Driving On a Day Off During the Week

driving on a day off during the week
to a park that is unusually uncrowded
waterfront with a man lunch and a man
size drink
i am also off the next day and that makes
me smile even more
the only missing part is my working significant
other
i pull up a song called ebony and ivory on my
phone and cool out on this nice fall day
the sun is taking a break, but so is the rain
the only other person here is now leaving and
i am all by myself
instead of wishing for more days like this,
i thank God the the Beautiful Blessing of This One
there are those who are not healthy enough to feel this feeling
therefore i rejoice in the depths of the Gift of The Ability To Do So
for one day it could be me

Premium MemberI Hear You Call

Africa,

Upon this vantage pedestal I see you,

i gaze from this hollow quest,

away from the home of my ancestors,

a sojourner for a time,

I yearn,

to tread again the beautiful climate of my origin,

where no strange stares forbids my freedom,

Africa,

Did I hear the enthralling songs?

The chirping sounds of the birds,

The brilliant coruscations,

the evening tales by moonlight,

Oh! Nature, never saw you tainted.

it is different here,

Africa, A vast exotics land of combination,

with lush emerald jungles

vistas of burning stars,

and torrential white river,

the mountains unharvested,

the hills uncrowded,

Africa,

we smile without suspicion

not hunted "like partridges upon the mountain"

We breathe though poor

Yet rich in morals

I am a prisoned sojourner here,

men speed away uncaring.

locked in debts called homes,

bills buries friendship,

and for wood hay and stubble,

nature becomes a nullity,

in motions like robots,

we wake, we work, and wear our frame

Africa i hear you call

Premium MemberA Helpless Predator In a Bar

His eyes stealthily sweep the room
For women uncrowded by men or age.
To temptations he’s secretly doomed,
His desire rattles the bars of a cage.

For women uncrowded by men or age
He yearns in rapture-colored dreams.
His desire rattles the bars of a cage,
In him a mourner of lost youth screams.

He yearns in rapture-colored dreams,
Numbed by the routine of domestic bliss.
In him a mourner of lost youth screams,
His ears ringing with time’s taunting hiss.

Numbed by the routine of domestic bliss,
To temptations he’s secretly doomed.
His ears ringing with time’s taunting hiss,
His eyes stealthily sweep the room.

Nowhen

Nowhen
Between times
between days
Darkness held sway
Every sound’s alarming
in a primitive way
A pale hope of morning
over the roof horizon’s shore
heralded a new creation
Let there be light once more
And the first bird
broke the breathless silence
Fluted thread of bold announcement
Let praise commence
I sat in the damp air
warming grass underfoot
Thoughts uncrowded, time suspended
worship, the heart’s first work
A rustle
a movement
a little fox nosing
in front of my seat
looked up
started back
ducked and looked again
crabwise scuttle
shadows scurried
there were two
one more look
foxy silhouette by the hedge
then gone
The breeze touched branches
and dozing trees stirred
the piping chorus filled the air like streamers
and dawn changed shift
with the singing stars

Teacher In Dreamland

TEACHER IN DREAMLAND

Step outside in January and it’s not 30 degrees below
Metro to school is on time and uncrowded
All kids in class behave well and want to learn
Sun shines in window but not too hot
Xerox machine works without breaking down
Textbooks are clearly written and crap-free
Principal helps with organization and timetabling
Coffee machine produces liquid resembling coffee
Guy in the newspaper shop responds when I say good evening
Elevator works at all floors in the apartment building
Television shows are interesting and uninterrupted by silly ads
Midnight doesn’t come too quickly and there is time
To read a little and chat with my wife who is not working late
End of a perfect day. . . . . . in dreamland.
