Glenlivet

On this day her touch
Simply will not suffice
So Glenlivet tall
Poured over ice

Pure tan healing
After a day too long
Comfort revealing
From 86 strong

Serenade Me

Will you serenade me
  with your sweetest smile
Help me breeze through
  every workday turnstile

Will you dance with me too
  past all the startled looks
Of curmudgeons and drones
with their heads in their books

Work Smart Not Hard

Work
so hard
morning, noon
night before sleep
reward is so unsatisfactory.
Wake up in the morning ready for work
have my breakfast
plan my day
to do
list.
Now
ready
start workday
review my list
prioritize my work for the day; smart.

Sleep Late

No more getting up too early
   Brain half-fuzzy, bedroom whirly
Mood-a-combo: grumpy-surly
   Boarding workday's hurly-burly

Thanks to virus, I sleep late
Linger long in bed and wait
'Til the clock strikes half-past-eight
My new workday sure is great

Evening Bells Chime

Evening bells chime in the steeple
Merry villagers doff their workday masks
Like schoolchildren, not yet grown-up people
  Untethered from their joyless tasks

One's a druggist; another a clerk
All count the minutes 'til five
Matters not where they work
  The hour of freedom's arrived

Overwhelmed By Brutal Workday

lay clothes fall, hit the bedroom floor,
as do those indentured servants bound to my chest.
yawning tears puddle, blur optical lenses,
amble senselessly toward the cookies and chips.
denial as blinds open and close near tv set.
chills before wine sets in and cozy socks settle the argument.

Going To Work

Struggling to get out of bed,
The thought of work fills me with dread.
If only I didn't have to go,
But if I don't no more cash flow.

I walk in the door and head to the clock,
Slide my card and start the tick-tock.
Another workday has begun,
I'm hoping it's a good one.

2016
I wrote this shortly before retiring.

2:30 Am

i wake in the night to find its only
2:30 am
Four hours left to sleep thank god
I hear your sleepbreathing next to me
I ease out of bed for a walk around
and then back in
to your warmth
the scent of you
Four hours left to be here in the night with you
the exhausted agony
of the workday eased
by the prize at the end
bed with you

Day's Sealed

~ Day's sealed ~

The sun's made its turn
   Farmer's chores almost done
It's afternoon's downside
   Kick back, stretch and yawn

Afternoon heat shimmers
   over cornstalks and hay
Nearing the end
   of another workday

Gather up some stray eggs
Feed the cows one last meal
The shadows now long
   Come sunset ~ day's sealed

Sweet Serenade

Leaving home for work one day
  serenaded by a tuneful jay

Walking down a garden lane
once more came his sweet refrain

Glancing over my right shoulder
my friend was following, ever bolder

His song emblazoned on my mind
the blue jay crooned with voice so kind

That as I opened my workday door
I regretted that he sang no more

5 Am Purple

5 AM – bright neon buzz breaks my silent deep,
push the blue button and coffee appears
to chase ruddy Mars and red tails that hypnotize,
butter my slick way through the city
as greasy grey pillows choke the nose
until I arrive, reach the flashing violet eyes
that signals batteries charged, device ready
my workday begins and another purple sleep

Try To Make Ends Meet

I work in a factory 10 hours a day 7 days a week the money I make is not enough to pay
debts. But somehow someway it gets me through I live day by day sometimes I don’t see
how. So I put faith in Jesus he always makes a way when we don’t see one. I love him and
thank him always for being there and never letting me down. Thanks Jesus for everything.

Mind Map

Dreamy dish
Lavish list
Gainful gist
Workday wish

Query quest
Ask apt aid
Pleasure paid
Boom buzz best

Blossom bright
Write words well
Treasure tell
Reap rich right

Move mind map
Feelings frame
Beyond blame
Troubles tap

Sanguine style
Thinking takes
Mindful makes
Sensuous smiles

The Gardeners

I watch the gardeners at work
And as they rake and mow
I wonder, when their workday ends,
About where they all go.

I doubt if they have homes with lawns
As lush as those they tend
Or flower beds like ones to which
Their talents they do lend.

