The mercury reached 104 degrees farenheit today
The masses swelter and it becomes difficult
evne to walk down the street
Yet the city lives on since New Yorkers always stand tall
when it comes to emergencies
A little sun cam't destroy "Baghdad on the Hudson"
Children laugh and play as a man sells flavored ice
Cars pass by in a dizzying display
Workers lift up concrete to build our city
A lone bird flying overhead looks down with pity
at those that cannot fly
Young lovers kiss under the azure sky
Taxicabs race through the avenues
Each statue of a famous man or woman gleams in the afternoon
At the beaches swimmers dive under waves
and try to avoice the rip tide which can overcome their resistance
Let's rejoice
We should be glad to live in a town with eight million others
All taking in the joys of summer
and chasing the urban dream
Urban Vibe
I live at intersection insanity, inhumanity
Deep in the hood on avenue west profanity
Palm heights boulevard, more like roundabout of Vanity
Raining humiliation down at the High school girls locker,
With a chance of thick testosterone in the change room after soccer
Precipitation of ammunition
And an arson ignition
Deep in the hood
Causing mental disposition
In the city center, you worry for your commission
Is a whole different mind set from the alleyway of malnutrition
All over the city temperature raises,
as blood filled streets twist and turn like mazes
I need to leave town it's got a bad urban vibe
Forgive and let live is what i personally prescribe.

Marauding through the suburban
Merry-go-rounding through the city landscapes,
Marauding through the city ghettos;
Merry-go-rounding through the Metropolitan,
Marauding through the city gates,
Spluttering armoured tank roaring and rolling on
reconnoitered,
Mobilizing blazing mobile container lopped out of control,
Revving monster enthroned as the villain of the road,
Wailing ramshackle, the knackered one hell of a horse-power
plodded on,
All knee-jerk wounded out in roughly cut steel;
More the crawling millipede, speeding on roughly curl ruin
city,
A tangy flaming yellow lorry burnt into bleeding hearse
lorry;
Virulent virus attacking circulatory fortresses,
A living daylight nightmare dream haunting folks,
As the devouring beast fumed and purred proudly,
Off debris fragrance suspended in lasting pall
Gassing leering leaded blanket of Carbon,
Attacking painful and searing sore-blindness as a bat
And daunting shedding deadly poisonous mournful flowing
tears;
A trail of twinkling city lights
The land where my fancies take flight
And soar across hazy hues of neon
When to dreamland folk are gone
I step into their dreams to peak
What their concrete hearts seek
In their unconsciousness of purity
I just wake up with new found surety
I'll never find the truth of life
The sense and reason of the strife
Its far too bright in the city night
The darkness within obscures my sight
As mine as theirs and the falsehood
That their whole lives withstood
But those who learn the emotional game
Receive fame,accolades and acclaim
And I look up at the sparkling city lights
The sparkle seems a lot less bright
The lights are just a facade to allure
To all the vice, the sin and all impure
And its an eternal epitome of falsity
With our souls and hearts in complicity
Now our lives belong to this frigidity
Yearning for warmth and simplicity
Over the city -
rainclouds
People walking on the
streets
feel
the steady beat
of the raindrops
As the afternoon passes
weary eyes
turn homeward
Somewhere in the distance
songs are being sung
Tunes which bring happiness
to a cloud - covered city
Urban dwellers
await each note
with great anticipation
Joy is something we can
take
delight in
If we open our eyes
and ears
To the many universes
Which lie beyond our urban home
Light from the star
we call "The Sun" comes through
my window
Nourishing the plants on my
window sill
My wishes float out through the
same open window
Leaving me hope they will
form rich soil and take root
Unable to see the future
we must depend
on the pillars of hope we have
built
Another day here in the vast
metropolis
People move, cars move
the city is rocketing onward
Through my window
I see buildings where thousands
upon thousands of my fellow city
dwellers
Are eating, dreaming, hoping
as we all do
The metropolis will give us
answers
In due time
Isn't New York City the leading global city?
Wait...why is it called The Big Apple?
And for those who don't know...here's the aswer:
it was named after the poor street vendors,
selling apples during the Depression.
And despite all the traffic jams and noises,
New York City is still a great city!
Manhattan's avenues are quite at night...
illuminated by those skyscrapers!
See the Brooklyn Bridge cross the East river,
such wonders are The Whitestone, the Throgs Neck,
the Washington and the Manhattan Bridges!
Yes, Queens is the melting part of the world;
where would you find such a diversity?
Entered in Brian Strand's contest, " Sonnet Me "
Leave while you still can,
Understand this city sucks you in,
It gnaws at your entrails until you flee,
Many are born and bred,
In the city of the dead,
Murder and robbery,
Consume these streets,
Unable to beat,
The odds,
It is so odd,
To find a mark of perfection here,
It does not exist,
It will never exist,
Until the disease,
Of anger, hatred, prejudice, and crime,
Evaporates from these homes,
These streets,
Bleed.
Later - the city
speaks to us
the asphalt homeland
Let's us know where we
stand
On the highway
Autos whizz by
Take a deep breathe
of the night air
Doesn't appear that the city
will let you go
Urban magic
works its way
inside you
Lets touch the sky
Where stars are just beginning
to reveal themselves
Over our heads
the half moon
Shines down on the
multitude
All of your questions
will be answered
if you look deeply enough
Into the heart of the metropolis
Lights in the Metroplois(revised version)
As citizens cross
wide boulevards
city lights
dance on the pavement
Ethereal landscape
Created by the
shining lights
speaks to us in it's
own special language
doesn't seem quite right
that all those glowing bulbs
are changing peaceful darkness
into a garish illuminated
landscape
But after a few years
city dweller know the scene
You see - they live here
in this turbulent metropolis
where yearning hearts
have come from many lands
to prosper
If you don't lose your head here
You'll find a slice
of the urban pie
is waiting for you
in the heart of
this temple to humnan
ingenuity
You'll feel much better
after you partake
of the gritty flavor
our city has to offer

skyscrapers
stand tall
in the heart
of the metropolis
Only a hint
of rain tonight
Clouds block the stars
Yet one or two
still shine through
City dwellers
sip tea
and watch the
passing parade
from their windows
One by one
they slowly tire
and fall asleep
A flickering screen
in each apartment
Another city evening passes
Out of the
millions living
here
Is there one
for you?
Is there a
heart which
contains room
for a friend or
lover?
Surely, the
city will answer
your call
Eyes that have
seen winter turn
to spring - turn to
summer
Now close for
a night
Tomorrow will be
another search
for love
there is
our city
gleaming at
night - like a strand of pearls
around the neck
of an urban queen
