At the rise of the sun,
Her day had started.
Comforting kisses to her creation,
Progressing to the changing place.
Her lullabies like the ocean,
Bedtime stories are her meditation.
From bottles to sandwiches,
Covering cuts with band aids.
Always prepared for the field trips
Carrying all the weight on her back.
Best company for sleepovers,
Her love is far better than the others.
Mom of teen who knows what’s next
Having a successful youngster is her biggest thought.
Buying their first car is her promise,
But she's nervous to let go.
motherly tears drop at graduation
Best mom on earth.
All her nurturing was worth it in the future
She did her big one you've got to admit.

No burial
When I died, my family didn’t dare bury me in a grave.
They knew, without a doubt, I'd only misbehave ~
that I'd party with the germs,
and have sleepovers with the worms,
and give the bacteria all that they crave.
So, just a lousy cremation
When I watched them cremate my body,
I thought their work was just a little bit shoddy.
I woulda preferred
if the fire had been hotter by a third,
and if my friends had been invited over
to toast me with a hot toddy.

Oh, I want to go back
To when forever was possible
When I was still falling asleep on your couch
When our only fears were of monsters in the dark
When we would get so mad at our parents for not letting us have sleepovers
I miss you so much it physically hurts
But I would go through the pain
Over and over
I’d embrace the tears spilling like ink from my pen
If we could just be us again.

Let’s go back to that.
Telling stories,
teaching each other
how to play a guitar,
showing tricks
and playing games.
Sleepovers,
makeovers,
dancing and baking.
Building forts,
picking flowers.
Having power outages
and bringing out candles.
Using flashlights just for fun.
Let's go back to that.
To taking time.

Childhood memories--a magical land,
Building dreams amid castles of sand.
Sleepovers underneath starry skies,
Ghost stories, popsicles, blueberry pies!
We never paused to regard our delight;
Then we were gone-- grew up overnight.

I reminisce, I miss:
those days of yesteryear,
when life seemed so simple;
when as children we would
play outside from morn til dusk
riding bikes, hide and seek
playing softball in the street,
running, chasing, catching, laughing,
full of life.
I reminisce, I miss:
hanging out with friends,
sharing secrets, sharing dreams,
sleepovers where little sleep was had;
when the future was bright,
and the sky was the limit,
when life stretched on forever -
we were invincible!
But now time grows shorter,
and youth has lost its blush,
as the years turn golden.
So I remember the days of yesteryear
with fondness and longing.
But I embrace the gift of today.
I reminisce, I miss.

THE SHADOWS LEFT BEHIND.
Time is like a cloud that passes quickly overhead
but if we’re lucky we will find…
after she has passed…
the shadows she’s left behind…
And in these shadows that remain
that have not continued flying on the breeze…
is where our memories rest…
In moments such as these:
Moments when two grandchildren were young…
When their life was more innocent…and free…
When they played in our backward
Where they spent time up in our tree…
When they thought that I was magical…
When out of their ears I would pull money…
When they would laugh at all my jokes…
When they thought that I was funny.
Picnics, movies, sleepovers,
dinners where joy and laughter flowed with ease…
Life is made more beautiful
by moments such as these.
And as time’s passed over our grandchildren
how wonderful it is to find…
still floating in our memories…
the shadows she left behind.

heart strings yanked and knotted
bottles spun and lashes batted
unrequited warmth,
intertwined tendrils as palms brush.
our nervous sleepovers, we gossip about our feelings:
a confessional for joy
because what is safe but boys?
shut down from the start
confessions of feelings,
a pact made to not be broken
emotions unlimited,
confined to the safety of myself
actions only a thought
always reaching - never acting
long strides with flag in hand
fighting for the rights of others
not indulging in the necessity of my own

