Stoning Poems

Quintains For Claude Raines

I’ve never been to Sicily, and yet
it’s always felt a part of me. Who knows?
Another life, another alphabet?
Alongside Archimedes, jotting prose
in Agrigentum I, with each vignette,

imbibing wine, as bitter as regret,
harangued the hellene farmers, stoning crows.
That Greek me – did I tend (as now) to get
frustrated when my verse was ‘on the nose’,
all too transparently in Homer’s debt?

But Italy’s a credible coquette,
more winning in her ways than we suppose.
Like Rhapsody in Blue’s smooth clarinet,
she captures us. We victims, in love’s throes,
admire her steely claws, as black as jet.

Premium MemberYou Are Not Alone

In this world
When you are a victim
Everyone expects only one thing
From you
Your disappearance
Because every time
You scream

Reminds
Them
That they remind
Them
That they did nothing

They just watched
The stoning
With a shot of silence

It is not the stones that kill
It's the silence
It is not the stones that tear
It's the indifference
It is not the stones that breathe
It's the impatience

To leave a world that only
Listens to music
of Unconsciousness

But the tenants seized the servants and one of them they beat, another they killed, and third they stoned. Matthew 21:35

How violently the tenants acted
Besides beating
Stoning and killing his servants
They also killed the owner’s son

This parable prefigures the brutal death of Jesus
But long before being killed by a barbaric crucifixion
Jesus felt the effects of human violence and harsh rejection
He received a hostile threats

Sarcastic barbs
and verbal taunts from those who supposed Him
He experienced the unnerving outcome of people whose fear turned on Him
Chased Him out of town

And yet
Jesus did not respond with similar violence
He walk His talk
Not only preaching non violence

 but living it
When Peter sliced off a man’s ear in order to protect him
Jesus insisted the disciple put his sword away
Jesus then healed the man’s ear

I am reminded that too
must avoid revenge
 If follow Jesus
I will ease desiring harm to come to those who insist on being an enemy

Times End Age

After the stoned and stoning age
The iron axe head fell
Steam fizzled out
Electricity waved hello
TV leeched onto something in our psyche
Space seemed a chore
Nuclear scared us to our irradiated core
PC took over
AI looking over its morality shoulder
Now this age of unseen smiles
government counting death by percentages
sorry not to put at ease
maybe its the end of these

Looking in each other’s eyes
we’d have what I like to call,
completely competitive conversations.
Nether one of us conceding the point.
Back in the day,
this would go on until
one of us would pull out a joint.
Not exactly a peace offering.
But it was an excuse to call a truce.
Putting us in a relaxed the mood,
as both of us wanted to get screwed.
The wild animal in us needed to get lose.
So, we would put that good high to use.
That night, the music was just right,
and we didn’t always turn off the lights.
After three or four rounds of marathon love making.
Creative animal calls
and neighbors banging on the walls.
Nine months later,
my son was born,
as the result of two people having a good time.
We found shelter in the Radio show
called the Quiet Storm.
Now some may think
this a little bit tame.
And others will think
this just a little bit insane.
How our conversations
would end up with us
passionately calling each other’s name.

How Do I Love Missionaries

I
"Good morning. Jesus Loves You," I say
To passers by, with my calm shalom
I feel good, they feel good. But ought we?
Since Columbus sailed the Ocean blue ...
There's been a holocaust on the earth
The other one, against the environment
They can't stop it in the Amazon
So, why talk of the last Orangutans
In Indonesia, or Malaysia: old Batavia?
Yes, I am a pastor, and I love Jesus
(Which Jesus? you ask. That's the question)

II
After these post-Columbian centuries
India and China seem to have managed without Jesus
It irks me, that with so much clout, empires fail
To show the side of Jesus we see individually
The Samaritan woman at the well (John 4)
The blind beggar who never had eyes, until made for him
By Jesus outside the Temple (escaping stoning, yet healing)
Read it in John 9. Or the Love of the Father, Luke 15
The one Jesus revealed to us as "Abba." Why not these?
I heard Romans 3 (verse 23) and John 14: 6 aplenty
It sounded better in my private devotions
Shall I mention E. Stanley Jones, Christian ashram
(Not Christian Yoga). How to be a missionary
And tell them of Jesus. Just Jesus. Not the "civilized economy."

