Castles of Sand

Childhood memories--a magical land,
Building dreams amid castles of sand.
Sleepovers underneath starry skies,
Ghost stories, popsicles, blueberry pies!
We never paused to regard our delight;
Then we were gone-- grew up overnight.

Dear Paulette, Thank you so much. I think nostalgia really gets to all of us -- days gone so fast.

Thank you, Heidi. Childhoods were so carefree and innocent, never noticing life around the corner :)

A "Wonderful" story/write. I love this one. It is so very true. Yes, we "grew up overnight." Have a great day/weekend...............

We did, Paula. It seems like one day we were playing dolls and the next we were in caps and gowns and saying goodbye...I hope you have a lovely new year with lots of poems :)

I love them, too. And that seems to be where I dwell most of the time. Thanks for your wishes ~ I've decided Line likes emotional writes. I guess we really all do :)

Ann what wonderful memories you bring to mind when we couldn't wait for Christmas, birthdays were welcomed and most everyday was filled with new discoveries. Your poem is a joyful reminder of the ways children view the world. Best wishes for the contest. This reminds me of the old folk song "Turn Around." Blessings of joy to you!

Thanks so much, Sam, for comments and blessings :) I seem to do better writing about the past. It was filled with joy and gone too quickly. I hope you have a wonderful new year!

It does when events cause it. I guess I grew up somewhat at college. Maybe we grow up until finally we grow old. It all seems to have sped by. Aloha!

Wow, this says it all so well, Ann. Once we were young and full of zip...then, suddenly "we were gone ~ grew up overnight." It is often said someone "grew up too fast," and your poem certainly reflects this.

It does seem childhood was gone overnight. And then came often painful years of growing up :) I wouldn't like to grow up in today's world. I feel sorry for the young ones. Thanks for your comments, always liked :)
