When winter winds have withered stubble,
Mother Mary maddens me,
whispering words of wonder:
what are we?
I find the farm a fraction futile,
loving life in Larame:
take the truck to Tucson, Tina
or Tracy, Tennessee.
Aardvarks are mere armadillos,
such as subtle souls can see:
pecans suck for plumping pillows:
chambermaids are chowder-free.
Santa Clara’s not a state,
a splurge is not a spree:
Grindr Graham isn’t straight:
Superior ain’t no sea.

When choosing clothes, some people buy
Whatever seems to catch their eye.
They always pay the asking price
No matter what, and don’t think twice.
That isn’t me, for without fail
I’ll check to find out what’s on sale
And if it’s pricey, I might splurge
If on that day, I get the urge.
As far as stores, the upscale shops
Will not be on my frequent stops,
But nor will be a tacky store,
With schlocky clothes you can’t ignore.
I guess I like the middle range
When I decide I need a change,
So when I feel it’s time to go,
I’ll check out clothing stores I know.

no child play involved
wipe your tears stand up tall
become STOIC; keeps you emotionally stable
walk with PRIDE; judge what don't compare
be EGOTISTICAL; don't care for anyone
think BUSINESS; profit off every thing
dress for SUCCESS; look valuable
keep a good STATUS; become desirable
have STYLE; expensive labels only
savoir your FINANCES; safeguard with vaults, gold, policies
lead with CONTROL; dominate no matter what
be SELFISH; crumb your wife, splurge with a mistress
have fantasy INDULGENCE; feed your appetite of pleasures
stay DECISIVE; wrong choice lose money
always PRIORITZE; money, pleasures, family
have dark DESIRES; harass and stalk who you can't have
be NON-MONOGAMUS; create a polyamorous way of living
Stay HAPPY; control, harm, and hinder

When I Google you,
I recognize the struggles and muggles you face,
I recognize the brutalities and the scars from decades of suppression and oppression which you endure;
The broken promises, failings and shortfalls;
I recognize the enormous work and journey ahead;
I see the repulse and self defeatist attitude occasioned
By broken hopes and aspirations;
I recognize the seasons and reasons for the youths failure to thrive,
In the face of monumental battles confronting them daily
When I Google you,
I recognize the unmistakable hurdles, scurdles, shuttles and scuttles;
The suppressed emotions, emissions, missions, visions, and vanquished voices of the voiceless,
The brazen helplessness, hopelessness and long worn faces
Of countless array of seen and unseen battles;
The dwarfed armoury of opportunities occasioned by lack of vision, mission, emotions to thrive, ride and drive
But,
I can also envision:
The salient, but countless unspeakable and unquenchable determination and desire in you;
The urge, surge, splurge, hidden treasures, pleasures, possibilities and the unheralded hope and abilities in humanity!

Though urges could empty a vault
Obsession to splurge cannot halt!
Surge spending can’t pause
Ending it might cause
Our mental gestalt to default

Wry puppet princess just cut her strings;
Why comply and then be held captive?
Damselfly on her free wrist whispers
‘Defy and let go of what’s submissive.’
Purge this Little Miss Marionette,
surge solo and secure the spotlight;
Splurge on a diamond encrusted crown,
emerge ready to claim your birthright.

With twenty dollars, what a chance,
To savor a treat or save for a plan.
You might splurge a little or take a stance,
On future dreams and where they began.
A small adventure or a cozy book,
Perhaps a meal with friends to share.
Or tuck it away with a hopeful look,
For future joys and plans to care.
So celebrate with joy and delight,
With twenty dollars, your day’s begun.
Happy birthday and may your flight
Be filled with dreams and moments won.

Money is always bouncing around.
When I was a kid, smaller toys seemed more in reach.
I never got a trampoline.
I don’t think my parents would let me anyway…
Until I turned 22,
And a large box showed up on the porch.
As an adult, a new car is out of reach.
But a mini trampoline?
Can be set up in my parents living room.
These days, I don’t care about being cool.
My trampoline is made for one.
These days, I come home in my rusty car.
To jump on my trampoline.
Money is always bouncing around.
Sometimes, we need to splurge.
Sometimes we need to jump.
I didn’t know how much I needed to.
Until I turned 22.

The Presidents Day urge to shop
Get to stores like on a bar hop
I'd visit them all
And splurge at the mall
But Amazon's my preferred stop

Dream leaf “fall” usher
motley hue cascade unfurls
dull gray sky gaunt sun
mud strewn pockmark on limp moss,
wet nabs ripe fruit orchard splurge
Moonlit gemstone reach
lunar auspice chill whisper
green hewn splintered twig
earthbound autumn wild pageant
scaly branches in a heap
Dark cobalt clouds float
city folk’s shivering gaze
market stalls thriving
the whiff of laden soup bowls
coffee dock ice drop buffer
Deep coal fire aglow
shelter from harsh weather gust
frozen nostrils twitch
as they plough the fertile patch
in league with season bounty

I bought a pair of yoga pants
Without the slightest urge
To practice yoga, but it wasn’t
Too much of a splurge.
Reminds me of some other clothes
Designed for active wear.
My ski coat’s never seen the slopes
And I don’t really care.
I walk around in running shoes
And in my baseball cap,
I’ve never hit a long ball
Into any outfield gap.
I even owned some cowboy boots
But never rode a horse
And my husband wouldn’t dare to wear
A “wife beater,” of course!

Sometimes I have this urge
The urge to cry aloud
I do not let it purge
I fight that big, black cloud
That tempestuous surge
Does totally enshroud
Till I am on the verge
Of being, by tears, cowed
I let myself submerge
In emotions that shroud
In time, I will emerge
Stronger than any crowd

The way we spend our money
Is as varied as it gets,
From those who sock it all away
To those who run up debts.
Though most of us are in between
And when it comes to buying,
Some people splurge on things that would
To me be mystifying.
Expensive meals or clothes or jewels
Defy my understanding,
Yet money spent on travel
I think keeps your mind expanding.
For those who purchase tickets
To see concerts, fairs and shows,
Each penny spent is worthy of
Where all that money goes.
Our spending habits often trace
To ways that we were raised
And frequently they’re so ingrained
To change them, we’d be crazed.
Yet most of us with extra cash
Have something on this earth
Which we’d give in and splurge on,
For whatever it is worth.
