Every Night

Every night she's walking by
And summer days, they seem to fly
There's music in the words of love
This feeling's coming from above

And every day is just the same
I wake up and scream your name
Holding on to helping hands
Building castles in the sand

And they say it never lasts
But don't bring up the bitter past
The coup d'etaits in paradise
Far away from blinding eyes

My head is spinning round and round
But I have never had a doubt
That your affection holds the key
To be or maybe not to be?

But one day clouds will have to part
A glimpse of sun will mark the start
A ray of hope for which I've prayed
Will stop the never-ending rain

Hanging to your every breath
Each silence could mean sudden death
Under the stars of summer's sky
I never want to say goodbye..

Birthday Wish

Today's the day of your birth
The day your presence graced the earth
The day your smile blessed the world
But don't you ever let that light go out.

I wish you to blossom day by day
And not a thing to block your way
I hope your every dream comes true
Eighteen is such a tender age

Cashier Samir

He’s out of my reach, he’s out of my
League
But he’s the reason why I
Head to Publix every
Week
I’ve barely said a word to him, and yet
I make my way through every
Aisle
Just to catch a glimpse of him
Then maybe catch his eye
And smile

He rarely ever sees me as he puts some
Groceries
Into bags, but some days I get
Lucky
And he’ll look up and smile back
He’ll never know that I’m just standing there
Waiting for the day he speaks to
Me
He always ends up busy, and so
Remains a mystery

In result, I always leave the scene with
My
Head spinning round and my
Tongue
In my cheek. Because while no one can
Decipher the look I wear on my
Face,
He’ll always be so close to me, one
Week and one aisle
Away

I hope one day his voice will find me,
Even
Just to say hello, even if it’s just
In passing
As I walk by and turn to go
I hope one day he’ll read this poem and hear
All
I have to say
But for now I’ll keep my hopes up
For one week and one aisle
Away

There Has To Be Another Way

Why do those who don't deserve it,
suffer the greatest,
and those who do deserve the worst,
live scott free?

Why are we not heard.
and fade into the background,
while those who already have a lot,
collect more and take greedily?

Those like me,
wish for death.
and those who have it all,
live arrogant and naive.

When my day get's here,
which by the grace of God I was saved from previously,
I'll be glad my time is done,
and will crack a smile as I drift to sleep.

That's all I want,
as I pray for it every night.
I hope those who deserve punishment,
get their day painfully.

Explaining "14" To My Daughter

I know its not easy being Four-teen
I once walked the road that you’re on.

I can’t take the steps for you …I’ve done it already
my choice now to only look on.

I know all too well, that you think I know nothing
(‘cause I Once thought that same thing in my mind)

And today I see Mom, with new appreciation
you could say I know “less” now with time.

I “get”, that your life is now filled with decisions
that you aren’t prepared yet to make

There are things tearing at you from EVERY direction
and you don’t know which route you should take

But PLEASE, baby girl, take comfort in knowing that some of us made it past TEEN.
We struggled as you are, and feared as you do, that WE would be stuck in between

You probably won’t understand what I attempt to make clear
until you safely make it out too,

And one day you may have this same chat with YOUR daughter
trying to say that she’s so much like you.

When I look in your eyes and see so much confusion,
there’s an all too familiar pain

Though right now you don’t see it, one day YOU will be it.
It will then be your turn to explain.

The Best Day In the Year

December the 23rd is the best day in the year
that's when for me, people sing and cheer
I celebrate my birthday on the 23rd
The best day in the year,
I'm such a lucky girl
I get a cake and presents too
Plus it's followed by an 'I love you'
I get anything I want on that day
I can get a party and a 'Hip hip hooray! '
I get presents, hugs and kisses
All from friends and relatives
All this takes place on the best day of the year
But best of all is, we can do it again when the 25th is here
