Alone, weeps in the night.
             Whippoorwill, goes to her side.
             Comfort, in moonlight.

The Death of August Derleth: July 4, 1971
The summer air hangs still.
Hawk and whippoorwill
Wing mournful down the graying skies…
Hearken to their cries!

And then the faintest breeze
Murmurs in the trees…
And at the Lonesome Place
Spirits sigh in space....

Proposal Dominique
Yo,
oblique
Dominique,
doublespeak dove,
with geek’s technique, you squeaked whispers of love.

Wise advice from well-seasoned whippoorwill.
Fulfill your thrill,
a trained trill
can still
angst.

Whippoorwill jumping jack
Putting daisies pretty
A lonesome road
A one-eyed toad
Painting butterfly city.

Bright moonbeam sorely gone.
Upside down me.

whippoorwill
trills a
song

larks
in trees
sing along

croaking frogs
join the
throng

then
crickets
chirp with ease

symphony
on the
breeze

Summer's Interlude: Sg
Summer's breeze ruffles my hair
while pale moonlight glows
and waves kiss the sandy shore
as the calm tide flows.
A Whippoorwill fills
the night with rhythmical songs
in sweet throaty trills.

Premium Member Breathless She Whispered
Breathless she whispered her promise
   over the ocean's whippoorwill wave
Eager for word did he hearken
   suppressed beneath work-a-day's grave

Closer she drew to strained earlobes
   alluring, affection's tone's shape
Ecstatic their impassioned revelry
   in dawn's light arm-in-arm draped...

The Death of August Derleth (2) (1909-1971)
Wisconsin winds are chill:
Hawk and whippoorwill
Are mourning in the skies
When their poet dies.

And at the Lonesome Place
Spirits fill the space
With whispers on the breeze
Billowing the trees.

Wisconsin winds will blow
Summers into snow,
But winds of Fame will sing
Evening in Spring....

Premium Member Soothing Song
The Whippoorwill sings every night
it begins as soon as it's dark
Soothing, comforting, helping me sleep tight

The Whipoorwill sings every night
I listen and turn off the light
Instead, the stars shine and spark

The Whippoorwill sings every night
it begins as soon as it's dark

The Bark of the Birch
The bark of the birch - it’s curled for peeling
as the whippoorwill commands the block.
I fill my lungs with the pine-riddled air,
discounting the call of the clock.
A trickle of water escapes the hose,
a new pepper has sprouted - no, a pair!
Pleased with the snips of roses I chose,
apart from a vase, I haven’t a care....

Sound Asleep Did Bury Deep
he is sound asleep
did bury my dead cat (Henry) deep
then will cry and weep

no more reliance
life is full of avoidance
contains defiance

each night seems so still
when we did hear whippoorwill
on our windowsill

God always hinted
wait until He consented
then to church sprinted

we gave God a test
kill sinners who are a pest
help bird build her nest...

The whippoorwill sings softly to me
From darkness of night, the bird I can’t see
Singing goodnight daily, from trees to sky
It has clearly made its home nearby

Peacefully it calls to me and rests my heart
I close my eyes to its song, until we part
The restful melody concludes my day
So, perfectly as I listen, I’ve nothing more to say

Insist Long List of Rascist
what they did insist
must add them to a longlist
those they call racist's

would not let him in
lonely little men had been
from knee came some skin

a nomenclature
does exist in all nature
pretty when mature

had heard sound of train
had looked through my window pane
saw small deer in rain

would hear whippoorwill
which was always such a thrill
nighty had a slight chill...

A Child and a Whippoorwill
"Twas the evening hour,
and the world was still.
All but a child
and a whippoorwill...

But I chanced to hear
as twilight smiled,
The song of a mother
to her child.

Tranquil and warm,
Sweet and deep,
Rocking, rocking
the child to sleep.

Singing , singing
of stars above,
Singing, singing
of love.

"Twas the dawning hour,
and the world was still.
All but a child,
and a whippoorwill......