It's possible the only place
Their spirits may be buoyed
By what they do is at the sites
To which they've been employed.

Workday

While adults are bound by the obligation of work
The children get caught in the routine of school
All are engaged through the days of the work week
To earn a living or prepare for the work life ahead

After the weekend of rest, fun, and labour
The body is forced back into that same routine
Obeying the sequence of those who created the order
Made to ensure unchallenged control of humans

Liquid Buffet

Prize merry moods
Savvy and good

Cafes and bars
Welcome on par

Style mellows flair
In cocktail air

Sip on your drink
Here on the brink

A liquid fare
With buffet wares

Happy hours here
Sip booze that cheers

In fond free flow
Watch liquor show

Chew on tit-bits
Alcohol wit

Workday is done
Now for some fun

Before the Candles Burn

Another workday
at the community college
    I taste the
day as it unrolls
          Students, professors walking
around
   Equations on a board
    Dull day
Bu suddenly - a flash of poetry on the internet enlightens!
   Words are so powerful
If carefully wrought
  Life can kick on down
But poetry can lift one
    into new realms of thinking
     New dawns, new loves
Poetry - peace - energy - joy!

Perfect

Crickets chirping in a still night
cool breeze on a summers day
not a sarcastic word not a fight
spending a day in a loving way

Watching the birds play
singing their song
kill the memory of a workday
no need to be strong

A long night of good talks
secrets shared without worries
ending in midnight walks
all while telling stories

No worries
No pressures to detect
no sorry
that would be perfect

Come To Me

Come to me
    in silence
share with me
    your self
and I’ll give you
    my self.

Be with me
    during starry nights
when Mars and the Moon
    ride their chariots
    across the Heavens
while we ride each other
    from dusk to dawn.

Think of me
    when we’re separated
by this 9 to 5 workday world
    knowing that
I think of you
    constantly and consistently
each day, each hour, each minute.

Correctional Officers Prayer

We Go Inside The Fence For Every Shift,
We Pray It’s Safe, Peaceful And Swift.

We Put Up With Inmates, Convicts,
Administration & The Rest.
We Pray Each Day To Do Our Best.

We Have A Thin Line That We Must Walk,
With Courage From God, We Shall Not Balk.

Each Day We Put Ourselves In Harm’s Way,
So Our Family & All Have A Safer Day.

This We Do, To Better The World You See,
For We’re The Officers Of The D. O. C.

At the End of the Road, At the End of the Day

After Angella Voras-Hills

fallen green apples here and there
at a dead end, the yard is
where in the story lies an
ending, the life I lead an illusion
a collage along the road of
broken houses bathed in light
a quiet moment, a lament when
the day bleeds into colors
and all my realities and dreams connect

There is an illusion of light when the colors connect.
from an Angela Voras-Hills poem.

Such and Such--N7 Oulipo

The lack of a single-word inflammable
in our lanterns is what is killing me

this morpheme
                         A single workday for all
Inflammables is what God is doing tonight

This is just one of many adages
to have passed through the garments

Previously on this shriek they put
a peartree back together wrong

after its demise
                              Something
there was in the syphon

Poor tree could feel it in his bonsai

Tapping Fingers

On the job he sits at his desk all day
The boss is gone? He flew the coop!
Tapping fingers ‘til the day is done
He'd better watch out, it'll soon be gone

We work all week, plus some over- time
At the beauty shop, his wife in style
Tapping fingers ‘til the day is done
He'd better watch out, it will soon be gone

One of these days, I’ll run this show
I will be rich! Pockets full of rolls
Tapping fingers ‘til the day is done
He'd better watch out, it'll soon be gone

A Banker Deals In Dreams

Skipping 'cross the village square
Smiling like the noonday sun
Maidens gather everywhere
Errands finished, workday done

Dresses billow in the breeze
Laughing eyes, flirtatious smiles
Skirts uplifted past their knees
Practicing their female wiles

Woke up with a grunt and moan
Glad was I the sun still shone
Got back on the cursed phone
Banker's business: contracts, loans

Timepiece now won't move at all
Maidens gone ~ my tears, they fall