No greater injustice than this:

To condemn people to death, just for tender acts of love,

While

Rewarding others, for committing barbarous acts in war! *

All Ships Are Leaving

All ships are leaving and so is mine
We're close to each other
So something disappears and changes in between us
We're close to each other so we get used to ignoring ourselves
This time my absence is what is filling your lungs
All ships are leaving and so is mine

Your force was circling on the lake
As I was skipping rocks on the surface stoning one of us to death
I keep water in jars from that time for every time I feel suicidal
You told me I was gentle and I stretched this word in every direction
Standing underneath and now I'm sleeping in my raincoat
It's a degree of violence that is always present
It's a degree of presence that is always violent
You knock me to the ground to grow in power
And I still have no intention to participate
All ships are leaving and so is mine

I know who I am and they tell me it makes me know you better
It's a degree of presence that is always violent
It's a degree of violence that is always present
All ships are leaving and so is mine

The Travelling Man

Known before time.
One big story.
A studious thinker.
Shaped for purpose,
With a valid C.V.,
Government sealed.
A Banjamite Turk,
Sharpened for subjection.
Approved a stoning.
A religious enforcer,
Blinded for construction,
Knowing who let it.
Saved, feared, then trusted.
A verbally adept writer,
Commissioned to carry hope,
Called, to open eyes.
Strengthen through adversity,
Buffeted, barred, bitten.
Character modeller ,
Signposting others,
Sharing from his heart.
An example of us,
Who follow, one of many,
Each telling his story.
Each knowing on which Rock we stand.

Acts 9:15, 13:2-3, 23:11, 27:35, 47. 1Cor. 2:1.

Lagos

A mad woman with shattered
hair, bridled with great fulfilled
ego and pride among all women.
A troubled soul in the midst of
Pestful heterogenous mouths.

Hanging here and there are her
beauties spreading like an Eagle's
wings in a flight to perfection.
Up and down are template of
confused children lost in horror.

The street is strict and stressed
every walls occupied by hustlers
every street, a ghotto of bustlers
Lagos laughs large locomotively
yet, the street is stoning every commoner.

Sweat on the street closes many nose
Hurrying legs and hands write before the sun
Hopes fall like pack of cards
every eyes busy and troubled with its
own problems and circumstances.

Lagos,
a naked woman who needs no clothes
but jumps here and there like a teenager
on a new shoe parading the street to be seen
her breast milk is made for every mouth to suck.

This is Lagos our mother
soiled with floating slums and stalls crammed
full of all races and tribes.
Many have stolen her virginity yet,
She never suffer them to ruin.

Parched Memory From 1969

Pedaling along
     a rocky road,
     a dusty road,
     a hot and sunny road.
Pedaling past
     dry, rocky fields,
     dry, dusty fields,
     hot and sunny fields.
Surprised to see
     a lily flower,
     a lonely flower,
     a kid stoning it.
Pedaling back
The setting sun lay low across the field.
Boy, flower and memory are long gone.

At Moon Rising Pond

Here-

this day's last light clouds gray
to run-round and un-green in star-chaining

in pebble hush
and fish stoning

in leaf murmur
and trembling wing tuck

in cool frightful burrows
and tears that fall

in the unsuspecting night

Donald Trump

To say what you want Donald Trump
when the News thinks their stoning is just.
Makes me think there is freedom of speech.
That it's slim what you'll say and you must.

There's a day that all speech will be hate
if the News has it's say on the air.
For it's ratings decide on their take
as the viewers watch on and don't care.

Honest Abe will go on in his chair
as the mud will go slinging as far.
When our words will mean nothing but script
and his chair will be kicked out to mar.

Anger

Anger

Turning head looking around
wanted to establish sheer clever

Ambush peeped through the bush
Prey is arriving nearer nearer

Moment later shell of cough
Disturbed and pushed farther back

Wanted to stop velocity of sound
Slowly blow neck your cough

Long to hunt in proper time
Trigger the bullet of anger at

Difficult to assess the degree of irk
So needed to take the help of hide

Circumstances do not favor always
Think twice and forget anger.

Failure of target could change into fight
Hand to hand or fist to fist or stoning further

Revenge is bad and harmful friend
Read message and build friendship.
