Premium MemberThe Unkindest Cut

They lay entombed, the stone cut’s humor rife:
A Doe, his dear, between them lies his knife.

Premium MemberHeinous Betrayal

Secure within the mother’s womb.
Sheltered from all storms of life

Swimming,
Swiveling,
and
Sustained.

The countdown begun-

A wide world awaiting,
Eager faces looking,
Windows opening,

To

Colour,
Scent,
Sound,
Taste and Touch.

But,

Expectations shattered,
Exasperation heightened,
Execution begun,
Excruciation settled,
and
Expulsion confirmed!

Chopped to pieces,
Down to trash.
‘The most unkindest cut of all’!

Betrayal!
Horrid Betrayal!
Through aeons,
History repeats.
‘Am I my brother’s keeper’?

The Son of Man –
sold out,
with a kiss.
Et tu, Brute!

She grew up in the modernity of urban culture,
fascinated by the rhythm of contemporary music,
decided to make the career of choice
as a professional pop singer.

An exponent of traditional art, her father
didn’t like the idea of his daughter straying.
So, on her eighteenth birthday he gave her a book,
“Geetanjali” (song offerings), he cherished most.

A collection of classical lyrics with central theme
resonating the serene music of devotion to God,
didn’t appeal to her youthful vibrant mind,
so, she stowed it away unread in the bookshelf.

Time didn’t treat her the way she wanted,
destiny rolled for her the unkindest dice.
Before she could cross the prime of youth,
deadly disease destroyed her sonorous voice.

As all her songs sank in the abyss of agony,
she remembered the book of song her father gave.
From its pages lyrics of solace echoed in her ears,
she lost her voice, but discovered the divine melody.

(Geetanjali (Song Offerings) is written by Rabindranath Tagore for which he received the nobel prize for literature)

Premium MemberFriends Come, Friends Go

Friends come, friends go: This Earth is so
Some I make, Death must take -- I know
Acquaintances are many, but
Perhaps the most unkindest cut
Is one that happened long ago

George was the best friend that I'd had
Until he went and made me mad
He stole my girl, and did he strut!
Friends come, friends go

When I found out, I yearned to go
And punch George out, from head to toe
I'd hit him hard right in his gut
Then to his jaw an uppercut
Oh, my. Would I put on a show!
Friends come, friends go

Premium MemberMarriage Is a Risk

Marriage is a risk
  That takes real guts
Your past gets frisked
  ~ Unkindest cuts

It's also a gamble
  Especially today
Couples skip the preamble
  Get divorced right away

It takes a healthy commitment
  To which some are averse
Why tie a forever-not
If you can't undo a reverse

It's a life shared together
  The ups and the downs
There'll be some rough weather
  Some smiles, some frowns

But let's not forget the number one thing
Why so many couples exchange wedding rings
Come good times, come bad; laughter or woe
Marriage nudges and tweaks, forces us to grow

More Die Starved of Love

The unkindest of human dread
That hits men 'pon this heart-less earth,
Not of flesh made nor is blood red—
But being left to live in dearth.
Faults of flesh can well be treated,
If not cured, alleviated,
But man no hospital has made
To cure the pain of loneliness,
Nor has medicines invented
For despair, nor for hopelessness,
Many a man has died for bread—
For a mere morsel, roof above,
Jaundiced when get heads, hearts jaded,
More die starved for mere scraps of love.

The Unkindest Cut

I read about a twelve year old
Who fell and cut his arm.
His coach gave him a band-aid;
There was no cause for alarm.

Yet unbeknownst to anyone,
Bacteria crept in
And multiplied with fierce abandon
Underneath the skin.

Next day the boy was feeling sick
With fever and some pain.
The doctor checked him out and thought
The cause was pretty plain –

With lots of virus going round,
That must be what he had;
And so she sent him home
With very worried mom and dad.

He started feeling worse and so
They went to N.Y.U.;
A fine prestigious hospital
Would know just what to do.

Alas, they made the same mistake
As doctor number one.
They took some tests and then dismissed
The parents and their son.

Yet morning came and he declined.
His folks just couldn’t wait.
They rushed back to the hospital;
By then, it was too late.

The doctors somehow’d missed the signs;
His body was in shock.
Bacteria’d been building armies
All around the clock.

And no one knew to give the boy
The proper ammunition.
“We’re very sorry” was the line
They got from each physician.

Now doctors are just human
And of course, they make mistakes;
But reading of this family’s loss,
My heart just up and breaks.

What’s painful yet quick to recall?
A man wants to fly but must fall
Rejection can hurt
Being stomped in the dirt
Is the unkindest cut of them all
