Notes About The Poem

Notes

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.

“Edmund Burke”

Notes: Although he is attributed with this quote, there is no reference to where it was said or published, and some claim therefore it was in a speech. It might in fact be the combination of 2 statements, and just interesting to note, one must check facts as best as possible. Needless to say, the quote itself carries its own weight regardless.

Although this poem is not about a specific event, silence when we see evil is never good, I was amazing, how Israel is helping the wounded in Syria, and also found it ironic that, that the patients often had to have their faces disguised, not to face the stigma of being aided by a Jewish person. I found that sad that when any one who wishes to help in humanitarian deeds, could possibly be seen in such a bad light.

I might also add that Turkey is quietly playing a role helping the wounded in the Syrian conflict and it matters not country or religion, when aiding those in need, god bless you all!

Also beware the silent ones who feed you propaganda and lies, based on hate and not goodwill.

Silent Voices

Silent voices

Acid in eyes
Silence

Raped by suitor
Silence

Burned with kerosene
Silence

No books for women
Silence

Beating wives
Silence

No education for women
Silence

Woman must wear masks
Silence

Women must obey
Silence

Women used and abused
Silence

Honor Killings
Silence

Stoning women for a mans crime?
Silence

Murder for two hearts loving
Silence

A child screams as church bells ring
Silence

Barrel bombs fall like laughing monkeys
On children both small and tall
Silence

Israel treating the wounded of Arab crimes
Silence

I ask you?
Are you a silent one?

Women are at the mercy of Sharia laws and so much more and it is such an injustice for anyone. Your poem has a strong impact Arthur. Well written! 7 Mahalo, Connie

Too many of us are silent, that's the problem.

Very interesting read, well done Arthur. Always good to give a voice to the innocent that suffer, you accomplished that!

very solemn and serious context in the poem ... thought provoking ... the Burke quotation without the context is confusing ... It is very difficult to do nothing and be silent even if strategically ... following the 3000 years of civilization humanness has become somewhat innate too ... A very good poem ... Feel satisfied and enriched ...
