In Honor of Milt

Backhanded Apology
Copyright © L MILTON HANKINS | Year Posted 2022

Sorry if I upset you,
I really didn’t mean it
Actually, I meant it
Until I saw it upset you,
Now I’m sorry you are
Upset by my words
But I got them said,
Which I intended to do.

L. Milton always impressed me with his sly humor amidst mostly very deep, spiritual thoughts. “Backhanded Apology” is one of his well-read pieces at 742 views. This apology is perfect for a very public person who is subject to personal remarks which could be double entendre at the outset. Milt was a fine person, likewise an excellent poet whose comments on my work were always positive and supportive. A Kentucky bluegrass native myself, I applaud his choice of retirement residency in Ashland; it is close to his roots in WV. We will all miss him at Poetry Soup.

through compassion stories
and nonviolent principles of secular health purpose
with sacred green wealth meaning.

Premium Member A Poet's Life

in a quiet place

secluded &
      alone
          comfortable
    with the silence

a pen
      is posed
              to write &
        to bleed words

all else
      is of no
               matter

the inspiration
is almost there

of nature
        & dreams
  & spiritual thoughts
perhaps of life's
     sorrows

then
     the pen
        pours out the words
   on white
 staining the paper

& the
      poet
         is weeping
   weeping

for the poet knows
        it is
    good ink that
               they have
      poured

Premium Member Hallelujah To Your Heart

In the light in my heart I can't believe you're there
the smile of your eyes do stare to my soul
In cased trap Beauty spiritually runs through your soul
Spell refunding truce of God resonates through you so
The breath of your life heart pumping
The worship in your mind is prime
Hallelujah to your heart
In the light of this heart I can't believe you're mine
As you smile a twinkle of your eye dark lights up so
Encased Beauty abundantly more
I love your spiritual thoughts
Hallelujah to your heart

You Rock

all my secrets and deep, deep truths
with the wrath of God, I heap on you
and like the trooper that you are,
reply with insight and spiritual thoughts

you listen quietly, talking me through
these fallacious ideas and my blues
building me up, never letting me down
leave me smiling, when we're done

you complement, never criticize
and in these matters, you are wise
what other friend would stick around?
you totally rock, I'm your biggest fan
