Hum of the woodstove,
my cat curls in her basket.
Winter sleeps outside....

Warmth
in the pouring rain
smoke bellows from the woodstove
warmth greeting the cold

Warmth
Time for inside warmth
Colder air has now arrived
I’m making a woodstove fire
It doesn’t take long
The relaxing flames to watch
Bringing comfort in its way
There will be many
In the winter days to come
A cozy home it will be

Chasing Rainbows
Chasing rainbows, where will the next one be,?
A suncatcher spreads them in my house for me to see.
They can be found anywhere; floor, wall, ceiling, even woodstove too!
Delightful surprises are shining everywhere.
All of them shining from gifts made with care!

Creative Storm
The snow piles up again today
Warm oatmeal cookies smell nice inside
As senses bring delight my way
The snow piles up again, today
Working and creating things along the way
Like another busy winter ride
The snow piles up again today
Here near the woodstove, I will hide

Display
A mix of snow and sleet arrives today
Sticking and freezing in a cold display
Of white all around and skies are gray
A slippery time to drive or to play
Inside near the woodstove, I want to stay
I forgot the cocoa, so coffee has a way
Of sending the cold feelings away!

The Sun Is Mine
Another gray day comes our way
- I need the sunshine -
I wish it was mine (lol)
I could just put it in the sky
- Whenever I want -
The air is cold for June
A first time for woodstove fires,
For this time of year -
But, I will pretend the sun is mine
- And make this day shine -

Scenery To Cope
The flames in the woodstove dance
Bringing warmth to a cold, rainy day
Mountain weather is up and down this May
Flowers are blooming in sunny days of chance
To show off their colors and bring hope
Smiles, freedom and laughter in sight
Birds all around are taking flight
Nature brings relief and scenery to cope

Encircling Light
Winter wind returns
Once again, the cold air churns
Inside the woodstove fire burns
Winter can be long
Holding onto a bird’s song,
Helps stay uplifting and strong
Ice lays where tears wept
From icicles, cold has kept
Hanging through the night I slept
Morning is now bright
Sun enhancing all the white
Encircling me with light

Fire
The thick, oppressive smoke blacked out the fall sun...
The smell of my great grandmother's old woodstove
suddenly came to mind...
Flames licked the night sky from the mountainside...
And to my horror, I resigned...
After the fire has devoured all the old trees, and has flickered out of sight...
The barren, ashy face of the hillside will greet me each day and every night......

December Dreams
December dreams wake the soul and mind
Rosy cheeks and snow covered hills
Songs, laughter and bells ring
The lights and gatherings bring thrills
Cozy celebrations have special food
Love ignites like the woodstove fire
Kisses melt under the mistletoe
Where December dreams inspire

Heat,,,, Winter ,, Maine
.............. Heat
pine maple and old oak
sticks for the woodstove
the flame is my life
GINSU-KNIFE EASTPORT , MAINE USA
I like living in the forest.
The firewood seems to be lieing on side the road for me.
Free heat , OK Water from the spring for coffee and tea
is hard to beat.
Pine scented air clears the head.
Seaweed washes up on shore for the gardens....

Snowed In
As I’m snowed in cooking on the woodstove,
I’m doing the dishes, watching through my window
Heavy snow falling and swirling all around
It is mesmerizing to watch, calming in sight
Even as it piles up, there is comfort all around
The beauty is as far as I can see
A woodpecker visits the seed outside the window
Thoughts sift from my mind, like the snowflakes in the air
It is pristine, white, blanketed, everywhere!

Warmth
Sitting in front of the woodstove fire
In the warmth that does inspire
Thoughts like flames, comfort to be
Kept safe from the cold that I flee
Not the beauty of the snow outside
Only cruelty that makes me hide
Long enough to find my inner voice
To speak for those without a choice
Winter falls on many with pain
As icicles drip teardrops like rain
It is the warmth everyone longs for
The stability which allows us to soar

Without a Trace
The new fallen snow is melting, dripping all about.
The ups and downs of the weather upon us, no doubt.
The fog here has mostly lifted from trees and mountainside.
Only darkness now where all the animals do hide.
The neighbor’s colorful Christmas lights are so bright.
Nice to see them shining through this wet, soggy, night.
The woodstove brings comforting warmth, in this cozy place.
Settled quietly in my home as problems leave without a trace.

A Hardscrabble Life
Granny, hunched over the woodstove –
I smell fatback frying in cast iron,
Scents of morning in the Blue Ridge Mountains
Along with hazy mists hanging across them,
Parting for the sunlight as it makes its way up
Over the hills that surround every heart
Living out life on hardscrabble roads of old times.

Thanksgiving Blessings
I am grateful for my home on the hill in the mountains
Where I can see the beauty of this creation far and wide
Sunrises and sunsets, with wildlife all around
Peace and quiet surrounds me in this special place
A roof over my head and warmth from a woodstove
There is so much comfort and so very much to see
I thank God for leading me here, as it took a long while
But, I cannot ask for more in my place to live
And every memory each day it gives. I am blessed.

Place To Hide
Last leaves cling to branches
Wind blows across the hill
The sky has chosen to be gray
Land is white, with a chill
The woodstove brings the warmth
As music plays inside
It’s another world to be
A comforting place to hide
Just as things in life,
This will pass enough to see
There will always be a brighter place
Beyond the storm, to see
For now, it’s a hiding place
Tomorrow, it may be a ride
Reborn from thoughts renewed
From no better place to hide
