75.
He preferred to fly at night alone under the stars listening
to the symphony of the galaxy.
His motto was discretion, not for him to write a book hanging
out anyone, like when he flew explorers, sledges and dogs
to the Nord pole and said nothing when the fearless men
took the glory and got their names in the newspaper.
When he finally retired, there was not a word of his exploit
no king’s medal, no flags were waved.
He had his memory like when he landed on the Savannah
when the elephants played the trumpets to his honour and
The lions wagged their tales.
No one knew where he came from; he never told me
I guessed from a mountain somewhere in the hinterlands
the day he disappeared, the earth shock, I knew he
had been a troll trying his luck in the human world
