Explaining "14" To My Daughter

I know its not easy being Four-teen I once walked the road that you’re on. I can’t take the steps for you …I’ve done it already my choice now to only look on. I know all too well, that you think I know nothing (‘cause I Once thought that same thing in my mind) And today I see Mom, with new appreciation you could say I know “less” now with time. I “get”, that your life is now filled with decisions that you aren’t prepared yet to make There are things tearing at you from EVERY direction and you don’t know which route you should take But PLEASE, baby girl, take comfort in knowing that some of us made it past TEEN. We struggled as you are, and feared as you do, that WE would be stuck in between You probably won’t understand what I attempt to make clear until you safely make it out too, And one day you may have this same chat with YOUR daughter trying to say that she’s so much like you. When I look in your eyes and see so much confusion, there’s an all too familiar pain Though right now you don’t see it, one day YOU will be it. It will then be your turn to explain.