Swallowing snot and hawking luggies
Weekend sleepovers and late night movies
Riding bikes and popping wheelies
Telling jokes and acting silly
Throwing knives and taking dares
Living life without a care
Just two boys wild and clever
Running the mountain having the best day ever
Who knew their lives would change so fast
In the valley that day childhood would pass
We both changed that day and our lives grew apart
All because of something that we did not start
We were still friends because we cared
but the brotherhood we had we no longer shared
We had our travels some together but most apart
And now many years later and miles away I still live those days in my heart
The good times and bad, the fights and laughter
The years of life roll faster and faster
Our freindship lives on though tattered and torn
Since the fifth grade when it was born
You were my first best friend my only best friend
And you always will be until the end

Best Friends since 3
We laugh then we pee
We scream and we shout
We cry and we pout
sleepovers are fun...
But mostly a BLOWOUT!
We broke the law once,
But never again,
We are not related but we are family,
Best Friends forever
Best Friends

In the crib, surrounded by your whole family
You're the epicenter of love and attention
Your every twitch worthy of mention...
At school you've so many classmates
Your calendar crowded
With sleepovers and play-dates...
In college you'll live with some roommates
Some will be friendly
Others, surly ingrates...
Now it's time for marriage
With a partner for life
A loving husband or wife...
If children come, in the end
They will leave your warm nest
And give you one final test...
Will you still love the person you married?
Or will you have succumbed
To all of child-rearing's miscarries?

Reminiscing about the happy days
When I was innocent and so carefree
Endless hours passed as we would laugh and play
When my imagination was set free
Fast forward to when I was a young teen
Scary movie sleepovers so much fun
And skate nights to fill my summer routine
Deep in my heart, I wish for a re-run
Now older and with children of my own
They who are bringing me happy days now
And with my wife's love, I won't be alone
Happiness I could never disallow
And just like my favorite childhood toy
It's force fueling my life full of joy

When Angie was a little girl, so cute and very sweet,
She tried to talk with strangers and wander in the street.
She loved to play with dollies, teddy bears and kitties.
She’d put her clothes on backwards and would still look pretty.
Problems of this harried world were farthest from her mind.
Full of love and innocence, she always was so kind.
The years passed by so quickly. Angela went to school.
She learned the world, which can be great, also can be cruel.
She went from dancing lessons, fun sleepovers and zoos
to make-up, phone calls, shopping, and wearing size 9 shoes.
In sunny California, she learned to cherish friends.
Then back again to Utah, she had to start again.
She then came to the threshold of a bright new world.
When she became a woman, butterfly wings unfurled.
She’s leaned life’s little secret, what makes life worth living:
To honor God and family. She’s loving and so giving.
She listens to her conscience and tries to do what’s right.
My angel butterfly one day to heaven will take flight.

i was walking a path of loneliness
looking for someone to barge into my home, the doors were always left open, after all
i would walk into a room and felt like an outsider
like life was a party, one i didn’t want to be at
my thoughts left me alone and i was looking for something
maybe more of a someone than a something
someone who would know my feelings better than i did
and would see me as more than skin and bones
i would be more than just a pretty face
i would be an intricate mind and new songs to listen to
when this someone came into my life everything changed
she was early morning breakfasts and baking new recipes together
sleepovers with her made the sun rise early, because things weren’t so dark when she came into my life
she was someone to share my secrets with, someone who wouldn’t runaway from me when i wanted to runaway from myself
because i was the earth, losing my life, and she was mars, where life was found when there was no hope left for me.

Hope
By Asianae Aikey
I’ve learned so much
I taught so many things
My brain is still expanding
I'm still learning
I’ve missed so much growing up
The way I did
I missed being a kid
I missed all of the fun
I missed the girly things,
The sleepovers,
The fashion shows,
The gossiping
(though that’s not really fun or funny)
I don’t have many friends
Or people who love me for me
I have my family
And that’s all I need right now
One day I’ll find a boy who loves me for everything that I have to give
One day I’ll make my own family
I hope it’s big
I hope that all goes well
I hope that I achieve my goals
That I go far in my life
Hopefully it’s not to short of one either
Hope is all I have
Hope is what my life has become
Hope is what I’ve got
Hope
